Eric was a "real one" too, but we never saw him again after 8:46 am. Except his hand, but his mom prefers we don't go into detail about it. She had it cremated, made into a necklace & wears it on her person every day. She's all right with us saying that part. She told it in an interview.
Dear Gail, my husband and I watched what happened in New York from our home in Perth Australia. It was around 10pm our time and we could not sleep all night. I cannot even begin to imagine what you went through. Your story really touched my heart! We are bird lovers also, so to hear you saved all the precious birds made me so happy. Your goodness is so apparent and I hope you are living a happy life xx
It was refreshing to hear stories from neighbors who lived through 9/11 as well as survivors from the towers and their families. It is wise to keep this history alive. Thank you.
Im in awe at this story but the fact that you could live in lower Manhattan in the financial district as a PET sitter and birds at that is INCREDIBLE. it's why i love NYC what a city. Lol I'm glad you saved the birds. I love birds!
Thanks for sharing your story. So many unique stories from that day. This is heartbreaking like the rest of them, but I'm glad you were able to make it to safety (and save all those birds). Your friend who evacuated the high schoolers is the definition of courage.
God Bless You For Everything But Absolutely For Making Sure You took care of those Birds! .... while such a Benign fact but you are one of the gems in the world that thought about those birds.... I Hope The Rest of Your Days are filled with lots of Peace and comfort with lots of love from the Animal Kingdom as Well

Awww what a sweet woman to not only worry about herself but the pets. She is a real one.

Gail, thank you for telling your story! As a parrot parent I’m particularly grateful you saved the birds! All the best to you!
I am a Brooklyn resident and will certainly go to panel n53 this week to humbly honor the memory of Wendy Rosario Wakeford in what small way I can.

Same. Never imagined that someone would see the towers begin to collapse from their own apartment.

What a sweet and brave woman. We in Greece use to wish " be well". Meaning stay strong and healthy.
Wow! I always wonder about the people who lived in the neighbourhood - this was very insightful. Thank you
Your story is sadly and joyfully beautiful. You're as lovely and as gracious as ever.

I remember when the cell phone bills were that high. This lady had a $600.00 cell phone bill. In 2001, 2002, I had a flip phone. My bill was high.
God bless you ❤️
I want her for my pets! She is lovely!!
GOD BLESS YOU LOVEY
Yes cellphones used to be stupid expensive. My stepdad had a bag phone for his work. Over $300 a month. For 1 phone.. 👀
She saw the phone bill and said alright I’m a victim lol
