A mixtape traditionally is a self-produced or independently released project that an artist gives out for publicity or to avoid copyright infringement.
Because of streaming, however, all the lines between these three are blurred and they are basically just marketing terms at this point. EPs and mixtapes nowadays basically refer to smaller or less commercial projects from artists whereas an LP is a more significant work. Many artists use LP to show that their album is conceptual or focused whereas they use EP or mixtape to release batches of unconnected songs.
