  • After missing all 3 rollouts in cities all around the Bay Area in the last few months I finally had the opportunity to film one. This was the first day of rollout/cart takeback and what really made it weird is it was on a Saturday (due to collection being pushed forward a day in a result of Thanksgiving). The city's contract with Republic Services finally went up after years and judging by the old BFI carts I think it's safe to say someone outlasted their welcome and it was time for a new contract agreement. Most residents use their own 32gal. container to A) save money not having to rent a bin from Republic B) If you did rent a bin Republic only offered 60 and 90's for customers. That brings up my first problem I saw a decent amount of FULL 90 trash carts. Now the biggest trash cart you can get is 67 gallons and if you have extra trash you'll have to pay for extra bags. Now it's not that bad tho as food scraps are being diverted so hopefully people will use that to their advantage and landfill less.
    Sadly every time I tried to find the recycling cart crew they would not be in the neighborhood (probably loading more carts at the prep site) anyway the recycling carts are just 90 split IPL’s. That's also one of my concerns. Every since 2006(ish) when AW rolled out single stream cart residents didn't have to bother with separating fiber products from metal, plastic, glass, etc. So I think it will definitely be a learning curve for the residents.
    Now that ends my rant (for the single family housing side). Also I only managed one clip of the cart rollback crew but at the same time the hood’ they were in didn't have to many cool old carts so I don't think it would be to interesting. Go check out California Refuse Trucks perspective when every he uploads it. Oh yeah I filmed this with him……..

    Sad to see all of those classic unique carts replaced with these new boring generic looking carts. Crew seemed chill though

    Nice work, was curious what was going on up there at the moment. After seeing those few clips of the Curotto, definitely wish someone had gotten Milpitas footage while Republic was collecting. Seems like some of their trucks had decent speed and with the older carts, would have been cool, at least in my opinion. Thanks for going to catch this

      Yep. BFI, AW, or Republic no difference really definitely made there money off of them. $3.16 a month (for renting it) x12= $37.92 a year and the expected life of a cart is 10 years so 37.92x10=$379.20 (rate is from a few years back so might not be 100% true)

    I wish that you could do a ride along with garbage truck that picks up recycling cans and you mounted your go pro in the the truck.

    My question is why have a split can for trash and organics when they have a separate yard debris can

    • @NorCalwastetrucks
      @NorCalwastetrucks  6 років тому +3

      Organics is a mix of food waste and yard debris. That mix could be turned into amazing and “rich” compost. Now keeping food waste serpent it could be sent to an anaerobic digester and turned into biogas and that could power the collection truck or could be burned to create energy for homes.
