Am originally from the great Benin kingdom. The great Benin kingdom is in the southern part of Nigeria and is the first part of Africa the Europeans (Portuguese) first visited in 1472 and its different from Benin republic which has a border with Nigeria.
Actually the first place the Portuguese visited in Africa was Sierra leone then the El Mina in the Gold Coast, in 1471 by Don Diego de Azambuja. They built the oldest European building in Sub Sahara was built in the Gold Coast starting from 1482 to till its completion in 1486.
Oba Ewuare of Benin was a king of the ancient Benin kingdom in present day Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
