The only one I remember is Joe Dube. I saw him on the cover of a Sports Illustrated magazine. It was titled "Belly up to the bar boys" I was 11 years old. That picture and the story inside sparked my interest in weight lifting.

John Davis is an absolute legend. 1938 world champ at age 17. 2X Olympic Champion a bunch of Worlds and undefeated for more than a decade. He was Ilya Illyin more than 60 years before Ilya. He had a reasonable chance of 4X Olympic Gold because 2 Games were cancelled due to WW2 during that long unbeaten streak. He was also a trail blazer being a Black man on US international team 9 years before Jackie Robinson broke color barrier in MLB.

I had the good fortune to train with Cameron a couple of times as kid lifter in the late seventies. He had already competed a couple of times at worlds and moved on to York Pa. But came back to lift at Central Falls club where he started. Nice guy treated everyone the same even me just mediocre regional lifter. Got a bronze medal in cl&jk 1977 worlds.
