You're not "monetizing your backyard" you're getting a second job as a landlord. This isn't a stock or bond you can just buy and sell whenever you want, you now have a tenant with rights on your property, with a special legal process you must go thru if you want to get rid of them. This is a new business you've entered. You really should look into landlord-tenant laws in your jurisdiction before you decide to do this (I am an attorney).
What is your point then? Rent is also passive income, probably less risky than investing in stock market. Having say that, it adds the value to the property and could be use to house the teen kids when the house is become less and less affordable. So it does more than moneitizing

This was illegally done by rogue landlords in many homes' backyards in the UK, resulting in many incidents of dozens of people cramped in slum conditions in the tiny flat/garage in the backyard! It will create Victorian era slums and other neighbours will suffer from people living unnecessarily close to them.
So what is your solution??? Don't build this homes and let people sleep on streets??? Unless you have a solution to the problem don't bother commenting unnecessary threats.
You actually still can. It will be the base price, but you can do the pretty-ing it up yourself to save costs. I know because I am building one right now for an elderly relative
What’s amazing is Mc Donald Jones can build you a 3 bedroom House for only $ 298K (Porto Home) , so in reality, no one should be charging more than $150K for a 2 bedroom granny flat, if it is a cookie cutter home…
He should have built 3x 2 bedroom townhouses down one side of the property, because it would be more lucrative, than instead of building one, two-storey Mc Mansion, and a paupers granny flat behind it.
