  • Patients need access to information to make decisions; physicians need accurate information to advise patients. Most pharmaceutical information is funded by industry, often misleading and incomplete. In this powerful talk, Lydia answers this critical question: how do we address misinformation designed to make profits at the expense of patients?
Lydia is a pharmacist and former pharmaceutical advertising copywriter who seeks to reduce the influence of pharmaceutical marketing and misinformation on American healthcare. She is also the founder of RxBalance, a nonprofit organization that addresses areas of medical misinformation in order to reduce medication costs, improve outcomes, and promote safer prescribing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Basically my problem with pharmaceuticals and their companies is that they’re as wealthy as a government there living within our borders and there’s no oversight. And there’s also nothing in the law that says companies have to do something ethical for the betterment of America the only thing in the law that stated is that they have to legally increase shareholder profit do you understand how badly that can turn out. Oh yeah and like this lady‘s saying you shouldn’t be able to market the medication you should go to a doctors office and they can prescribe what you need because of your symptoms. Marketing is another word for coercion or manipulation. It’s trying to convince you with marketing to buy some thing do you otherwise would never need. The thing I love most about America if we still have it is that ideas aren’t illegal yet. And we can still voice our opinions and discuss things maturely because gentlemen discuss and fools argue. If you have an opinion is different than me I would love to speak to you about it and contest your viewpoint

The medication which is mentioned at 7:15 is still objectively better then the previous drug since it extends life by 30 days. To call the client "cold and calculated" for wanting his drug to be approved is highly misleading.
