- Rishi Sunak gave a gracious first speech to parliament as the leader of the opposition in the House of Commons on Tuesday (9 July).
Mr Sunak started his speech by congratulating Sir Keir Starmer on his general election victory.

When he took the reins we were struggling, his efforts have shown genuine progress and this is why he felt it possible to call an election. But as always people hear what they want to hear, see only what they want to see.

I have always respected Rishi Sunak, he’s a statesman to the end.
He spoke well to his credit, looks like a weight has been lifted.
He had to carry the weight of past administrations mismanagement as well unfortunately but in his 20 months I think he did reasonably good job in bringing stability given where we were tbh

Probably a combination of relief and disappointment. Knowing that it's over, but able to go back to his good life. This was extremely well done and respectful. I'd like to see more aspects like that across the entire parliament
Because he’s a few hundred million more richer since being PM. In one financial year he made 120 million, whilst millions of families made financially worse off. He’s happy because he just has to accept being leader for a few months more until he can board a private jet back to California and lavish lifestyle.

I’ve always liked Rishi. He’s a family man and mostly respectful. Shame about the D-day disrespect though. I appreciate his humbleness and wish him well. I always got the feeling he wanted to achieve his pledges but he had his hands tied behind his back and it stopped him from achieving it.
