Still such a charismatic race car, it’s a world away from its origins as my favourite fabrication series on UA-cam. A testament to your brilliance and energy! Congratulations.
My first track day on a bike a Kawasaki zx636r, was brands hatch Indy in 2007 left pit lane with 10 to 15 bikes instructor in front went over and down paddock hill bend at no more 40 mph. Up and round into cooper straight and the instructor basically fucks off so we all speed up down the main straight and then realise that I have to brake and go around and down paddock hill bend that was terrifying I went to the inside of the corner and the guy on a fire blade next to me went straight into the gravel trap 1 minute and 10 seconds later I did it all over again. And so on for 20 minutes and for another 2 sessions one of the best days of my life. Great car you have and a great channel!!
I love watching these circuit builds, you built this car in your shed and thrash it for hours. Drag racing channels are cool too and it's amazing how quick they are but those cars only have to stay together for a couple of seconds.
Excellent Matt! 👍 Reminds me of the time i did a kart course there.... 250cc 4stroke karts, 20 laps... Paddock Hill bend was where i overtook everyone...😁Flat out, no braking and totally blind because you're so low in a kart! 🤪 sideways out of Druids, hilarious fun...👍👍👍😁
So great to see how many sponsors have backed the pea! Such a long way since the cow shed, the left/right depression and wondering if you could make your UA-cam channel work!
@@Urchfab I remember trying to convince you to look at it as fifty percent completed rather than having to start over! I’m glad you didn’t throw in the towel, though - I felt you were close at one point, but you manned-up and fixed it (to quote your #1 backer!).
The car seems to work quite well. And you have driven it quite well. Smooth and contolled. There is a second to be found but that is laps. Try and keep off those kerbs, it unsettles the car a bit.
not enough body roll. When the car doesn't have aero, the suspension needs to be tuned for mechanical grip to be able to corner faster and prevent snappy steering changes. This consists of softer spring rates/preloads, softer sway bar and wheel alignment to match with the chassis position and weight transfer. When you get the cornering speeds up, Pea has a solid 54 in it. Softer suspension sharpens with lighter unsprung parts.
You sure have produced a neat little racing car that handles well with adequate performance. The transformation with the logos makes it look the part too! only one logo missing -- your own URCHFAB one! great job! Great to see the channel is doing well!
"Velly Niiiice" Superb job chap - excellent stuff as always! Brilliant to see you get sponsorships - the car looks spot on. As someone who was raised while their parents raced - it was good to see the family enjoyed the event too 👍 Off to Brands myself next Sunday for the touring cars.
Paddock Hill is an awesome corner 👍 proper intimidating. Off camber hidden apex steep hill. You want to aim for the apex just out of sight then sort of let it wash out a little mid-corner over to the rumble strip. Don't try to fight it or you'll end up spinning into the gravel like I did the first time! 😂
Much though I don't think you particularly need advice from a rando on the internet when you've got third on the day, it looks like you're turning in a little early on Surtees (though it's hard to tell) which means you're still turning coming into McLaren. You sort of want to tip it into Surtees and then straight line it past the apex of McLaren to late-apex Clearways. You can sort of see the Civic doing it when it first passes you before the red flag. That gives you a good drive through Clarke and onto the main straight. People concentrate on Paddock Hill because it's scary, but the section that makes or breaks a fast lap is the complex on the right of the track, which is trickier than it looks.
Car is looking spot on now Matt with the race graphics. I had a near miss/rub with the tyre wall many years ago 1989 before they fully gravel paddock hill bend with an race instructor showing me the track in a Ford Escort XR3 going to quick on that corner he said hold on to the selt belts... In the end had a great day racing around in the XR3 then I think it was the formula first/Ford.
That little bugger just came out so damn nice, man. I mean, you dragged it out of a field as a rusty sack of steaming crap, and even the Miata was a rusty sack of steaming crap. But it came out the other end as this! Just spectacular.
Looking the goods now. I was surprised with choice of light charcoal for centre stripes.. but.. once the first half was on the bonnet, yeah man, that works so well with the body colour. Awesome result too, well done.
Was a great day Matt, you did mega. Paddock Hill at Brands is extremely daunting, gives me the shivers even today. Car has some mega Pace! Snet in 3 weeks?
Good stuff mate, it’s a good little track isn’t it but so easy to loose time on. I brake after the end of the black pit exit wall and turn in at the end of that little track exit on the left, well that’s where I feel most comfortable, I’ll need to go quicker threw the corner it’s self next year as my 53’s need to come down
Superb video Matt, Brands Hatch is local to me, what’s always surprised me is how narrow the track appears on the approach to Paddock Hill Bend, although I’ve never driven around it. You must be well pleased with your 3rd place!! The mongrel flys, no wonder people keep asking “what the hell it is” 😂😊
From ferrous oxide to nitrous oxide! I'd suggest this car would cost around $850,000 if you had to pay a craftsmen as talented as Urch Fab to re create it. Puts a whole new spin on the term, "built not bought" The man is the Fabrication Stig.
World famous track running very "very" close time to the fastest on the day. A challenging event handled as best you could on the day. Maybe room to improve ? But i cant see it from the couch. Car looks pretty cool in the fresh livery. Thanks for sharing Matt. The Honda was going pretty well in the closing moments, left me thinking , can you stay with him? 😅 looked like you were.
I'm no racer matt but you did really well for a first time on track competitively..... It comes across in the video as though the car could pull a taller diff.. what ratio I'd currently in it??
I just can't think of a better video !!! Wish I could have dropped by the cow shed in days gone by and told you "that car will be on the track some day competing well and affirming all your skills" 👍 You probably would have chased the big blubbering yank away with a spanner HAHAHAHAHA
At the start of the day did it feel like you were still driving as a naturally aspirated engine in lower gears and max revs, and later using the turbo torque in a higher gear round the corners or was it just you were getting quicker?
Car looks good out on track! Did come to say hi but everytime I walk past you was somewhere else lol. Good time for your first time at brands, will you be at snett for last round of TA?
Why do shipping and tax suck so bad? $82 for a t-shirt. I'd be happy enough if Matt got $60 and the rest was cost, but when he gets like $20 and the rest goes to some big business I'm not interested.

Great times, Matt. Also, you never put it in the gravel on Paddock Hill, and you never went on Mr Palmer's grass. Impressive.
My 1958 Anglia was grey, XOF 257; my first car in 1970. What is with the 5 speed box!?
