A New Dawn for Nepal
Following the successful democratic movement of 1990 (2062/63 BS), Nepal underwent significant changes, including the national anthem. The previous anthem, linked to the monarchy, was replaced with one reflecting the nation's new identity.
A Nationwide Search for Unity
Under Girija Prasad Koirala's leadership, the government encouraged a nationwide search for a new anthem. A 14-member committee evaluated entries from artists across the country.
"Sayaun Thunga Phulka": A Song of Unity
The chosen anthem, "Sayaun Thunga Phulka," beautifully captures Nepal's spirit. The lyrics, penned by Byakul Maila, celebrate Nepal's diversity - "a garland woven from hundreds of flowers." The music, composed by Amber Gurung, is both stirring and serene.
Officially Recognized: A Unifying Symbol
More than 20 renowned singers have lent their voices to this anthem. Adopted by the Interim Parliament in 2007, it was officially recognized by the 2015 Constitution of Nepal (2072 BS).

सयौँ थुङ्गा फूलका हामी, नेपालको राष्ट्रिय गान हो। यसलाई २०६४ साल साउन १८ गते लागू गरिएको थियो। यसलाई अन्तरिम संसदका सभामुख सुवासचन्द्र नेम्वाङ सिंहदरबार भित्र रहेको राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोगको सम्मेलन भवनमा आयोजित समारोहको बीच २०६४ साउन १८ मा औपचारिक रूपमा राष्ट्रिय गानको रूपमा लिइएको घोषणा गरेका थिए। तत्कालीन शाही परिवारलाई समर्पित भई गाइएको राष्ट्रिय गान (राज गान) श्रीमान् गम्भिर नेपालीलाई वि.सं. २०६३ साल जेष्ठ ५ गते शुक्रबार बसेको तत्कालीन प्रतिनिधि सभा घोषणाले नयाँ राष्ट्रिय गानको साथ प्रतिस्थापन गरेको थियो।
अम्बर गुरुङले सङ्गीत दिएको र ब्याकुल माइलाको शब्द सिर्जना रहेको राष्ट्रिय गान "सयौँ थुङ्गा फुलका हामी" शीर्षकको राष्ट्रिय गानलाई नेपालको संविधान २०७२ ले पनि आधिकारिक मान्यता दिइसकेको छ।
६२/६३ को जनआन्दोलन सफल भए पश्चात्, गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाको नेतृत्वमा बनेको सरकारले नेपालमा आएको राजनैतिक परिवर्तनहरूसँगै चलिआएका पुरानाशैलीहरूलाई पनि परिवर्तन गर्ने निर्णय गरेको थियो जहाँ राष्ट्रिय गानका कुरा समेत समावेश गरिएको थियो। सरकारले देशभरि रहेका कलाकारहरूलाई राष्ट्रिय गान लेख्नका लागि प्रेरित गरेको थियो र नयाँ राष्ट्रिय गान छनोट समिति पनि गठन गरेको थियो जसमा चौध सदस्यीय टोली रहेका थिए।सयौं थुङ्गा फूलका हामी बोलको गीतलाई सर्बोत्कृष्ट मानेर १४ सदस्यीय राष्ट्रिय गान छनोट कार्यदलले १,२९२ रचनाहरू मध्यबाट नेपालको राष्ट्रगानको रूपमा छनोट गरेको थियो। यो गानका रचनाकार कवि व्याकुल माइला हुन् भने सङ्गीतकार अम्बर गुरुङ हुन्।[५] यस गीतमा २० भन्दा बढी चर्चित गायक/गायिकाहरूले स्वर दिएका छन्। २०६२/६३ सालको परजिवितान्त्रिक आन्दोलनबाट शाही शासन अन्त्य भएपछि यो गीतलाई राष्ट्रिय गानको रूपमा अन्तरिम संसदले स्वीकृत गरेको थियो। यो गान राष्ट्रिय गान छनोट समितिले २०६३ मङ्सिर १४ मा नेपाल सरकारलाई हस्तान्तरण गरेको थियो जुन २०६४ वैशाख ७ गते राष्ट्रिय गानका रूपमा छानिएको छ।
