I remember buying this game with my best friend. Hell, I remember bike riding to GameStop, looking around at everything and him going "hmm, Westwood...?" I remember black Kat's jump being insanely high and we laughed about it for like two hours, and jumped everywhere. I miss weird cool games like this.
My god... This was one of Westwood Studios' last three games. God, rest in peace you RTS pioneers! EDIT: Of course, their REAL swan song was in 2001 with Emperor: Battle for Dune, but still. The original Xbox being home to one of their last titles...
Loved this as a kid. Played it for the first time in like 20 years on my modded to shit xbox recently and... yeah, it's really good, actually. I really liked it.
Only discovered your channel recently and been loving it. You have a really captivating presentation style and your love for these games is clear, even when they arent at their best. If you are still taking suggestions I'd love to hear you talk about the Def Jam games, especially Fight for NY. It's an unconventional fighter but excellent in its niche.
The fact that this is an early 2000’s game and has awesome water graphics says something. I had fond memories of this game when I was younger and I do wish to pick up a copy again so that I can beat the game.
I remember someone recommending a pirate Xbox game that in retrospect was probably this one. It sounded awesome, and I kept an eye out to pick it up, but mistook it for Galleon. Galleon didn't impress me and I gave up early on, assuming the open worldy stuff that attracted me was later in the game. Thanks very much for this review, this game looks like exactly my kind of game.
I remember renting this game as a kid. I thought it was good and loved the seafaring activities in particular. It helps that the water was very nice at the time and is still attractive today.
i wonder how this compares to the pirates of the caribbean (sea dogs) on xbox. I beat it, which i dont usually do, but the game was a tougher fight than the enemies lol. The crashes and save corruption almost forced me to abandon it. Still fun, 20 years ago lol. (can be played on PC as sea dogs)
I'd say this is a little more action packed than Pirates of the Caribbean. There is no mercantile system or anything and is more focused on exploration.
my dad played this when i was growing up. i was pretty little. i was always mesmerized by the gameplay. i just found out what game it was today. i seen him play it maybe 20 years ago. that would make me 10-11 years old. i still have some doubts this may be the game he was playing, as i remember the cool boat fights and i vaguely remember poisonous darts... but that could be a mandela effect. let me know if this sounds like the game ive been looking for all those years!
I’ve seen this game but didn’t know anything about it. I might have to check it out now though. Weirdly enough, watching your gameplay the game reminds me of Assassins Creed Odyssey, or at least the ship combat and island exploration parts of Odyssey.
@@campxbox it’s actually one of my favorite games of all time lol. I didn’t get into Origins or Valhalla but Odyssey was on another level. HUGE open world. Great story with all of the Greek mythology you would expect. And the combat, exploration and ship to ship combat is really good. Everything is upgradable. It even has the ability to ram other ships like you said this game has lol. They even added the ability for custom player-made quests. Like I said, one of my all time favorite games. If you play it though make sure you play as Kassandra and not Alexios.
Hey, this is yet another one that I only learned about thanks to my modded Xbox recently too! I love this channel, always hitting up those little known cult classics. I think I agree with you big-time on this one; it's actually really neat and solid from what I played. I wasn't sure what I thought about the lack of direction (I'm sure I would've loved it back in the day when I had more free time, lol), but it definitely is a nice direction to take a pirate game. Really encourages exploration and sailing and looking for treasure as you said. This is a neat little game from a generation that I feel like had a few neat, under-the-radar pirate games (Pirates: Legend of the Black Buccaneer on the PS2, for instance. A Sony _published_ title that I only learned about once it was released on PS3 as a PS2 Classic. Why did no one market any of these well?!). Nice review; really makes me want to give more time to this and dive into this for real a bit. *Galleon: Islands of Mystery* (I actually can't recall atm if it kept that subtitle on the actual, like, title screen. I just remember it being called that in magazines) is the pirate game I actually _WANTED_ to play really badly back in the day on the Xbox, but never found it in stores. When I finally tried it on my modded machine, it.... was weird. When you get to that one, prepare for... some tribulations, let's say. The controls are not fluid or intuitive. I distinctly remember reading Next Gen magazine issues previewing it, talking to Toby Gard (who also created Tomb Raider) and how proud he was to focus on making super fluid traversal because Lara Croft was so clunky to control and limited to a grid system. Well, the dude in Galleon doesn't stick to a grid system, but he controls.... like.... a vehicle. It's the only game with a character controller like that, and it is impossible not to notice. It's almost like tank controls in a survival horror game, but not. So fair warning! Whenever you get to that one. Galleon's got a neat style though, as long as you can appreciate the chiseled, angular character models; I find them nostalgic. It looks like how Lara Croft & co. looked in the _pre-rendered_ cutscenes in Tomb Raider, as well as other old CGI characters from various games and animated shows at the time. But I know they're not for everyone.
Galleon is one of those games I love the concept of since the controls are so offbeat, but yeah from what I played I had a hard time getting into it. It is one I definitely need to cover eventually though. It has such an interesting development history.
Now hear is the AAAA pirate game i have been looking for. You really should do a s pecial episode on pirate themed games. Didnt know this one existed and then with pirates of the caribean and sids pirates. I m sure there are more that i have no idea about.
Wait, you say there is no legacy, but what about Pirates: Legend of the Black Buccaneer? Is that just a lazy coincidence? I always thought it was a sequel (I never played it, because I didn't enjoy Black Kat).
I didn’t know that game existed and I went ahead and looked into it since the name is so similar. This is just from looking it up, I didn’t play it, but I don’t think its a sequel. It has a new character with no connection to Black Kats story, looks to play like Prince of Persia instead of an open rpg, and has a different dev and publisher. It might be loosely connected, but it doesn’t seem so. Looks like an interesting game though.
If this game had been released in 2024 people would screem "ewww female character, WOKE propaganda!!". I'm glad we had cool female characters back in the day, without all this childish whining we have now.
I agree, I've always loved cool female characters, and I played the crap out of this game 20 years ago. But I'm not sure who would've called it "woke" after seeing Black Kat's large chest with deep cleavage on display. I think she might've been put in the same category with characters like Bayonetta, 2B, etc., especially considering the cheat codes to put Kat in a bikini (which the reviewer failed to mention or wasn't aware of).
I had this on ps2. I thought I was the only one who knew of this game lmao. The ship battles were my favorite as a kid!
More depth than Skull and Bones
For real 😂
And more boobies
Literally my first thought
Did my reply get deleted because I said b00bs?
Ha
Holy crap dude. You just unlocked a forgotten childhood memory.

Emperor: Battle for Dune was SO good. Not enough people are talking about it nowadays.
I'm not going to lie. Those graphics are pretty damn impressive for an early Xbox game, but to Xbox, always did look good
This is crazy. I remember playing this game a lot time ago and totally forgot it existed till now!
Loved this as a kid. Played it for the first time in like 20 years on my modded to shit xbox recently and... yeah, it's really good, actually. I really liked it.

I'm glad you enjoy the stuff I'm putting out! Yeah those are definitely on my to-do list, I'll add them to my recommendation list!
This was my first xbox game next to jet set radio future that came with mine.
That's a great first selection!
Found this at a garage sale and got it for like $3!!! Looking forward to playing it sometime soon!!
Hope you enjoy it!
I played the hell out of this game as a kid! Glad to see it brought back up!
Has the Crimson Skies water, which was one of the “graphics will never get better than this!” moments for me Lol.
The fact that this is an early 2000’s game and has awesome water graphics says something.
I had fond memories of this game when I was younger and I do wish to pick up a copy again so that I can beat the game.
Love your channel!
Recently modded my xbox and your videos have given me so many to pick from..
One Love buddy!
Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you are finding some new games to play!
I remember print ads and preview for this, but ultimately shied away due to middling reviews. Sounds like I would've enjoyed it.
This has been on my wishlist for awhile, guess I need to pick it up soon haha
Appreciate the review, one of our favorite games in my house 😁. FULL SAILS ☠️
this is one of my core memory games growing up gotta try to play it again

Thanks for watching. I played some Galleon and had trouble getting into it as well, but I really need to take a deeper look into it.
Ngl the cover art of this game gave me nightmares as a kid but It always made me wanna play it more. Such a core memory. Thank you for uploading this
Owned the game once. Truly one of my treasured gaming childhood moments.
I remember renting this game as a kid. I thought it was good and loved the seafaring activities in particular. It helps that the water was very nice at the time and is still attractive today.

With the new Tomb Raider just came out, how about a review of the Tomb Raider title on the classic Xbox?
Good idea I'll add those to the recommendation list!
THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD AND I LOVE IT TO THIS DAY.

I hope you review Sid Miers Pirates one day for Xbox.
It's also back compat with the series x
Ill add it to the recommendation list!
I played this as a kid, the ghost women in the 2nd world terrified me.
8:41 the graphics in this game are 10x better than Skull and Bones
I played this on a ps2 demo disc and forgot what it was! I know for sure I want the Xbox version
How i never heard of this game when i had the xbox?
I’ve seen this game but didn’t know anything about it. I might have to check it out now though. Weirdly enough, watching your gameplay the game reminds me of Assassins Creed Odyssey, or at least the ship combat and island exploration parts of Odyssey.
Oh that makes me really interested in that Assassins Creed.

Oh wow that sounds great! I'll have to give it a shot soon.
this seems nice, have it in collection, will check it out
This was always one of those games that could've used a remake or re-imagening. There's quite a lot of potential for a really good game here.
It's my favourite pirate games ever made!

This game was awesome
Before Black Flag!
This one didn't delay almost a decade
I love this game
I recommend trying out Yager next!
I'll add it to the list! That one has an interesting development history.
Hell yeah
this is the part with the car
or the ship

Is this backwards compatible with Series X...?
Unfortunately not
Can i compare this to Risen 2 or is Risen 2 a complete different game?
I haven’t played it enough so I cant say. Ive been interested in the Risen series though.
Sloop! There it is.
This is a AAAA game learn ubisoft

People don’t like ugly female characters. People like attractive characters.
An exploration-focused RPG that only lasts about 10 hours?
Yeah, I can see why this didn't leave a lasting impact.
Very bad graphics
