The vast majority of Harry Potter fans only know the “always” Snape from the movies who did everything for Harry because of his love for Lily. They don’t know the book Snape who literally asked Voldemort to spare Lily and kill Harry and James. They don’t know the book Snape who bullied the heck outta Hermione and Neville for literally no reason. (Neville to the point where he was literally Neville’s worst fear.)
I'm reading Goblet of Fire to my daughter and we just read the part where Harry was trying to get to Dumbledore to tell him about Mr. Crouch showing up in the forest. The way Snape just blocked the entrance to Dumbledore's office and refused to even listen to Harry, let alone help him. Got my blood boiling! Snape enjoys torturing Harry. I am almost through the second book, for the 1000th time. And I just thought of something I would love your take on, I don’t think you’ve ever mentioned it on your channel. So the basilisk kills when looking into the victims eyes, and petrified if you look at it through something. But what would happen if Harry was under the invisibility cloak and looked at the basilisk? Would he be petrified, or would nothing happen, since the basilisk wouldn’t be able to see him? We know that moody can look through the cloak, but that is the only time we ever know someone to be able to look through the cloak…except for maybe mrs. Norris? We never get confirmation whether she is able to look through the cloak? Maybe this is also true for other animals? I would love to get your take on this? Have you thought of this before?
@@DisgruntledAlchemist I think that's my own conclusion as well, but it is interesting none the less. When Harry is in the chamber and the Basilisks eyes are damaged, Harry can look at it again, so that would mean that it is essential that both the Basislisk and the Victims is looking at eachother. But the Basilisk wouldnt be able to look at Harry if he was under the Cloak, since he's invisible

Hagrid is a part of Dumbledore’s Big Plan. Dumbledore tells Hagrid information knowing it will get told to Harry. It didn’t matter that Hagrid told Quirrell how to get past Fluffy because Quirrell could never get the Stone out of the Mirror.
I'd always assumed that these leaks, which were seemingly unintentional, were also part of the plan to cover up the fact that there was a big plan at all.
Putting Quirrell so close to the Stone was still a serious risk. Powerless though he was at the time, Voldemort still had his mind. If anyone could figure out what Dumbledore did, and undo the spell, it was him.
In all fairness in regards to the drinking... Dragon Egg, I assumed the 'hooded figure' was using jedi mind tricks (Imperius) on Hagrid to encourage him to drink. Holing up in cabin, no defence. Aragog's death?! You lose your oldest friend of 50 years and not be tempted into a bender. 🤨
Hagrid likes to drink, the books are pretty honest about that. On top of that, he tends to lean towards the more dangerous creatures because he wants to prove they "aren't bad." He also forgets that as a half giant, he can handle these creatures far more than an average wizard much kess a kid. So I don't think he was under a curse, I think he decided that he got away with it Aragog and Mosag (and their extended family) so why not try again? Only, it was the trio who suffered the consequences, not Hagrid.
I see what you're saying but after a couple read throughs I really notice the adult characters really really lean on alcohol any chance they get, I think there's a couple of scenes where both the Dursley and the Weasley adults immediately reach for a bottle of brandy (Dursleys) or whiskey (Weasleys) while something shocking happens
Also there are several scenes where Hagrid is DRUNK because he's in a sad mood, and it is implied that during the time that he hides in his cabin because of Rita Skeeta he is just drinking and not doing ANYTHING else, theres a line something like "Hagrid hasn't been seen out of his hut, not even to do his regular gamekeeping duties"
As a motorcycle rider, I'm still curious how Hagrid managed to ride one one handed, even if it was magical. Like, during the journey once at altitude perhaps, as the left hand is free once you no longer need to shift getting up to speed, but if it's like stopping and starting a real one, landing and taking off is a 2 hands 2 feet affair.
Politely requesting a scathing review of Albus Dumbledore. I know he's the mastermind of the plot, or at least a significant driver of it, but I've always believed he's such a flawed character. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts
Flawed? In his youth maybe. But throughout the books, literally everything he does is either to fight Voldemort or to protect people, Harry in particular of course.
Who to make a scathing review of?: - Cornelius Fudge (Just every act, decision or action as minister for magic) Truelly the worst person for a position of power. Easily manipulated, and very fearfull of loosing his seat of power by people finding out how unintelligent or unworthy for leadership he trully is. - Harry Potter (Never truelly trusts Dumbledore with his findings or visions) - Dumbledore (Always explain crucial information at the end of every year, instead of sharing bits ever so often.) - McGonagall (When does she actually show/teach the Gryffindor traits/vertues?) Why does she always take points of gryffindor students? She does not at any point explain why and then teaches how to act instead. - Snape (Why does he hate Hermione and Neville so much?) For someone Harry views as the most curages person, he is very pityfull and fearfull. He yearns for approval from Slytherine students, and never disciplines their foul behaviour. Like with Malfoy calling other students "mud blods", but as soon as students from the other houses says or does something out of line from his perspective the get points taken from and/or gives them detentionen. - All in the wizarding world (Why don't they use more usefull muggle inventions like the telephone for communication instead of leathers, the television for broadcasts/entertainment? But use radio's for dissaperience updates) Transportation the muggles have lost, I mean fluepowder or disapparate spell can't beat that. But what is up with brooms for flying? I mean sure witches have been depicted to fly on brooms for hundreds of years. But there should be some newer/smarter inventions to make flying more comfortable or safer. - Magic in the wizarding world (By definition making something out of nothing is magic. Then why is magic in the wizarding world limited to only be able to duplicate an existing thing or changing something from one thing to something els?) I mean there is a lot of cool magic in the wizarding world, but why restraints on magic? Then it's not magic then it's the "magic or science" from "the Sorceress Apprentice" movie from 2010. - Schools in the wizarding world (I haven't heard of language "english/french/bulgarian" classes, that teaches reading/wrighting/speaking or maths/geometry? Are there schools for magical children before the age of 11?) Also getting sorted into four different "houses" in one school is strange. But then the students are not separated in the classrooms? Seems like it's only in quidditch and house points.
My own conclusion of the first book. is that Dumbledore set the events of the book up. He intended for Harry and his friends to try and save the stone. This is why hagrid let so much slip. he was told to tell them. this is a trait of Hagrid we never see again.
Maybe I've overlooked this but does Hagrids ban on magic ever get lifted. Obviously not during the story but after. The absolute least the Ministry could do for Hagrid in recognition of his contributions to the fall of the dark lord is lift his prohibition on magic.
Yeah it’s pretty nuts that he gets proven innocent but still has his ability to be a wizard taken away, being told you can never do magic again becsue you got expelled from a school is crazy to me
@bruhdon4748 magic is so central to life in the Wizarding world it's like having your right arm and left leg taken as punishment for some dumb childhood decision.
The issue isn't that Hagrid is mean, rhe issue is that Hagrid does various questionable things that he ends up dragging the students into. Or that cause more problems to everyone.
I just reread sorcerers stone and I’m actually not thrilled with Hagrid. He had been having an argument with Vernon, who then insulted Dumbledore and Hagrids response is to Transfigure Dudley into a pig! I’m not saying Dudley didn’t deserve it, but Hagrid didn’t know that. And Dudley was only 11 at most

The scene where you were on the phone about the funeral reminded me so much of this great video series called "If I was the Dad in a YA Fantasy". He started on TikTok I think but I watch his compilation videos here on UA-cam. They're about 15 minutes long, there's over 20 of them and they're all about the difficulties of this father of 2 kids: 1 like Harry Potter and the other like the girl from Twilight. He has lots of conversations with the school about just how unsafe the Forbidden Forest and stuff are. It's a very interesting and funny one man show. I highly recommend it to those interested in such things.

Did you guys not realize that he was asked to breed the blasteneded skrewts FOR the triwizard tournament? Thats why he couldn’t say anything about it when asked where he got them or why he was allowed to breed them
Making this a series would be hilarious. Scathing review of characters, even ones that are universally loved, there's probably something fun you can put into it
Just because Hagrid said that Harry could fit in one hand doesn't mean he carried him like that, Harrid was merely saying how small Harry was. And I was always under the belief that Hagrid's breeding of blast ended skrewt was at the request of the Ministry for the final task in the tournament. This is because 1) they were used in the task and 2) there was no investigate or action taken against Hagrid by the Ministry after Rita published he had been breeding them. If they were that illegal people at the ministry or connected to the ministry (Malfoy perhaps) would have pushed for punishment.

I wonder if the testimony of Harry Potter, along with Madam Pomphrey's assertion that she could find nothing wrong with Draco's arm after the initial healing, would've made a difference after Lucius opened his coin pouch.
Also, also Dumbledore needs a scathing review. I know you guys are pro Dumbledore, but… he leaves Harry in an abusive home and does nothing about it because abuse victims are easier to control. He’s raising child soldiers to fight this war. He’s raising Harry as a pig for slaughter (I’m not giving him credit for the glint of triumph.). And let’s not forget that he didn’t actually properly prepare Harry for the mission he was given. At the end of Goblet he tells Fudge a laundry list of things he needs to do now that Voldemort is back, but it’s too late to do anything except remove the dementors. He had 13 years to befriend giants and werewolves to sway them to his side and did nothing. Also, also look at how he treats Sirius. My theory is that he left Sirius in Azkaban so that he couldn’t interfere with Dumbledore’s plans for Harry. It would be much harder if Harry had a parental figure in his life. He also lets Sirius starve in a cave for a year during Goblet. Does he achieve the greater good? Sure. Does he do some evil things to get there. Most definitely.
Yeah I honestly don’t understand why he didn’t just train and prepare Harry from a young age, give him every advantage possible while also instilling good morals and behaviour onto him, I feel like Harry was definitely given the worse start possible as a human and wizard alike. Edit: there wouldn’t be a story I guess or the story as we know it if that was the case.
I dont agree with your points about Sirius at all. He never knew Sirius was innocent until PoA so of course he was fine with Sirius being in Azkaban, it has nothing to do with his plans for Harry. As for how Sirius languished in a cave starving and alone for the entirety of GoF, well Dumbledore simply had no knowledge of this, so there's nothing he could have done.
Most of your points have an incorrect premise. Him leaving Harry with the Dursleys has nothing to do with abuse victims being easier to control and everything to do with the Bond of Blood. Teaching children how to perform magic in a society where you teach children how to perform magic is not raising child soldiers. Third point is correct. He very much tried to properly prepare Harry, but a lot happened that he couldn't have foreseen. It's not too late for Fudge to do anything, Fudge just won't listen. Werewolves aren't a consolidated society (and are often secretive about their nature) and yeah he probably could have sent Hagrid to the giants early. Alone. Yeah. Dumbledore had no idea Sirius was innocent until the end of Prisoner, after he'd already broken out. It has nothing to do with controlling Harry. It was about keeping Harry safe from a convicted murderer. I don't even remember what Sirius is up to in Goblet so I have no opinion on that.
Hagrid almost squished Harry in Hallows. When Hagrid gets to HW and his brother shoves him thru a window just where Harry was. Or when the side car broke in Hallows
Your list of annual headaches caused by Hagrid left out the one in Deathly Hallows when he got a bunch of students in trouble by hosting a "Support Harry Potter" party.
A minute ago? There's nearly an entire day, a day in which the entire wizarding world learns that Harry survived the Killing curse. Witnesses to that event, Lilly, Tom, and Harry. By the time anyone else shows up the dead is done. And yet the entire wizarding world knows about an event from which no one is available to give witness. My personal theory is that Hagrid took baby Harry down to the Leaky Cauldron and presented him like some kind of pries while telling everyone he'd survived the killing curse. It's the only thing that makes Harry's sudden climb to fame make sense.
Honestly, Hagrid is one the things that suffered the most in the series' changing tone. His being a vaguely irresponsible goofball with a heart of gold fit in perfectly fine in the first few books. But, like a lot of things, it just didn't translate as well as the series became darker and "more serious".
I would argue that due to abuse and dealing with the Dementors for years, it stunted Sirius to a degree. Add the fact that he got stuck in the family home-a home he hated, not being able to do what he wanted to do and yeah, one can see why Sirius has some issues. That being said, he stood up for Harry and tried his best.
I would argue Arthur is better than Hagrid. Hagrid is too trusting, too loose lipped, and only has too little he says. Arthur is better provider, shows more care for his kids, and shows more trustworthy.
I will say though Robbie Coltrane played the role perfectly. He brought so much warmth to the role. His loss was felt very hard when he passed. I remember not long after he passed I was watching Chamber Of Secrets and it got to the scene at the end where he is back from Azkaban and comes to the great hall and like everyone gives him a massive round of applause and claps and cheers for him I just burst into tears. I was bawling. There was a waterfall on my face. I do truly fear for the upcoming HBO series because half the people in the OG movies just were so perfectly cast. They made those roles and it will be hard to see anyone else step into those roles and bring the same energies.
Lovable ol' fella just can't help himself, he's taking care of all the misunderstood, occasionally uncontrollable mystical little buddies out there despite the potential risks to himself and others. Just like my aunt
It's tough, cus Hagrid is like our first good guy in the series. He buys Harry a bunch of cool stuff etc, but the more we learn about him, the more I questioned why he did things the way he did. Like if in the last book Hagrid would have been a death eater, it wouldn't have surprised me. He's like the opposite of Snape. Where with Snape, we always kind of think he's a bad guy, but the more we learn about him, we start to question whether he really is or isn't by his actions (always giving Harry subtle hints etc) then we find out he isn't.
When you realise that mcgonagall, flitwick and pomfrey and sprout are the only members off the staff that actualy do their job and wouldn't be fired in the first couple of seconds they start working in school
Giving Harry Hedwig led to Harry having an extremely unusual and recognizable owl, thus making it easy to identify mail to and from Harry and try to intercept it. Are we *sure* Hagrid isn't secretly on the other side??

I know Hagrid makes a lot of mistakes (almost all of which are very helpful to the plot), but he'll always be my favorite character. We all need someone as caring and likable as Hagrid in our lives, whether they're a literal ten-foot teddy bear or not.
I learned recently he's 12 feet.
100% agree. Hagrid is a great friend and character. I love him!
I like to think that Hagrid just put baby Harry in one of the pockets on his coat.
Honestly, these episodes need to be introduced with a short text prompt saying "please turn on CC" because whomever the GLORIOUS captioner is deserves all the love. He/She/They crush every fkn time bro, it's nutty how on point those captions are.
It's still cute you think Hagrid could have won that case when Lucious was bribing the jury
In their podcast they sort of allude to the fact that Dumbledore could have put a stop to the whole thing because of how ridiculous it is, but he doesn’t in order to show Harry the importance of sparing an innocent life.
@@cybersoul3371 Which is absurd considering Dumbledore would have no way of predicting they'd go back in time and stop the execution. Dumbledore's big plan only works if he has some disregard of life for "The Greater Good"
@ I would say Dumbledore absolutely does have some disregard of life for “The Greater Good”
@@cybersoul3371 I don't think he could've. What facts could Dumbledoor possibly have that would un-bribe the jury?
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 It’s not about the facts. In a world where this case is tried fairly it wouldn’t exist in the first place. I think if Dumbledore pushed against Lucius (perhaps with blackmail from chamber), he’d quickly drop it
To be fair, what doesn't nearly get Harry killed?
PREACH IT BROTHERRRRRRRR!!!!!

Right but you have to remember that when Hagrid took baby Harry on a questionable motorbike with no safety seats it was the early 80s and things were different then
doesn't mean it was safe just because the time was different. even people back then would tell you that was very unsafe

We should probably just be glad baby Harry didn't sit in his coat of pockets and end up like his first birthday cake.
He would be petrified and invisible. 🫥
@@DisgruntledAlchemist yikes, that’s even worse😲
I'm pretty sure they discuss it at some point during the second book on 'Through the Griffin Door' and the conclusion was petrified and invisible.

I agree.
Right? They really need to watch 'Dumbledore's Big Plan' and cure their ignorance
"For Faux' sake" is actually genius
Also, Hagrid did not give away Slughorn's information and did not know that Slughorn knew how to make Horcruxes.
@@tommyxboy101for the Weasleys, they are in a war
I can't believe you passed up the chance to use the "SWAGRID" meme. :)
PERFECT THUMBNAIL 😂😂😂😂😂
As a motorcycle rider, I'm still curious how Hagrid managed to ride one one handed, even if it was magical. Like, during the journey once at altitude perhaps, as the left hand is free once you no longer need to shift getting up to speed, but if it's like stopping and starting a real one, landing and taking off is a 2 hands 2 feet affair.
To be fair, most of the adults in the Harry Potter series have no business teaching children…
McGonagall is the exception. That woman is amazing
@ definitely
Actually Flitwick, Sprout and McGonegal are all very competent teachers. Snape, Hagrid and Slughorn are the bad/questionable types.
@@joonaslaitinen9520 Meanwhile, professor Sprout from the movies:
- He (Neville) has just fainted.

Oh, I saw this right before I left back to work. I got just enough time to download it.
Who to make a scathing review of?:
- Cornelius Fudge (Just every act, decision or action as minister for magic) Truelly the worst person for a position of power. Easily manipulated, and very fearfull of loosing his seat of power by people finding out how unintelligent or unworthy for leadership he trully is.
- Harry Potter (Never truelly trusts Dumbledore with his findings or visions)
- Dumbledore (Always explain crucial information at the end of every year, instead of sharing bits ever so often.)
- McGonagall (When does she actually show/teach the Gryffindor traits/vertues?) Why does she always take points of gryffindor students?
11:18 That wink!😂😂😂
HAGRID?? Out of all the characters you could have chosen from, Hagrid stood out to you??? He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Shame sirs! Shame!
And Dudley was only 11 at most
Thats not why he transfigured him

This reminds me of an old article in mugglenet "Did Umbridge Have a Point: Dumbledore’s Giant Mistake". Is still up, and it makes very good points.
3:53 You don't know NHS in the UK. They don't care.4:02 Didn't Harry meet Dedalus Diggle as a kid before he knew about his wizard heritage? 5:46 But it is legal in the UK. Almost every high street here has a gambling shop. As a non-native resident it was shocking for me but then again it is quite normal here. You can buy gambling scratch cards in almost every supermarket.

Love this channel the vibes are immaculate
I wonder if the testimony of Harry Potter, along with Madam Pomphrey's assertion that she could find nothing wrong with Draco's arm after the initial healing, would've made a difference after Lucius opened his coin pouch.
That cut of Hedwig dying at the end was absolutely not okay, too soon.
I’ve had this theory that the skrewts were always meant for the maze but Hagrid couldn’t reveal that part. A secret he actually kept for once lol
Ok that ending with Hedwig was just cold 😭
They could also scythe Jeff Fletchly 😂!!!
@ My premise is built on Dumbledore acting according to the prophecy. He uses the bond of blood to keep Harry alive until he can fight Voldemort.
Haven't seen the channel in a while. When you grow such a mighty mustache?
My read on the Skrewts was that Hagrid was breeding them FOR the tournament. The tournament has been known for its lethality in previous years
Honestly, Hagrid is one the things that suffered the most in the series' changing tone. His being a vaguely irresponsible goofball with a heart of gold fit in perfectly fine in the first few books. But, like a lot of things, it just didn't translate as well as the series became darker and "more serious".
Love your content guys
it's already been a few months but I still can't believe that is a real mustache
I will tolerate no slander of Hagrid. The best father figure in Harry’s life. You know who deserves a scathing review? *Sirius Black.*
Arthur is better provider, shows more care for his kids, and shows more trustworthy.
i haven't had that good of a laugh in a while, well done
your mustache is getting more ridiculous and I absolutely love it!
Love a super carlin brothers video❤
I love the scathing reviews from you.

Fudge deserves a scathing review!
We all have that friend that always makes the worst decisions and gets in their own way, but you can help but still love them. That's Hagrid.
Lovable ol' fella just can't help himself, he's taking care of all the misunderstood, occasionally uncontrollable mystical little buddies out there despite the potential risks to himself and others.
Just like my aunt
That last edit after "he gave Harry Hedwig" was Savage! Savage I say
If hagrid didn't pass out, he would be like to slughorn "you should not say that, you should not say that"
14:48 NO THEY DIDNT
😮
When you realise that mcgonagall, flitwick and pomfrey and sprout are the only members off the staff that actualy do their job and wouldn't be fired in the first couple of seconds they start working in school
That Hedwig ending was uncalled for
I never liked Hagrid. He is unpleasant and weird. And Dumbledore liked him because he is loyal to a fault and therefore easy to manipulate.
Phineas and Ferb making an appearance via reference!
It was fine to bring Harry as a baby on the motorcycle it was the 80s man
Giving Harry Hedwig led to Harry having an extremely unusual and recognizable owl, thus making it easy to identify mail to and from Harry and try to intercept it. Are we *sure* Hagrid isn't secretly on the other side??
Wait, I never thought of this, but ... if the skrewts are illegal, how are they allowed into the maze as an official obstacle?
Enormous annual headache🤣 I’m borrowing this, there are many who fall under that description
