Summary E489: The door to the past.
As Gülperi woke up again, she’s no ware to be found in her room. The window is open, fresh air in her room, but Gülperi is not.
Gülperi is outside and digs itself sore into the soil. She is looking for something. Is she looking for the old Gülperi, is she looking for the past, is she looking for her parents or for her grandmother, the only comfort she used to have.
- Since this scene has the title "Traces of the past", it shows that Gülperi is searching for the past. She is looking for the ones she lost. She is looking for them and trying to get them back. Gülperi is desperate, because she is stuck. She wants to close the past, but she can't, because she doesn't know what the past is anymore. The past that is filled with pain. Her own past. This means that the meds work. -
Finding Gülperi outside, worries the ladies of the house even more, that Cavidan hurries to her hold her and tries to reach out to her. Guided by Melike Abla and Cavidan, Gülperi is being brought back home and she just starts crying out of pain again, something she didn’t do in a day.
Getting her home, having a warm bath, Gülperi is not being left alone. She has her chosen family around her, but Gülperi doesn’t feel like being a part of them nor the moment. She’s sitting there like a statue, listens to her heart beat and the storm inside herself but is not reacting any longer to anything. While Melike Abla and Fidan try very hard to get in touch with her and the old Gülperi again, Gülperi is just there. Her hair is being brushed, and taken care of just like they take care of her, but lost her reaction to everything. Eventually little Yigit came to, to help dry the hair of his Peri Kizi just like she always does with his. A moment which is always a moment of closeness for them became cold and emotionless. Gülperi still doesn’t react to any of Yigit’s efforts either and it’s Yigit, the one she never pushes away. - That’s where you can realize that Gülperi I truly lost. - Gülperi is in her own world of pain and still alone.
- What I like about that scene is also that the sunlight finale came through in to the room of Gülperi, as she woke up out of her trance, while she was a way. It was quite dark for her alone in there and a little bit of light came through. Even if Gülperi doesn’t feel it not realize it, at that moment she knows she’s actually not alone, she just can’t do anything about it. Her situation is a condition of a breakdown and depression. Because not her body is tiered but her soul is. And when the soul is tired, the source for your heart and body to live, you don’t work properly. That’s how depression is. It’s not an easy process and for Gülperi, the finale breakdown she had, with the voice of Beyhan accusing her about everything broke her soul, because she tried to hold on to it, keep it alive, trying to ignore this voice but eventually she was not strong enough, as she already was in a lot of pieces. -It sad how people don’t realize how they can break others. - The cutest moment, Yigit coming to take care of his Peri Kizi, just like she always takes care of him. With the warm towel, he tries to warm her up, in order not to get cold like she always does with him. Even if Yigti is not aware of it, he actually wants to warm her soul which became cold. -
Meanwhile, Emir who’s shocked by the newest information he got from Savas, is at the source of wise words and Gülperi in world, Hasan Amca. Informing Hasan Amca about Bekir (Gülepri’s father) being alive, surprises Hasan Amca too, and yet he knew that Bekir would never do such a thing, as he loved his wife very much.
And now it’s time to open the past again, that Emir asks Hasan Amca, to tell him everything he knows. (In my opinion, this was actually a mistake from the writers, because Hasan Amca actually already told him about the past of Gülperi, in the hospital as well as when he got out of the hospital and the whole story about her parents. This is just quite confusing but ok. I’m not surprised!)
Emir has a plan in his mind, which is to reunite Gülperi with her father, just like I already predicted two days ago. Through the wise words of Hasan Amca and his fatherly support, Emir is sure about his decision and will continue to do what it has to take.
A call from the lawyer, Emir receives the confirmation that Bekir is really in prison for the murder of his wife. Although he still has a few years to complete, Bekir never applied for release, for no reason. It is curious for the lawyer and Emir who wants to know the name of the prison.
- Bekir's sudden request for release indicates that this is really a more profound event related to the years he has served. -
As the ship of Savaş, got to go through a few hardships , he calmly repairs it again, tries to focus and relax, while inside he’s the totally opposite of that. He remembers his last conversation with Emir, where he told him the truth about Gülperi’s father, a very hard decision Savaş made, which he deeply thinks about.
Willing to go to the Tarhun’s house, Savaş will take his mysterious guest with him.
While Savaş is ready to meet up with Emir, Emir is finally able to bring some light in to his darkness and is at the prison, willing to meet with Gülperi’s father. With the help of Kemal and a few arrangements, the meeting could be held after all which Emir is ready for.
Impatiently waiting in the meeting room area, Emir has all kinds of questions in his mind and can’t wait to meet and hear what the father has to say.
Emir waited in vain, as according to the guardian, Bekir is not willing to see any visitors, just like he did in the. Last twenty years. Emir is quiet disappointed not being able to see and talk to him, but he’s not giving up his hope. Asking for a paper and a pen, Emir writes something for Bekir which should get him out of his cell willing to meet him.
The guardian is skeptical about this move and yet is willing to forward the mail, while Emir is keeping it positive knowing that it would change his opinion and he’ll come. The hope is there, and Emir is not willing to give up until he tried everything he can.
The father of Gülperi came out of his cell after 20 years, and the reason for that his is daughter. “Gülperi” wrote Emir on the paper, with the hope it’ll work and it did.
Bekir saw the name of his daughter, and thinks that Gülperi came, willing to meet her.
Emir hears the gates getting opened while Bekir can’t wait to see his daughter again after a long time. But it’s not Gülperi whom he sees it’s an unknown young man. Cautiously and curiously, he enters and informs Emir that he is only meeting him because he mentioned Gülperi. He looks at Emir with concern and asks if his daughter is well, a question which Emir has a long answer to and doesn't know where to start. He looks at Bekir worried and angry, angry about what happened to Gülperi all this time.
- What a meeting. Meeting his father in law in prison! Quite funny though. I wanted Emir to introduce himself as his son in law but he didn’t after all. But that would be quite interesting and adorable. -
As Emir is meeting with Bekir willing to hear his side of the story about the hidden past, Gülperi still keep worrying everyone around her at the house. She’s outside, surrounded by fresh air and a wonderful weather, something Gülperi always used to enjoy but doesn’t any longer. She holds the necklace of her past which connects her with her grandmother. The necklace of safety and comfort. Gülperi is just sitting there, holding on to something, and lost in her own world. She closed herself up in there not willing to get out.
After his meeting with Bekir, Emir is back home wiling to hear any developing news regarding Gülperi. But nothing new, only that with time everything will be fine, as Cavidan told him. Time, the only hope which Emir can hold on too willing to go and see Gülperi.
But some unannounced guests just arrived, and it’s Savaş with a well-known psychologist from Ankara to the dear patient.
Both Emir and Savaş just look at each other without any words, and yet they share the same opinion and goal, helping Gülperi to heal again. A moment very intense between the two of them as the big secret has been revealed this morning. But for now, Emir and Savaş put their differences aside and focus on the healing process of Gülperi, while Cavidan just sees the cold between her son and Savaş.
The meeting is over and Doctor Bey has made his opinion about Gülperi’s situation. The doctor gives them two treatments solutions with the help of medication. Either Gülperi faces her past, accepts it tries to move on or they will keep her like this, help her to remember her past, but only the good memories and eliminate the traumatizing ones and keep the door to them closed forever, as Gülperi has a lot of them in her mind. As the doctor said, Gülperi closed herself up and only she has the key to that door, either she opens it or she keeps it closed and stays stuck. Some process is that at least the medication she starts to take, are showing some affect.

- Thank you doctor Bey, for agreeing with me and most if the viewers. When I get the right answer I always feel happy, because this means I understood the situation and the drama. And just like I write since three weeks and above Gülperi needs to see herself, forgive herself, stop blaming herself close the door to that past, which keeps haunting her. I truly don’t wanna repeat myself because it would be boring for me and you. But just like the doctor said, Gülperi needs to take that step herself to face the pain of her past. But right now, Gülperi has closed herself up. She keeps the door closed and yet holds the door knob. She wants to open it but can’t out of fear. She fears to endure the same over again, so she keeps herself where she thinks she’s safe, even if she’s alone. Step by step Gülperi will learn untie the knots. With the help of the medication and her own will and Emir, Gülperi will go through the steps to untie the knots and open the door. But the most important thing is that she faces her past and removes the recurring accusations of Beyhan once and for all from her kind heart and mind and accepts that nothing is her fault, that she doesn't want to harm anyone and that she is strong. -
The doctor has left, and left the decision to Emir and Savaş. Savaş has already decided and is willing to start with the treatment right away, in order not to lose any time, but Emir is not, not so fast. Emir makes clear to Savaş, that he has to think carefully again about the options and will decide in the best interest of Gülperi.

Emir gets in to the room of Gülperi, sees her laying there without any movement. He just worries about her that even if he can’t reach out to her, he’s willing to be with her. Even if she doesn’t talk or doesn’t see him, it’s fine for him, as long as he’s just next to her. He sees the misery in which Gülperi is in, that he remembers his recalls his meaningful conversations he had within today. Savaş telling him that Bekir is a murderer, Hasan Amca telling him, that Bekir could never do that because he loves his wife very much, and the kindness of a father asking about his daughter right away and doesn’t give any signs of a murder and lastly the doctor conforming that either they open that painful door or close it forever.
Emir is at the edge of his mind, where in one hand is the present and the other is the future while he sees the present in front of him.
- Again, Emir is in a situation where he wants to protect what’s his and his heart care about the most. The decision is left in his hands, even though no one has put it in there, like the first time, as he promised Hasan Amca, which he freely accepted. This time no one asked him to do anything and yet for his it’s his responsibility to take care of his Gülperi. Because his heart is the decider since the first day. And since then Emir leared that he can open his heart again and found the one to whom it belongs. Emir is more mature, stronger and willing to be the tree he became over the years for Gülperi too. His love and care for her are so deep that there is nothing which would hold him back of leaving her alone. He’s the tree who keeps everyone safe, that enters his world and Gülperi did not only enter his world but more likely she entered his heart, and won’t be leaving it so easily. -
A new day and the procedures have been made. Heading out to meet the lawyer, Emir has a little encounter with Yigit, who’s happiness disappeared within a second. Emir sees that Yigit is not doing well, that he asks him what’s bothering him and it’s no one else than his Peri Kizi whom he’s worried about. Worried and sad, he asks his father when his Peri Kizi will be fine again because he wants to spent some time with her again, read books and be next to her. Words which break Emir inside, seeing the closeness of Yigit to his Peri Kizi, that he assures him, that his Peri Kizi will be fine soon, she just needs some time and rest.
News which is Yigit happy to hear, as he informs his father that he always prays for her, to heal and come back. Emir encourage him to keep his prayers and gives him the hope he himself is holding to, which is that everything will be fine and be even better than it was before. Hope which keeps Yigit shine and hold on to his Peri Kizi rushing to bring her flowerers and take care of her.
Seeing Yigit his positive energy and his love for his Peri Kizi clams Emir’s heart that he keeps his words of hope in his mind and heart, and looking forward to it and the better future they want to have.
Yigit brought the flowers for his Peri Kizi who’s still asleep and locked up in her world of loneliness and pain. Yigit sees Gülperi, and his sadness became a hurtful sadness seeing her in front of him, next to him but not being able to reach out to her - like father like son! -. He gets closer to her, gently strokes her hair, willing to be close to her again. He asks her to finally wake up and look at the wonderful flowers he has brought her. But as he still doesn't receive any reaction from her, he tells her with his sad voice and little broken heart that she can continue to sleep if she needs to and that he will wait for her. One goodbye kiss for his Peri Kizi who is locked in her own world and Yigit leaves and closes the door he tried to open.
- It was very painful for me to see these scenes again and describe the pain and sadness of Yigit. His bond and closeness with Gülperi is so deep that he wants his mother to be back with him. He can't endure it to be left alone again without an mother, after finally founding one who gives him the care, the love, the safety, the closeness, the secure, the hope and the protection of a mother. I love the bond they share which is the perfect prove that you don’t need to be blood related in order to love or be loved as a child/parent. -
- As I already explained Yigit’s situation and his care, love and comfort regarding Gülperi in E488 I’ll add it at the end of the summary again for the ones who hasn’t read it yet! -
As positive as the day started for the Tarhun’s, it’s not that positive for Savaş after all, who received some interesting information and heads out immediately in a rush, which not even Baran can hold on to him.
Both Savas and Emir arrive at the same time at prison gate, one is furious about the current decision Emir made, the other calm and relaxed.
Savaş confronts Emir right away and repeats the words he told him before. That he doesn’t want him to change the past, which can’t be changed because there is no key to that door. I loved that emir met gulperi’s dad and it seems like he knows that gulperi will heal soon especially once she meets her dad. Her dad seems like a innocent man I believe he didn’t kill his wife and he was framed by his own brother and beyhan. Savas doesn’t want emir to dig deeper because beyhan is involved and he’s trying to prevent things in his head he thinks it’s best if gulperi doesn’t meet her dad.
