SO, I have just moved to NRW Germany and am stunned by the red tape involved in pursuing such a simple pass time. I'm an old age pensioner and a retired Policeman from England and have been fishing for over 60yrs. I am slowly getting to grips with the most basic German. The time and effort involved in simply going fishing legally is daunting and probably beyond me as I'm now getting quite old and have 80% disability. Is there no way to shorten and/or simplify the process of just going fishing in Germany. I fear I will be fishing in heaven long before I'm allowed to do so here in Germany!

There are some privately owned ponds which are filled with fish. You pay per kg of fish you caught yourself. You dont need a license. Kind of a solution but for me very far from having any real fishing experience. I am also a foreigner living in Germany and not just this one topic about fishing but i find this whole country pretty stupid and not livable in many ways. I would like to pack my bag, get on my motorcycle, find somewhere to camp and fish.. And even after i complete all this license crap i am not allowed to do that. Than why the fck i have a license... The more i am experience with living in Germany the more i dont like this place. Hopefully i can move to some other place.

Late to the party here, but my God I agree with you guys. So much stuff here is so complicated for really no reason. And if you talk to any German about these rules (not just for fishing btw), they will pull something out of their ass and try to explain how it “makes sense” or is “good for the environment”. It’s so aggravating. Eventually, all of this red tape and idiotic bureaucracy will bite them in the ass. If we live in a “free country” and “have the right to live as we see fit” like the Verfassung says, why can’t I grab my pole and just go fishing? It’s FISHING.

Its great information that u shared. I am also from Bayern Nürnberg and was searching for these information. From this blog i understood that fishing clubs are more expensive.. Do you know any place near Nürnberg who take classes in English?
