Bendigo Easter Festival Parade with Dai Gum Loong 2023

Traditional annual parade during the Bendigo Easter Festival. Held on Easter Sunday. Bendigo is a regional city in the state of Victoria in Australia.
The parade highlight is the iconic Bendigo dragon Dai Gum Loong.
Dai Gum Loong made his debut in the parade in 2019 where he took over from Sun Loong who had taken part in the Bendigo parade for 40 years. Sun Loong had in turn taken over from Loong in 1970. Loong had been in the Bendigo parade for 70 years. He was the first dragon in the first Bendigo Easter Parade in 1871. The fourth Bendigo dragon is Yar Loong. Chinese miners and merchants arrived in Bendigo in the 1850s. A long history.
Bendigo put on an awesome festival as usual.
After the parade, we walked past the food stalls at the festival and bought several regional produce. We were on our way to Mt Macedon next stop for the autumn leaves. Yes, it is autumn in April in the Southern Hemisphere. We didn’t have time to meander amongst the other Bendigo festival stalls and just kept walking in a straight line, stopping only at 3 stalls to buy regional produce from Bendigo, Kangaroo Flats and Geelong.
Someone with an eagle eye might have spotted a loaf of bread in the video. So what is the story with the bread? The answer is Eppalock Primary School sausage sizzle ran out of snags (sausages) and had loaves of bread left! 😃 I bought one loaf. Coincidentally, I also bought the Collins Creamed Honey and had this with the bread the next day!
This is the rare and special parade in 2019 where you can see the Bendigo dragons in the same parade.

Great performances by the lion dance troupes. Very entertaining, colourful and interesting.
