Kristen Over, Associate Professor at Northeastern Illinois University, provides an in-depth summary and analysis of John Milton's Paradise Lost.
Paradise Lost is a famous epic poem from 1667 that deals with the expulsion of the first humans, Adam and Eve, from the Garden of Eden after they commit the sin of eating from the forbidden Tree of Knowledge. We encounter God, Archangel Michael, Adam and Eve, Sin, and Death and Satan/Lucifer as well.
Paradise Lost is told by a third-person omniscient narrator, whom readers later learn is in fact the author, John Milton. Milton peppers his unrhymed, iambic pentameter with evocative symbolism, including the Scales of Justice, the Tree of Knowledge, and Adam's Wreath for Eve.

This is a lot more eloquently put than the overly sarcastic productions version, tho I do love that one
Apart from the obvious danger Milton put himself into prior to writing Paradise Lost, the biggest criticism of the work is that no writer before or since ever described the "glamour" of Evil more seductively.

Thank you so much you explained this very well. You helped me on my homework.
Great video, thank you. The bit about how it gained attention possibly because the way Milton wrote about Satans resistence to submission, drive and curiosity.

There are three Spirit in one God , it is like three (3) fire camp put together , it still make one fire 🔥 .
God is fire the Father , the son🔥and the Holy Spirit🔥One God of love , justice , fairness !!!
God proved his love toward us humanity by sending Jesus to shed his blood on the cross for the forgiveness of our DISOBEDIENCE , REBELLIONS , " SIN " !!!
The justice of God was accomplished by his only son Jesus-Christ and shed his blood when pierced by the Roman soldier (centurion)!!!
Like Moses time ( era ) where they killed , sacrificed animals for its blood to shed and be used for the
' FORGIVENESS "of their own SIN" but that last only a short time , they had to repeat with sacrificing of an other animal !!!
But Jesus blood :
The
(FORGIVENESS last for eternity )!!!
very interesting

Michael walks out the Garden of Eden with Adam. This is significant because it means that Michael is committed to Adam and Eve's meaningfulness.
Is there anyone here who knows the titles of the background songs? 🤔🤞
Anyone know how this links to John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men?
I remember making many connections at one time, when considering the works. What is the direction you are thinking? Is the abandoned farm Eden in it's fallen state? It became overrun as if the slanted and enchanted part took over once the garden and farm were left unattended. The brothers, Cain and Able? Adam's journey and conflict. It's been a long time but these ideas jump out at me.
National Theatre's Frankenstein led me here 🤔
We are good enough.
Wise enough to survive on our own
Good
It is interesting that you see Satan as the heroic tipology here, and you brought as an argument the fact that he is "brave and courageous with all the best lines. His resistance to submission...", while at 9:07 you mention that "Milton tries to make the point that God is carefull not to influence his creatures, but to leave their individual choices to them, even when he can see the outcome. He does this because he wants all his creatures to obey Him out of love, not because they are forced to." So, if God doesn't force anyone to do anything, how can we say that Satan is resistant to submission, when there is no submission in the first place. His resistance isn't against God, but against God's rules, which are built on love and truth, which means that Satan becomes full of hatred and lies. It doesn't seem to me that he fits in the Hero Archietype, but he tries to fit in the outlaw archietype. He comes with promises for a better world, a better rulement and freedom, but his biggest trick is to mask the fact that he is actually the Trickster, the one who lied and tried to decieve everyone so that he would make those loved by God to go against God (here is included me and you and every human).
Verry few is mentioned about the True Hero Archietype, the one who was ready to die for the sinner. He chose suffering and death so that those whom He loves would be able to live. He is the Son of God, and is the most underrated heroe of all times! And through him we can live again!
The most important part of the book is the ending. At least one other angel is present with the archangel Michael at the end, along with his flaming sword. Thus, the cherubim and the flaming sword that still guard the entrance to paradise in the book of Genesis. To be completely honest, it is the devil himself, and I never would have remembered this if it weren't for the band Ghost, that wants people to understand the ending.
Burden of choice and free will. You must choose the light.

During the war in heaven, Jehovah commented that Mephistopheles "understands everything that we are doing."
just ordered this book. ive got a feeling its gonna be a difficult read like moby dick. damn that book was a struggle for my modern english brain
The music is a bit much but great video.
The gate to heaven was built with Mendoza's love of Jehovah, it cannot be rebuilt.
My favorite part of the story is when Adam straight up choose to be with Eve even though, in a literary sense, Eve "died" after eating the fruit. The Eve now is not the wholesome, loving, and pure Eve from before but despite this Adam wanted to be with Eve even though its pointless because he's just chasing a ghost.
When seraphim came down on Lucifer's side, Gabrielle's suggestion that the Almighty fight Lucifer himself was rejected by Michael on the grounds there wasn't enough time. Gabrielle was the first angel to take flight in the war in heaven, and she went so fast that the demons were starspun around her.
Message redacted: I remember being instructed not to remember some of my relevant life experiences.
Michael felt that if he destroyed Lucifer, the irredeemable, outright, that Omeren, the demon from the Exorcist, would become enranged and attack the Almighty. He did not feel that the Almighty could survive a fight with Omeren. That was his fear. Omeren supported Lucifer, thinking that if Lucifer wants Alfina, hand her over.
Individual choice is the right choice.
We all know the difference between right and wrong, to treat other people how you want to be treated with love and respect.
WRONG
I totally agree, so Hitler's (individual choice) of the final solution was the right choice?
Stop romanticizing choice you idiot.
Ohhhhhh ohhhh

Sometimes, there is a light from heaven that shines on earth. Marigold figured out how to do this. It is a beam of free energy. She built the vanes on top of the Gate to Heaven.
Hey Daniel thanks for all your important information but can you please help me with Satan character in book 4 for my assignment
The gateway to heaven was built by the archangel Michael, but it was not built strong enough to withstand the power of the Christ.
What is up with that music
It's appropriate.

Meanwhile, the seven bodyguards of Jehovah, including Uriel, and, presumably the holy spirit, are held back. And 14 wives of Jehova with chariots. The 14 wives of Jehovah and Urd were in tears that they may have to take the field if the Almighty fell. The Almighty is the unnamed son of Jehova and Uria, who is the name of the rose. Uria was not in a chariot.
Great Madam, I like you with great respect, I am your Madam, thank you Madam.
Very good explanation do better
The only thing that Mephistopheles fears are lightning bolts.
Thank God we Catholics have the Divine Comedy. Haha
Dante's Inferno
In the bible, "Lord" as Jesus refers to him is Jehovah, and "God" is Mendoza. Mephistopheles is of the opinion, however, that God is really Gabrielle.
This shit is crazy
What immediately tripped the war in heaven was Lucifer's claim to have the ability to become an everlasting light. Jehova called the trumpet to war. He regarded Lucifer as hopelessly insane.
umm... why is satan + humans brown and Jesus, God + other angels are white?
It's just symbolic.

Why should women submit?
I do not agree.

Good question. Um, why should children submit to parents?
Instead of presenting yourself as so many of your ilk do, why not ask if there's a purpose in submitting?
As a victim........correction added.
This needs to be rephrased.
Why should people submit?
Submit to what exactly. That is the whole point.
"leave individual choices to them" "obey out of love" positions them right near the only thing he tells them not to do. You'll burn in hell if you don't worship me. lmao totally a lot of free will there.
If they were placed far away from the Tree of Knowledge, then how could they truly choose to obey or disobey God. God giving them a choice would be meaningless if they were not able to act on that choice.
Going to hell for not following God is something that people freely choose. God does not put in hell those who do not want to be there. God asks us to worship and be good like him. Anything contrary to that is an injustice, which leads to suffering. Hell is where those who choose evil can live their life of injustice. Heaven is where those who have made the choice to obey God and do good things can live a life of happiness with God.
Interesting that both God and his son are pale skin. Sata and his cohorts, as well as Adam-and-Eve are well... "colored".
Lets keep in mind here this story is symbolic; not to be taken literally. A myth to help make sense of the world inside & outside of you. I personally refuse to read that bullshit poem because it serves no beneficial purpose.
the music to this is ridiculous the script is overboard and this is more about Milton and the speaker's opinions rather than a thorough summary of the story. thanks for nothing.

"Problematic"? More SJW garbage.
Agreed. You should hear her rhapsodize on "Things Fall Apart" by Achebe.
@@peterbellini6102 I sat through her analysis of the first 12 chapters of that book. I couldn't take anymore of her railing against "toxic masculinity" and I got out before the whole "white man is evil" schtick took off.

It is a war to prevent rape. If you believe preserving the angels who won the war and their sanctity is more important than the will of the people, then you are anti-rape. Otherwise, you are pro-rape.
