True. A veteran is a citizen who risked their life to serve and protect this country, in some of the worst places and situations we can imagine. Give them what they need when they need it, and give it thankfully, without stripping their dignity or penalizing them for asking for it. SHAME! How dare the VA report them to a corrupt FBI just because they sought help through the system so that the corrupt agency/system can move in and strip their right to bear arms by taking their firearm likely their best friend while they were in a foxhole somewhere, trying to protect and serve US interests and stay alive. This administration seems Hell-bent on destroying all that is good in America. Our vets DESERVE better! Like a thankful helping hand that protects their rights and dignity. IMO, our vets are part of our national treasure and addressing their needs should be top priority, done with gratitude and respect.

Kennedy said "unless a judge has ruled them not capable". So the democrat is unwittingly presenting the same argument that Kennedy is. In his mind though, he knows that it's for EVERY vet that asks for financial help, not just the ones legally deemed incompetent.

I served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. Then sent to Camp Lejeune for 2 years. In the 1980's I served in the Army Nationl Guard as a medic during Desert Storm. I was hoping to retire, but due to the side effects of the poison water at Camp Lejeune I was honorably dischaged from both. I have had several problems due to the water, my wife (A CAPTAIN ) in the Marines at Camp Lejeune died from her side effects from Camp Lejeune. The Government STILL takes money form my social security to pay for my meds. I've been fighting this for a while. All I get is a runaround. Just letting you know. I'm disappointed in how this country takes care of its veterans. The Dallas VA is a teaching hospital. Students work on people. I had one Dr. walk out of the room when a student yelled at him. My wrist still isn't right!!

It's more to do with PTSD and the fact that they being reported for gun ownership sounds a bit off to me it's ok to have PTSD in the service but not as a civilian

How many times have we heard this used as an excuse to indirectly punish people. When people need help they don't need it in another six month they need it urgently!

That is by far the sneakiest most terrible thing I have heard for many years. These are men who served our country. Never seen anybody in government anywhere qualified to determine mental illness in a veteran. They have that backwards, as this man who argues against the law seems seriously to be mentally messed up in some way.

I can't handle it when people put ALL people with mental health issues in the same group as being dangerous! A lot of mental health issues have nothing to do with violence. I have bipolar disorder and am in my mid 60's and have NEVER thought to harm anyone!!! People who may be depressed may not ever think of hurting others. Leave the Veterans alone!! Didn't mind them being behind a gun when they served. The military issues one to each active soldier!

What is being discussed should be sent to the state to manage this. It’s just another ploy to get rid of the second amendment.
I am a 16 year Marine Corps Veteran who was assigned a fiduciary, because of my disability and it doesn't offend me to not be able to own a firearm. The clause they didn't mention is that I also lost my right to vote. Now that upsets me after giving most of my life in defense of this Country.
Absolutely a Judge must be the one to order a psych evaluation and determination on mental capacity. No one else has the oath or responsibility consequences as our Judges. Our Constitution must be protected. Thank you Senator Kennedy. Perhaps be very specific in the Bill re: the criteria for an evaluation of mental health and criteria in determining stability to make good decisions. Time is needed to evaluate. God bless us all.

I'm a Vet. I've used the mental facility at the VA. On a scale from 1 to 10 I was at a 1.5 level of needing help. It's been about 15 years since I've seen a psychologist. Do I even take a chance to go back to the mental wing to risk my gun rights?

It's such a broad term, they give the courts the ability to interpret it however they see fit. Hence all the activist judges we see being confirmed every other day, nominated by this illegitimate administration.
This administration, the Demoncraps, and RINOs in places of authority are _currently_ waging a cold war on the American people. It's been going on for at least a few years now and it's not gonna stop until people wake up and see the forest thru the trees. The majority of our government is actively against us, and fighting to undermine the Constitution and our core American values. Yet most people just sit around, complacent, so concerned with their own feelings and comfort that they are easily propagandized and tricked into believing this government gives a damn about any of us.

I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is the constitution guarantees due process. I also understand that due process is the primary function of the courts. If my understanding is correct, it would seem to me that the current law or bureaucratic rule would easily be deemed unconstitional. I realize democrats aren't fond of the constitution if it clashes with their feelings, so I would suggest rather than deal with the constant assault on the constition piecemeal by democrats that a law be past where any law passed which ultimately is deemed unconstutional that the politicians who voted for that law would to pay for All Expenses, incurred fighting against that law in court. I believe that would be a fair method of holding Congress accountable.
We owe these Veterans the loss of their constitutional rights. Gotta be a Democrat.
