In this how-to video series, our aim is to help you become an ANPR expert - someone who knows how to install an ANPR camera properly, in order to achieve the best results. High ANPR accuracy strongly depends on the ANPR camera position. We define three common types of installation: ✅ Overhead: The over-head camera position is typically used in highway and motorway applications. The typical camera position is in the middle of the lane above the road - vehicles pass by below these cameras that results in low distortion images. ✅ Lateral: The lateral position is typically used in access control, like gated parking, borders, stop-and-go tolling. In case of lateral camera position, the camera is installed at the roadside, not too far away from the vehicles’ license plates. ✅ Transversal: The transversal installation is typically used in cities and on roads, motorways and highways. Here the camera is mounted higher than the lateral position and tilted down to capture license plates. Please note that in this video we mention values which are only recommendations to obtain maximum performance and not strict limitations. In some environments, you may not have the opportunity to apply them exactly, but you can make sure to keep the position as close to these values as possible - so you can improve your ANPR results.
