In England in 1988 I knew an 85 year old lady who upon the passing of her husband immediately went out and bought the 5.0 version in white to drive 12 miles once a week to buy cat-food!
I still wonder if she did that because of the life insurance, or had he spent a lifetime holding her back?
Bless you Mrs T, you were a legend. 🇬🇧🧐

Indeed, She was an unstoppable force and as sharp as a tack! There are so many characters from this time I wish I had photographed, buy years before the camera-phone I would have had to bring a REAL camera to work and ask her to pose, which I KNOW Mrs Taylor would have loved, because in her mind she was still a forces sweetheart and still 21.
And you know what,...21 forever she will be. I have no idea what happened to the FILTHY pearl-white 928, because what I really loved about watching her car is that she NEVER washed it! This lady lived a life with two-fingers up at the world, and that is what we should ALL do. Respect ❤🇬🇧 @@rc8422

    • @nigelcarren

@@rc8422 All true! Here’s some background: I was well known in Northamptonshire back then as I had just opened a shop imaginatively called ‘Anything Repaired’, and Mrs Taylor was one of the many characterful customers it soon attracted!
I agree with you, I wish I too had a photo of the characters I met from this period, especially Mrs T and her cat (which had its own TV). But in a pre camera-phone age this would have meant asking her to pose in front of a real camera, which she would have loved, because in her mind she was still a 21 year-young Royal Air Force pin-up. She was as sharp as at tack and still knew how to make an entrance.
One point I didn’t mention about the brand new pearl-white Porsche was she NEVER washed it!
This lady stuck two fingers up to the world and we could all learn a lot from her, just maybe don’t wait until your 80’s to do it.
      Best wishes 🌞

What was the challenge in mastering the gearbox, specifically, as opposed to, maybe, its clutch? 50/50 weight distribution, incredibly stable at high speeds. Automatics had the transmission in the back! The way the doors locked/unlocked with a turn of a knob (power assisted). Headlight washers located on the front bumper! Also the amount of luggage space with the rear seats folded down was incredible. The car was a new take from Porsche

Do any of you recall when Road and Track ran an article on the Rabbit that was cut in half and given the guts of the 928? It was back in the mid 80’s. It stole souls.
I drove one in undergrad back in the 80’s. To this day it was one of my fondest moments behind a wheel. At the time my dad and I rebuilt a 1970 Stingray with a 454, Hedman headers, straight through side pipes, Edelbroek mani, and a torquer 2 Holley. Italian pistons and rods. Close to 800 wheel.
One was refined bliss and balance. One was carnage and fire.
I miss the cars of that era.
