that bassy midrange is big problem with these. sony ex 800st is much much better option for neutral midrange and bass is just awesome I would say the best it is stretching going to the depths you would not expect.
I dont know what they were thinking making the re 800 worst hifiman inear unless you dont care about neutral midrange at all.

you probably weren't aware of HiFiMan IEMs b/c their most popular model, the RE400, was released in late 2012, and they haven't released anything that captured a lot of people's attention since then. The RE800 was released in 2018 as an update to the RE400... why are they sending it out for review four years later?
It's kinda odd that they seem to be in a time warp (as though they sent you out a slide rule to review after calculators had already taken over the market), and haven't even bothered to supply a detachable cable. Beyond that, $149 just seems like they currently are not even aware of IEMs like Tanchjim Tanya, CCA CRA, Blon BL03, Tripowin Lea, all priced around $25 dollars... that are the true competition to the RE800... at $25 it might be competitive. $149 , even $75, is simply delusional. They should just put it out at $25 and move on to more current designs.
i gotta hand it to you though. you put a tremendous amount of effort into not trashing it at $150.
