  • The light adjustable lens is a premium presbyopia correcting lens implant that can be adjusted and customized using a non-surgical light treatment after implantation. Patients achieve far/mid and near vision with minimal nighttime halos. We will be using this lens for our premium cataract surgery patients and premium lens replacement patients who want to achieve the best quality of vision at all distances without glasses.
    I have no financial interest in any products discussed in this video.

    Thank you Shannon Wong, nice video. I learn alot of detail from it. Question though: I am very conservative, I know LAL is the best at the moment. But I still want to go one eye at a time, just in case if I will face unexpected unpleasant result, then I still have another eye. But, sounds like LAL prefer have both eyes done same time in order to adjust near and far vision. Anyone with experience can help me out if I am just over worried. Plus, I had Lasik on both eyes 26 years ago. I always thought if my cornea had been cut before, it is not good to be operated again. I am researching these days before this coming up LAL surgery. Thanks all

    I have been waiting for a review of the LAL hoping with fingers crossed it could be a choice for me but I am hearing that I would need to have a LAL in both eyes? I have had a Pan Optic for 2 years in my dominate eye but never had the other eye corrected because of halos and glare. Also need a lot more light to see really good, however in some situations in brightly lit venues or certain stores the brightness/ glare and it feels overwhelming and it takes me a couple minutes to refocus my brain. I don’t regret getting the Pan Optic because I had very bad vision 8.50 and the fact that I can see is pretty amazing.

    I have my left dominant eye with the Vivity, and my right eye with PanOptic last August 2023. I am very happy with the outcome. I can see all distances with clear vision. I am on the computer more than 8 hours M-F. Driving at night with minimal halos, and I got used to it after couple of months, now it doesn't bother me. 2 things I don't like is, my eyes get dry and I use eye drop very often, like every hour. Another thing is I can't see clear in the dark. But very happy overall. I am glad that no more reading glasses.

    • @alisoylu4034
      @alisoylu4034 5 місяців тому

      Dry eye is caused by the faco energy applied to divide the lens into pieces. Unfortunately it also kills some amount of the endotel cells which is very essential for stabilizing the liquid inside the eye. The reason you couldn't see clear in dark is because of the mentality of the lens: it takes some visual acuity from your dar distance and give it to mid distance. Which means steal light from far distance and add it to mid distance.

    My concern with LAL is adjusting for people with early PCO. Also is the material durable? Glistening etc.

    I have cataracts, and need surgery. I'm at the point of deciding which lens to use. It sounds like I would be a good candidate for the LAL - I've been used to having rather different sight in each eye for many years. Is this a decision I make, or will my doctor guide me to what is a best fit for my eyes and lifestyle?

    Hello everyone, well had both my eyes done with the light adjustable lens, left eye on 8/23 and right eye on 8/30…. It’s hard to find words to tell you guys how amazing my vision is right now and the day after surgery, I have perfect distance vision like I’ve never seen before… driving at night two days after surgery, everything was crystal clear, no crazy lights coming at me halo’s,stars etc lol..after I healed for three weeks we’re going to be making some adjustments to my near vision a little, my near vision is fairly well, but slightly blurry, The doctor can change my vision with a light treatment after I heal, I’ll try the adjustment for a week and if I’m happy the doctor can lock it in to make it permanent..I’m sooo happy my doctor recommended the light adjustable lens..!!! I’ll update you guys after the adjustments to my vision, you do have to wear special UV protection glasses till your lock-in treatment, it’s a small price for almost perfect vision… Thks everyone

      I recently had LAL lens in June 2023. I have monovision. Right eye distance and left eye reading
      Neither eye is optimal and I need glasses for distance and near
      Computer vision is ok but the keyboard is blurry. I filled a progressive lens Varilix comfort and the glasses are not right. My eye surgeon insists the prescription is correct and the glasses are correct
      I am not satisfied and I will need glasses for driving and computer
      So disgusted with this result

    So in the past year I had both my eyes done with the Pan optics multi focal lens, and I do see fantastically intermediate and up close and I do suffer some distance lost in contrast, but my near vision is insanely good but the nighttime halos for me are at the utmost extreme almost blinding with the headlights and the halos you cannot even see the vehicle just looks like 2 bright Shields and that's on most every headlight and street light Front porch lights landscape lights etc I'm waiting to get some feedback on this LAL, if this is what it sounds like im going to removed theses lenses and replaced with this light adjustable lens.

    What are the symptoms of a defective lens? I am post op 8- 7 weeks bilateral LAL. Left eye done first, R eye a week later. I have severe halo effect to my R eye and am not sure what is causing it. I've had two adjustment to the R and one to the L. I'm very worried that my R lens may be defective because of the starburst side effect. LAL has less risk of this complication.
    I had lasix 35 yrs ago and this lens seems to offer the best outcome for me: not a true monovision, less chance of starburst side effect and less chance of needing glasses thereafter. Thus far, I'm not having the best outcome... I understand once the lenses are "locked", they become harder and more challenging to remove. My lenses aren't "locked" yet. If a lens is defective, shouldn't it be removed before being locked in?

    I had LAL Nov 2022, the extra time for adjustments and lock in took 2 months due to unacceptable vision in one eye. Still today, I am not satisfied with my vision but apparently there isn’t anything that can be done. Background - I had RK in both eyes in 1996, 4 cuts in left eye and 7 in the right. During my assessment, I was told there were two options, standard lenses or LAL, nothing else. In addition, was told I would never need glasses again, not the case. I need readers for reading, computer work, using my cell phone and even to see the food on my plate clearly. Not the results based on expectations set by my doctor.

    • @shariward7733
      @shariward7733 10 місяців тому

      Can I ask the cost? I also have had RK 8 cuts both eyes. Have had my left eye done 2021 and ended up getting a piggyback lens and now the dr I saw today said LAL my best bet at 4,500 not covered by insurance. Plus wearing the glasses after surgery until lens lockes seems like a lot to deal with.
      I'm feeling uneasy about especially for cost and possibly not better vision.

    The Light Adjustable Lens is at the moment the best possible lens. It it a must for people who had corneal refractive surgery in the past (LASIK-PRK-RK radial keratotomy) and for extreme dense cataracts that don't permit any reading on the optical biometer (ex IOLMaster700). Expect to pay for the extra 3-5 adjustment visits. Consider it as a monofocal that hits the desired target every time. It comes with a ''light setting'' operated on the machine during the adjustment session that can give some EDOF extended depth of focus but it's not a multifocal (ex Panoptix) nor an pure EDOF (ex Vivity).

    I had cataract surgery in right eye ten days ago with LAL I have to say that had I known ahead of time how difficult it would be post op I would have done something else. It's disheartening to know after my left eye is done on 10/30 that the first adjustment cannot be made until 11/17. Right now I have a contact lens in my left eye which gives me distance vision but I cannot read at all. I am wearing the RX glasses with a pair of men's reading glasses +275 over them and still cannot read the newspaper or do anything like knitting. I have been unable to go to work for the past ten days. I have the aspect on computer display on the largest text size and it's still difficult to read with +275 glasses. I cannot read anything on my mobile phone. Between this and the considerable expense I feel I should have done something else. Hoping to be proven wrong and "this too shall pass" and I will join all the others who are so happy with their choice!

    • @krapekk
      @krapekk 11 місяців тому +2

      Insurance will not cover the cost of this lens as it's considered a premium lens. It may cover mono-focal lens. I was quoted $4,500 per lens in Phoenix, Arizona, so $9,000 total plus the cost of surgery (if not covered by insurance). Surgery with insurance would have been about $2,000 per eye. I don't know if this includes all the follow ups and the adjustments. I forgot to ask. I also have significant PCO and was told that I'll not see any better after the lens exchange until I get the YAG procedure done a couple of months later. I was quoted an approximate $350 for the YAG without insurance.
