Fair warning: Mamamoo is one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop. As moomoos (MMM fans) like to say, Once you Wheein you can't Whee-out! Notes about the members and their current activities:
Solar: leader, crackhead #1, versatile, endlessly surprising. Can make you cry on a ballad or blow the doors off with her voice.
Moonbyul - Most songwriting credits of any girl group member (MMM has the most songwriting credits of any girl group in kpop history.). Can rap over any beat and is one of the best gg rappers but she's also an excellent singer. Won a multi-round singing competition tv show between 8 very talented gg rappers.
Wheein - The backbone of MMM's vocal line. Combines pop and r&b in her solo stuff and often does features & collabs with other artists. Received an award as one of Korea's best OST singers.
Hwasa - Aka The Fatal Maknae because she makes everything she sings sound sexy. Highly successful solo career, but that's true of all the members. MMM was the first group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group was still active as a unit.
After Illella MMM went on tour in Asia, the Pacific Islands and the US, where they joined TLC, Destiny's Child and the Spice Girls as the only girl groups to sell over 70K tickets on their debut US tour. Since returning to Korea in June 2023 they've been concentrating on solo and subunit projects. Moonbyul & Wheein are currently on their debut solo world tours. Wheein is doing 8 shows in the US during the next 2 weeks and I'll see her in Brooklyn on June 4. Hwasa has been doing a series of fanmeets & performances for her fans in Korea & East Asia. Solar just wrapped up promotions for her new album and will be doing solo concerts in Seoul on June 1 & 2 and the word is that she'll also go on a solo world tour afterwards.

Hard thing about mamamoo, is that it’s hard to pick a song. Maybe debut song - Mr ambiguious, Followed by decalcomanie and egotistic.

The great thing about Mamamoo is that they are fantastic as a group, and each member is also excellent as a soloist!
For Mamamoo as a whole, I recommend checking out their Killing Voice (which they were the first group to do! previously the program had only done Killing Verse for rappers); the Killing Voice shows their incredible live vocals and is a nice taster of several of their best songs. But if you prefer to check out just MVs instead, I recommend Wind Flower, Egotistic, and Dingga.
For them as soloists, I recommend: Honey and Spit It Out for Solar, Lunatic, Absence, and Eclipse for Moonbyul, Watercolor, Make Me Happy, and Easy for Whee In, and Maria, I'm a B, and Twit for Hwasa.
Also, since Whee In and Hwasa both left the company Mamamoo was originally from (although they are still part of the Mamamoo group), Solar and Moonbyul have a subunit called Mamamoo+. I recommend their songs Chico Malo (Aniri ver.), Save Me, and Dangdang.
Can absolutely 100% second the killing voice performance ... it underlines why Mamamoo is the singular most underrated korean band (I refuse to call them k-pop, because they is nothing pop about them ... they are dancing to their own beat!)
Congrats on discovering Mamamoo, the undisputed vocal queens of kpop (in the world imo).
Before getting into more of their videos I recommend getting to know the members by watching one of these 3 excellent guides to Mamamoo. Introducing Mamamoo part 1 & 2 by Purple Hawke, Guide To Mamamoo part 1 & 2 by MOOYT and Why Mamamoo Is The Most Underrated Kpop Group by Nahiseokie.
Then I recommend watching their amazing live vocals on their Killing Voice medley, Immortal Songs medley and I Miss You from the competition show Queendom.
Lastly, I recommend reacting to these 3 songs. Decalcomanie, Starry Night and Egotistic.
The conceit behind "HIP" is "What would the members of Mamamoo be if they weren't Mamamoo?" We are given peeks into three alternate universes, 1st Universe of course being the one we know, where they are MMM. Solar is a rebellious princess, a champion boxer, and a rock star (fronting a band composed of drag queens!). Moonbyul is a film director, record company CEO, and choreographer. Wheein is an activist, a bohemian wanderer, or a polished Manhattan artist. Hwasa is a loving but undomesticated single mom, the President of SK (and even so getting criticized for clothing choices at the airport), and a torch singer (the sparkly outfit). All of there characters, you note, challenge traditional womanhood in some way or another.
We all agree that MAMAMOO are different than other groups, they have their own vibes ❤

Keep reacting to mamamoo and you will discover why they are called the vocal queens of kpop, especially when you react to the works of art that are their ballads. Mamamoo is a group where all its members are extremely talented, they can all sing, rap, dance, write, compose and play instruments, in fact it is the female group with the most credits in the history of kpop with more than 200 songs, Moonbyul being the most credited female idol of all time with 120 songs under her name so far. And yes Moonbyul is one of the best female rappers known for being able to write and rap in any musical genre or in any rhythm and to prove this there is the entire Mamamoo discography, but she is also an excellent vocalist.
As you said, they are not a typical K-pop idol group but they have they have their own genre with powerful vocals.
I felt the same way you did when I heard Wheein's voice for the first time. For me she continues to be the non plus ultra when it comes to singing. Her voice feels like magic to my ears ❤🦋❤
Moonbyul is an iconic rapper and unique vocalist. I recommend checking out the MV for her solo song eclipse(hard hitting rap) and her song Absence is also a good blend of rap and vocals

Don't feel like you "have" to pick a bias ("because that's what kpop fans are _supposed_ to do!"), all four are so amazingly talented it becomes impossible to pick. Trust that the rest of us out here in "the radish farm" understand completely! Hwasa doesn't always to "teh seksy stuph"...when she doesn't, Solar steps up ;) You'll see.

To be honest you cant ask a Moomoo for just three songs =). I'd recommend checking out a couple medleys they do. 1. Killing Voice make sure you have subtitles on, and Immortal Medley. from there you will hear some shorter versions of a few of their songs then you can go deeper =). Immortal Medley will show you some of their stage presence. be careful, once you dive in you wont ever want to leave! =)

there are some great reco in the comments. maybe after youve checked out their work as a group, its definitely worth checking out solos from moonbyul and wheein since you're interested. moonbyul is really great at rapping, but shes also a great vocalist too. i'd recommend her 6equence album and her recent one Starlit of muse which explores diff genre and showcases her vocal capabilities and artistic view in music. for wheein, the Whee album is i;'d say easy listening that expresses her delicate voice and the the latest one which is IN The Mood album is more on RnB, its really a music production heaven. its really not an exaggeration to say both artists (actually all of mamamoo members) produces no skip album.. well relatively, depends on your music taste.

First of all, I'm so happy to see someone discover Mamamoo... even after a decade I don't get tired of their songs and of all the MVs I don't think they have a bad song. I would love for you to go back to their debut Mr. Ambiguous, then maybe Piano Man as it stays in a similar style, and perhaps Decalcomanie (make sure it's the actual MV and not the dance version as some people confuse the two in reactions). Otherwise what can I say, it's hard to choose a bias, they're all skilled at everything. I don't know if you like guides but if you do the Mamamoo Guide by Purple Hawke is pretty decent at explaining the group with a lot of random facts. A must once you know enough of their songs is going to be their Killing Voice and the Immortal Medley, two incredible videos that showcase their skills.

My favorite Mamamoo's song I think most MooMoos would agree with me is Wind Flower. Décalcomanie also my favorite song from Mamamoo because not anyone can perform this song, even few times Solar mentioned about it especially when she's a judge in a survival show. Mamamoo has been releasing few CF and my favorite is of coz 'Wanna Be Myself' and it's a collaboration with athletic brand Andar. Still in a topic about CF, Mamamoo also partner up with mobile game 'Icarus M' and we got 'Sky Sky'. The song very much cringing, because it's a total opposite with what makes Mamamoo, Mamamoo. But after few times listening to it, I kinda like it. Only Mamamoo can make any songs fits for them and for MooMoos to enjoy and appreciate their works..
