Jim, nice job! To the viewer who is winding his line, try a swivel in front of the popper. I use a normal large gape hook, clean it with rubbing alcohol, and glue the hook into the cork using two part epoxy. None of my corks have started spinning on the hook yet. I also fill the cork slit with epoxy, and file down any glue squeeze out. Love it when a pike or bass attack a popper!
Thanks for all the kind words! Your right a bottle cork is enough , but you might want to sober up before you start carving a popper out of it. Thanks for your support! Jim
Thanks I didn't think of that at the time but now I will remember it. I do use the foam bodies, your right they are much easier to work with. Did you watch my video, Jims Swimming Foam Fly, I make it with scrap foam from cutting the cylnder. Works great just keep stripping it and it stays down and swims.
Jim here's a trick you may be able to use: put hackle pliers on your legs and pull them forward or let them hang down to keep the legs out of your way when you spin on your hackles and when you whip finish. I know it helps me when I do this. I make my popper bodies from foam because it's a bit easier to work with than cork. I have used both, You don't have to coat the foam bodies and they are more like a real bug when a fish bites down, not hard like the cork, may make a difference. Great tie!
No worries! If it works for you it works! I've been using the uv epoxy on styro and plastic popper bodies, maybe I'm just lazy. The uv coating looks great and adds a little flash. I've been coating the head in head cement, sprinkling on glitter while it's wet to get some more flash. Then, cover the whole head in uv epoxy, durable and flashy!
I had the popper body for years, I can't reall say where they ame from. Any online shop will have them. I don't think the price would be much different.
Tying the tail and legs in first is not a bad idea it should give you more material for the cork to grip too. Here is the possible drawbacks when you tie in the tail first you are going to have to make the slice in the cork bottom larger, to ba able to get the cork on. If I use foam for popper heads It will be easier to go over that tail material.
Where did you get your cork popper bodies? I am learning the ing process. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skills. I have subscribed to your channel.
Another idea for filling in the gap in the cork or a hard styrofoam body would be to use ClearCureGoo or another UV epoxy. Fill it in, hit it with the light, done!
Jim, Love your videos. there great. I have been having trouble with my poppers when fly fishing them due to the leader winding up badly and causing knots. I have been told that this is due to the rubber legs. what are your thoughts about this. could it be the legs causing it to wind up when moving through the air?
The eyes are usually about 4mm on a size 2 hook when you get the corks you'll know what size you need. I got the eyes with a on-line search or Ebay. You can get them at a pretty good price if you look around. Fly tying materials 3d eyes.
Is that the actual brand "Super Glue" , or some other brand. I have never seen Super Glue in a big bottle like that with a brush in it. Seems much easier to use than those little tubes. Where did you buy it? Thanks.
+brian heidel seems like I remember Elmer's selling a water proof super glue in a similar bottle with a brush applicator. I used to get it at Hobby Lobby or Michael's a few years ago. I think Zap-a Gap has come out with a similar product for fly tyers...but don't quote me on that.
When I made this I was using Loon UV Fly Finish good stuff, but you need to top coat it. I used Sally Hansons Hard as Nails. I use Deer Creek UV Resin now either will work just as well.
Thanks Jim. I’m new to tying and frustrated with using cork for poppers. Your technique helped a lot! Great looking bass popper. Thanks again.
Glad to help
Thank you for posting. It was just what I was looking for. Your video is still helping others. Thank you.
Thank you
That looks Alsome!!.. Build to last too!!!... Thanks for Sharing that with us !!!
Time consuming but worth it.

Just getting started tyeing. That is sweet. I hope to get there someday. Very nice
You can do it!

I have tried that but filling it with the toothpick works best for me. The UV coating goes over the finished popper.
Thanks
Jim
Thank you, Mr. Misiura. Beautiful lure, and I understand your English.
Awesome popper...Great video.

Very nice popper, I'm going to make some, however, ...I think I'll tie on the tail and hackle, before attaching the cork body and legs.

Sorry, I've had them so long I couldn't tell you where they came from.
Thanks for the support. It's a pleasure to help.

Great video. I was wondering how do bass like that particular color?
This hot color is pretty good add that to the movement and it's a very good pattern.
Great video, where do you get your cork popper bodies?
Beautiful lure,
what size 3D eyes and hook are you using. Also, where do you get them.

Would it be easier to put the legs in last? Dont know just asking looks like they were in the way while wrapping.
Beautiful!
Thanks

can u make video how to make Cork Popper creating from scratch, sanding the shape etc...by the way, did you use a cork wine or...?

welcome@@Legilimens-pn9wx
Foarte mișto😀😁😃
That is cool
Have you ever cut your own cork?
+Chris Gress No I haven't
i like, jim beautiful popper
That would work too!
great video What was the UV cure & top coat?
When I made this I was using Loon UV Fly Finish good stuff, but you need to top coat it. I used Sally Hansons Hard as Nails. I use Deer Creek UV Resin now either will work just as well.
A bottle cork is enough. At first you drink, and later you work with the popper.
Awesome!
