This is cool! I like the integrated look but I can’t lie not a huge fan of the software look that displays the information.
same here, reminds me of the early early early days of the Model S
Exactly. It looks like something the other OEMs make for their current infotainment systems... not up to the Tesla UI standards
@@Dubitz It's better than no cluster at all 🤷🏻♂️
@@Superman-xr1oh I disagree: a. I do not need any cluster, b. the software is not on Tesla level c. discrepancy will grow with updates by Tesla d. the connection between the two parts looks tacky, mainly be ause it is also white between the two black parts...
@@tesla-spectre I disagree.
Good on you Kim for doing it yourself rather than filming someone installing it for you.
My impression is that because it plugs into the display computer it is only a Tesla software update away from being broken. You are then relying on the vendor to update their firmware to get it working again. For that reason, I wish Tesla would allow certified aftermarket accessories. Or even produce them. This display would be better if it showed navigation instructions or replicated the “side camera when indicating” display. That would require Tesla software input though. I don’t believe these should be available as an assembly line option, because that just complicates production and adds cost.
But autonomous drive is still at least 5 years away so Tesla could provide itself another revenue stream by doing service centre installation of certified products like instrument clusters, HUDs and power frunks. (I don’t do Twitter so can’t suggest it to Mr Musk.)
I am in a RHDrive country so this instrument cluster isn’t available. I have a HUD that sits on the dash instead and provides basic info like speed, drive mode, battery%, etc. I had got used to looking at the centre display for speed but quickly reverted after installing the HUD. It only cost a tenth as much as the cluster and doesn’t block the airflow.
Very cool. I would never do it to my model 3. I really like the blank area. I don’t need anything but speed which I like the placement of on the center screen. But for those that want this it looks great.
Agree. I'm also concerned with what it will do to the airflow of the AC. Seems that it would eliminate any chance of it blowing directly on you, which I prefer during hot summer days.
Pry in and out, it’s like lego.
That's super cool. Wonder if they could do a heads up display as well.
a display projected to the windshield would be more appropriate than something sticking out of the minimalistic design of the front interior. good comment
That makes the car look so much better and in my opinion safer. I could drive one with that aftermarket cluster installed. Thanks!
I like being able to control the driver side air vent, also, it doesn’t allow you to get rid of the car visualization on the main display, so you’re not regaining any screen real estate that Model S/X has.
I feel like this was a missed opportunity to be more innovative, this could’ve been a HUD implementation, while maintaining an unobstructed air vent.
Hands down the cleanest, most integrated instrument cluster in the market. I've always been p!ssed off that my MY and my wife's M3 do not have them from factory. This really peaks my interest. Thanks for sharing.
Now I'm willing to buy a model 3 or Y if this is available because I don't like not having a display in front of the steering wheel. Awesome job kim. Looks great
Don’t let that deter you!!! The cars are wonderful and clutter free. I know it’s a bit “un American” to NOT have a bunch of junk 🚮and bells 🔔 and whistles 💨… believe me - it’s an AWESOME CAR ! You wont miss the heads up display!
Well, Tesla just raised the prices of their cars yet again. And with the interest rates climbing, a Tesla will cost you a whole lot more.
You should try driving a 3 or Y for several days. I don't miss the extra dashboard at all and have no problem using the central display. The speed and map are HIGHLY and QUICKLY visible and right next to the line of sight.
Yep, it a positive addition for sure .🇬🇧👍
It's not a big deal
Thank you Kim for bring it to my attention that that is a option.
0:30 *Michael Scott: NOOOOOO, NOOOO GOD NOOO*. I LOVE the missing cluster 🤩.
Looking good but I would rather see a integrated Heads-up display as that will maintain the minimalist look of the car and give all the necessary information you need.
I totally agree with you and I would pay good money for an HUD. All I really want is the directions displayed in front of me.
I would prefer this and a HUD.
This is pretty good! Might finally pick one of these. I wish you expanded more on the functionality of the screen in your video
Great video Kim, I definitely think that tesla should give it as an option . Kinda found myself smiling with the joy of your accomplishment 😊
How does a company build such a great product physically, and then massively fail on the UI?
This literally happens when you cheap out and make the programmer do the UX design
Xiaomi is the same. Nice hardware and terrible software.
“Great product physically”?
Chinese crap
Literally noped out after seeing the ui
This is gonna sell out quick. I bought mine the first hour this video was released.
Perfect addon. When I test drove the model Y I found it difficult to read the panel because I was wearing distance glasses. This will take care of that problem
That’s actually pretty cool
An amazingly designed product! Kudos to the company! 👍👏👏👏
This has been around a while from other companies, I had it and loved the look but at the time tesla had just done a firmware update andthe aftermarket dash was very buggy as a result. Telsa firmware updates can effect the dash and you may be stuck waiting on the aftermarket dash to get an update its a huge downside.
Also there have been reports of Tesla blaming aftermarket parts for anything and everything in a warranty claim. Unlike the traditional automakers.
This is the display I've been waiting for. Just wish they made it with the same wood trim dashboard.
They do. I believe he talks about it near the beginning.
Great video and very cool and useful feature to have! Just wish the UI was a little more blended with the Telsa one, but other than, I guess something is better than nothing haha. Well done on the DIY part, so brave!
yayyyy Kim. great job girl! I can imagine how you felt pulling and yanking stuff... its like, WHAT THE HELL DID I BREAK!!!!?? lol
love it. if you end up loving it, im going to get it.
7:52 that 3rd gen Toyota 4Runner looks 🔥 😂 😆
Great video. Too bad not all of us can have the expert in person help from Tsportline! It would have been helpful to talk about the cost of the smart cluster in the video but the link to Tsportline should help. Thanks again for the video.
Awesome video! Thanks for the step by step! The lack of an instrument cluster is what was keeping me from considering a Model Y.
This looks very professional, personally I like the model 3 as it is, but if someone wants an extra display this one looks impressive.
If Tesla had offered this as an option, imagine how many would have bought it, even at $2000. Would have brought them dozens or hunderds of milllions by now. Just for making the part they SHOULD ALWAYS have had in the car.
Let alone a HUD.
If the customer wants it, it's blacklisted by Tesla.
I agree, the people want a Cybertruck but where is it? Let's all say we don't want it, like reverse psychology on a 4 year old. Then maybe they'll consider producing it quicker. 😁
Hmm...a Tesla Mechanic, too? Multiple skillsets!
Thanks Kim for sharing. Would love to see a follow up video after you have used it for a bit.
You're pretty handy -and brave, Kim! Now I want to see you install a TorkLift tow hitch! 😉 I want to see more of your reactions when driving and using that binnacle. I don't think I would do the modification, for several reasons. I've adjusted just fine to my Model 3's screen by now; I would want a "wood" piece to match the original; I would prefer a heads up display if I really wanted to have readouts in front of me; and… I would want the binnacle to imitate the "blind spot" round camera displays now in the Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5. They are much better than Tesla's solution, IMHO. But at least the battery has a green color in your new binnacle -like we've wanted Tesla to restore on its display for ages!
Very nice addition.
Not for me, I am disabled, but it looks like most people can do this if you relax and just take your time
You're an excellent student, Kim! A real trooper, too.
I need a silver Model 3, looks so good!
Thanks for asking the warranty question. That’s always my concern about this type of thing. 😮
I love Lego´s, now i know why Tesla is comming soon to our home;) Nice video thanks!
it makes a huge difference Kim I think too, I got a 22 model 3 an this exact display I got installed on mine, man it looks so OEM they could have easily put in a middle display at the factory.. but awesome video it helped my one installer out!!! 😄😎💯👍🏼
That is why some of us people do not do these kind of installations. We are always afraid of breaking something and have to have Tesla fix our mistakes.
I may get something like this in the future, but I just got my 2023 Model Y LR a couple weeks ago. So I am also hesitant in tearing my new Tesla apart.
Thanks for the video though. Take care.
I always thought I would miss the display behind the wheel. After a year I don't even notice now the only bit you use is the speedo. Looks good though.
After 8 months I don't notice the display behind the wheel either. This is cool, but I don't know that I need it.
Should be included in all factory made Tesla models but with touch screen.
That IS so neat i have the Hannshow on my M3 and this is SUPERIOR.
This is so OEM.💗
I have had mine 1 year but also have the swivel mount. Glad i came across you site pro video.
Thanks ATB DSB DSB3T 🌎🌐💚🙏
Just need this to get this one produced in RHD too - (one advantage of the Hannshow) - PLEASE PRODUCE FOR RHD markets too
Before I owned a M3P I couldn’t imagine driving without one of these. Now shortly after owning my 22 I realize I couldn’t imagine driving with one. 😂. It’s a unique experience not having the dash. However this is a cool product
Thanks. I've looked into this guy before. Have they added indicators for when auto pilot wants you to grab the wheel. Also, I assume it doesn't bother the FSD beta.
This is nice, I bought it for my wife. ***This install has huge flaw!*** Well the product itself works very well and is nicely built. *****It completely blocks the AC vents***** from the driver side. The flow of air is now hitting the rear of the instrument cluster. You can attempt to move it up or and increase fans a little higher and might help But....***** NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!!***** Pretty upsetting, We will know in the summer if it's worth keeping or not. Had anyone mentioned this in some video? I have not found any, I think we would have waited a little longer. Only time will tell weather it's worth keeping or not. I will update everyone some weeks or months down the road.
do you have a verdict
Now someday if i get a Cybertruck.. need that factory tesla dash board display in from front of me.
Excellent job Kim…..
I missed the silver paint. Unfortunately they discontinued it before I bought my Tesla. But I’ll have the look when I finally get my CyberTruck 😀
Could you guys do a video showing what the screen looks like while driving at day/night?
Have your ordered your Cyber truck??!!! I can’t wait to see your review. Love 💕 your content! This looks easy enough. Sent the videos to my hubby. We have a M3
SRP and MYLR and Cybertruck on order 😍
Yes. First day reservation!
I guarantee you that Tesla will raise the price of everyone's Cybertruck reservation. They did that with my Starlink reservation, so I cancelled it. And I will cancel my Cybertruck as well if they do that to me again.
@@Resist4 May I ask “about” how much your Cybertruck is/was? I have no clue as to how much it will cost. I’m thinking same or a bit more than a model X 😳😆
@@natnathutchins Depends on the configuration. When I ordered there were 3, $40k to $80k. But there may be a 4th version coming with a motor on each wheel.
$800?! I know that’s on par with others but the graphics etc are a bit outdated. Also, in Tennessee and I’m sure in Georgia you need that AC to hit your face. How much did it block the vents?
I came to ask about the air flow too and I'm also in Tennessee! 😂
@@xplmr1 this is my first summer in Tennessee. I refuse to give up any AC. Hahaha
To be fair, if you pre cooled your car before getting into it then you wouldn't need the air blowing directly into your face. But I'm not really a fan of how Tesla did the vents on the Model 3/Y because it limits the air control. You can't close the passenger vents for more air to the driver when no one else but you is in the car, like with other vehicles.
@@Resist4 I’m an AC hog. I just redirected my passengers vent to me. 🤣🤣
@@vec306 That works too. :)
They are going to sell
sooo many of these!
Just checked the link to tsportline. It is slightly confusing only because in Kim's video, the unit is referred to as an 'instrument panel" and as a "smart cluster" but in tsportline's web page, it is referred to as the "MSX Driver View Dash". It might be better to be consistent with the terminology. Still a great video.
That was definitely a miss by Tsportline.
Art, great feedback - we just added tags to our listing on the site for both instrument panel and smart cluster!!! search will work now :)
👏 👏 👏
Didn’t have no idea of delivery of charging mind blowing
🤣🤣Kim Rebuilds.
I would love to see someone come up with an easier solution where you could plug into the Tesla instrument cluster with a Bluetooth or wifi transmitter that could talk to a smart phone. That way one could use one of their old smart phones with a mag charging base to do something similar. All I want to see is the speed and tire pressure. Looks nice but with the wood trim on the doors I’m not sure how good it will look.
Great job Kim! I always felt that the missing gauge cluster was something missing from the Tesla Vehicles (3/Y). The long range and performance variants should definitely have them from the factory or at least an option. The standard range lower cost variants can maybe do without, but Tesla customers really need better choice. Hopefully Tesla will take this feedback seriously.
Customers loved it on S and X so it had to go.
Imagine Tesla had just offered a proper one as a $2000 option to show that they did all to make the Model 3 "affordable" (it's not). And another $2000 option to get a wagon version (SO MANY wagon sales around the globe), you can't have that. That would be practible, people would like that, and they like that about their petrol cars right now. So, just a hard no. We'll pretend it's too expensive with the tooling, even though the whole world pays extra for a wagon anyway, many brands have discontinued their sedans even.
Kim Rebuilds 😎👍
Thanks for sharing.
Tbh, the only thing I need is a heads up display will be good enuf. That gives me speed, navigation arrow, range and blindspot illumination
Wow looks great well done Kim
Just so sad this doesnt come for RHD.... Great video!
Thanks Kim and T-Sportline! I enjoyed seeing how the dashboard goes into the car.
Honestly I kind of like having the tire pressures permanently visible, etc. What other info can the new display show? Is what it shows configurable?
To answer my own question, judging by the T-Sportline web site, you can't configure specific things to show on the display, but in principle that could come from a future software update. Don't know that it will though.
Yes that’s what I hate about the model 3 with no center console. Big mistake Elon because robotaxi won’t happen
It was never really about the robotaxi, it was about keeping manufacturing costs down.
Kim no u need to call it "Kim mods your tesla" lol You team up with someone to use their space. It will be a reboot of MTV's Pump my ride.
Tesla should provide options if customers want direct headsup or dashboard display
Holy smokes, this has to be one of the funnest Tesla videos I’ve watched. What a great product. So simple/straight forward to install, yet so very functional and (I don’t believe) Kim even broke a nail! Excellent post, thank you. First question in my mind: For those of us with M3s old enough to not have the dash cam memory stick connection in the glove box (a neat security feature), might there be a way to have that USB connector intended for updating the display unit firmware (if ever needed) also DOUBLE as a dash cam memory stick connection so we won’t have to keep it in the center console? Thanks again!
@ 4:03 was the guy holding s freaking shotgun in the back 😱
It looks nearly it is original :) i love it, and i wannt to buy it for my tesla model y that i have not recieved yet . :) 👏👏👏
so got some question about that cluster panel,
1- can it goes into night mode ? does it automatically sync with the day and night of your Tesla monitor?
2- how bad does it affect the air vent behind the cluster panel? you can't get any air blowing in you face now or on you?
really nice panel add-on 👌 sometimes my eye got used to look inside the steering wheel for the speed...thinking of getting one in black...
1. I immediately went to their website and night mode is shown in their pics. 2. It's pretty clear that the air vent is blocked - especially from their images. Clearly that's a sacrifice you would have to make - along with $795.
I asked them about the car color and whether they had solved the issues plaguing the similar item. They responded the next day, with positive answers. Drop them a note and let us know!
Highly informative...
Love it but it does good all warranty having this thing installed. So that’s the not so great part but looks amazing!
No it doesn’t, can also revert back to stock in 5 min
Now this aftermarket instrument cluster installed in front of Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y steering wheel is really useful. I want it. But wait ✋️. I don't have a Tesla vehicle. And Texas law forbids ordering a Tesla (or any vehicle including an EV) over the internet. You have to use a dealer and deal with their typical price gouging mark-ups above the MSRP. Tesla has no dealer as vehicles are delivered directly to customers.
PS: Tesla's Fast-charging network infrastructure, according to UA-cam reports by users, is far superior and more numerous than Electrify America and the many others combined. They typically are in working condition, too.
That’s incorrect! I ordered directly from the Tesla website mid May. My Tesla will be delivered on the 28th at the Dallas store. Yes they don’t have a dealership but you are able to order. Only thing is you have to pay sales tax and registration on your own or you can roll it into your financing. They’ll mail documents for registration after delivery
All I need now is a front passenger ceiling grab handle and the Model 3/Y is good to go for me.
My Aunt still reaches for a handle above the window.
Great video...Thank you....
Got a question, I noticed the car display on the new instrument cluster has the car in blue. I am assuming there is no option for color matching the color to your actual car color like you can do on the Tesla monitor.
So turns out because our M3 is only one of a few thousand 3’s with the original silver color, the center screen didn’t automatically transmit the correct color to the smart cluster. Otherwise the color auto matches any other color 3 or Y. I understand there’s a firmware update coming to solve it for silver 3’s though.
Great video! Drove my first Tesla (Model Y Long Range) and the lack of an instrument cluster hit me fast. Especially coming from normal ICE layouts (Mercedes AMG suv coupe). However..... as time progresses I got used to the one large iPad screen setup and the only thing that might actually be useful (and more so than in an ICE) is a heads up display! Otherwise, I was very impressed with the Tesla Model Y and this is coming from my daily driver Mercedes AMG. Less is more (relaxing) in the Tesla. Will get one in the future (knock on wood).
They're going to sell A LOT of these IMO.
That is one excellent after market feature I would not mind having.
Thanks Jackson, we love to hear that!
Great design, I just wish it was bigger like oem model s size pre plad
The UI looks cheesey
How about the AC? After install , do you notice a difference ?
Any software updates since this review that improve the UI? Very interested in this concept, I just feel like it needs a bit more work.
4:50 nice reference Kim. lol
Def improvement. Really enjoyed the video detailing the instal. 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Super! Especially it's done by a girl, so I feel that I can do it for sure! 😄
Never felt that anything was missing from my 3 or my new Y. This thing looks nice, but completely un-needed and also screws up the HVAC.
HVAC is a deal killer for me…not sure his this thing could be sold in very hot climates
Looks good, makes a good case to add a yoke steering wheel.
Elon messed up a lot not putting a Heads Up Display. That was the minimal solution. Also I wonder how fast My taxi is going sometime and wish to tell him to speed up in a nice way (priority switch)
This one, or the other one you installed… which is better? This one appears to be $200 more or so but the other one looks better to me. Curious about your take.
Would be good to see how easy it is to snap original parts back in
The graphics need to improve. It looks like something from the early 90s
10 out of 10. THANKS for making the video.
Does the integrated display update itself with each firmware update? Any glitch yet? Thanks.
They need to partner with tesla for this get bought out whatever? Because I bet at scale installed at the factory, this would only cost about $250 to do or less. And then tesla would eliminate one of the most common gripes about those who like an ev but want an instrument cluster. 👍🏻
And Tesla would charge customers more than $800.
Where did you get those white seat covers?
It looks great! But I was just told by a Tesla technician that any installation of third party electronic equipment, compromises your warranty on the wirings system in your tesla!
It’s not legal for a car manufacturer to deny warranty from installing aftermarket products unless the issue is proven directly related to the aftermarket part. Google magnuson moss act 👍🏻
Like the OEM look, but the UI needs work. Also wish it had a front camera option.
Ok so I need one of these 😂😂 wonder if they do right hand drive for the U.K.?
Is there an a option to change the color of the car shown in the display? You have a gray car but display shows a blue car. I have a similar console from another brand and you can choose car color. So just wondering. I really like the OEM look of this display.
2 Main questions I have is 1. Does it affect the airflow at all, if so then how? and 2. Does it lower your range? meaning does it drain the battery any quicker cuz it's digital display? if so by how many miles roughly?
Other than that it looks great, awesome video!
Air flow is deflected above the display. If you’re on the shorter end, you get less direct air in your face (if that’s what you like) otherwise the taller drivers will still feel air in the face.
Battery impact is negligible…haven’t seen any noticeable impact as it just a small LCD screen tapping into a giant battery pack.
Needs some work on the UI to match Tesla style. I like the concept of replacing the dash itself with an enhanced part, looks simple enough to DIY. I hope they make a sleeker/HUD version that shows speed, next nav instruction, gear selection, headlight status, blinkers, and the regen/power bar.
Gear select?
