I was 16 at the time of this game and a big time Kentucky fan at no time did anyone say anything about the black white makeup of that game. We didn’t think little Texas Western could beat Kentucky. We were shocked about that because we had never see Texas Western! We did not know it was a black team until we saw it on tv the night of the game. Kentucky had played against black players before it was no big deal to us we just thought Kentucky was a better team.

Correct. Race was never mentioned until a number of years later. I know. I was a freshman that year

UCONN Huskies 1951 team had black players. Change was damn slow in the South.

This 1966 NCAA Title Game ( Black vs White ) ( Texas Western vs. Kentucky ) = So Overrated .No one cares about the starting 5 from each team . They were Basketball Players. True Americans and basketball fans don't even look at the color of the player. The issue is can that team play up to the level of the other team? Are they well coached ? How is their Sill level ? Too many people put this Race issue into every conversation Possible . Its Wrong

I hear you. The point was to put this moment in the context of 1966, when it was an historic moment. I appreciate you taking the time to check out the clip and offer your thoughtful comment.

Thank you . I remember this game as I remember the year before with the Michigan - UCLA Championship Game,( Gail Goodrich , Edgar Lacy team vs Cazzie Russell and Bill Bunting and Ollie Darden ( I think Michigan had 4 black Starters - but I'm not 100 % certain. But no mention of black vs white in the year either @@toddjones6654

Wow! Do you understand that most southern colleges would not allow Black players on their team? Do you understand that most northern teams would only take a select few? Do you understand that most of the PWI would not play HBCUs? And when they did many PWIs got waxed. I just watched another video of the same game and clearly saw the Confederate Flag being waved on the first row. "True Americans"? What is that? Bigots are just as much American as any other American citizen. Miss me with color-blindness. I Black, recognize and respect my Blackness. Understand that my Blackness brings a unique understanding of the world. Understand that my perspective enlightens the world. Recognize everyone's unique qualities and embrace it so you won't be so ill-informed. Color, culture, ethnicity adds quality that obscurity doesn't.
