I was stationed there in 1968-1969. Worked in TOR. Awesome site, with great capabilities then. The pinnacle of technology then. VERY Professional. Always on alert. Proud to have been there.
My dad worked as an ironworker at both Thule, Greenland and Clear, Alaska. He was gone about 9 months at each site. He was no stranger to travel. Before WWII he circled the world 4 times in the Merchant Marine. During the war he served in the SeeBees and in UDT in the Pacific. Following the war he then worked in oilfield construction in Houston and then Lake Maracaibo. As you might imagine this sparked my huge interest in Geography and Earth Science. No matter how much humans try to screw it up, this remains a beautiful, fascinating and wonderful world. It is truly the gift of the universe to us.
The last BMEWS, in Clear AK, was demolished this past October (2017) - While it was replace in 2002 by PAVE PAWS, it's still technological history lost.

Your father was undoubtedly one of those people who helped make this place the gift it is.

It's always hard to see a piece of technological history disappear. Sad.
I was stationed there in 2010-11 and poked in and around the old 'tech site' as they called it.
