He sent me back a postcard of a stock promotional photograph with his generic "photostatic" signiture on it. He offered a larger print, if I wanted, for a small amount of money ... ($.25 - $1.00 ???) I ordered one and got back an 8" X 10" black and white photo, personally signed by him ... "To Tommy, All good luck Jim Cagney". What can I say ? ... I was 10 years old.
Thanks for uploading this. I loved "Hollywood and the Stars" when I saw it when it came out in the early 60s and have thought of it often. I really the theme song. Sorry the top of the picture is cropped.
There will be great actors in every era ,if they have the platform, but the sheer, vibrant dynamism of James Cagney is sorely absent in modern cinema...
Cagney's brother, William, became a movie producer, but you get to see him acting for awhile in the movie "Palooka", I would say to him, "I'm sorry, James, he may be bigger than you, but your brother just doesn't have the personality, the style like you do."
