The Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner and The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta are superbly underrated and need to be brought to the attention of both YA and adult fantasy fans!

Seven Realms series - by Cinda Williams Chima Shatter Realms series - by Cinda Williams Chima Six of Crows series - by Leigh Bardugo Three Dark Crowns series - Kendar Blake Queen’s Thief series - Megan Wallen Turner Lumetri Chronicles - Molina Marchetta His Dark Materials series - Philip Pullman Ember and the Ashes series - Sabaa Tahir Legendborn - Tracy Dion Girl of Fire and Thorn series - Rae Carson Scythe series - Neal Shusterman
Cinda Williams Chima has got to be one of my most favorite authors of all times! She is criminally underrate and I wish more people could see her greatness. Not only is her writing amazing, she also a really nice person! I went to a book signing in 2019 and she was nice enough to sign all 22 of the books I brought with me. She didn't complain, gave bookmarks, and a matching cover for her one of her books that went through a cover change. Her husband was also super nice and took picture of my huge stack.
I have gotten to meet her a few times too because I live in Ohio (Lancaster) and she has never been anything but kind/gracious/funny. I'm so glad Regan gives her shout outs.
I'm so happy to see my absolute faves here. I feel validated. 😂 Six of Crows, Three Dark Crowns, An Ember in the Ashes, Scythe Def checking out the rest because I trust you with all my YA fantasy reads.
I have an entire Cinda Chima shelf at home too. She is SO underrated. The Demon King series is so stinking good!!! If you like high fantasy, you can't go wrong there. Plus, she's witty. And a genuinely nice person. I'm so glad you talk about her on your channel.
@@nawarkhandkar8532 The plot is very action packed, but the main male character and main female character are well developed too. I think that's why I like the series so much - plot keeps moving but not at the expense of shallow character development. Cinda Chima is really good at balancing those two. Enjoy!!
honestly, scythe, unwind, and the everlost series are some of the best series i have ever read. neal shusterman deserves a round of applause. also scythe needs to become a tv show, honestly it does
My Top five YA High Fantasy Series: Seraphina by Rachel Hartman Graceling Realms Series by Kristin Cashore (Winterkeep 😍😍) An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor The Queen's Thief Series by Megan Whelan Turner Honorable mention: The Elemental Trilogy by Sherry Thomas
My favourite YA fantasy is caraval! It got me back into reading again and I’m very happy. And I recently finished reading the Three Dark Crown series and it was such a fun and dark series! I love all of the characters and yes the ambience was so good.
You introduced me to Three Dark Crowns almost 2 years ago and I absolutely devoured that series!! This series also ranks amongst my all time YA Fantasy favs! Thank You!! 😊
I did not know they did that. I thought there was some confusion with the film they did of the first book. I noticed you said daemon like “daymon” too, daemon is just the English spelling for demon, we say it the same though.
No “daemons” are Ancient Greek spirits that are very different to what demons traditionally are. You got to know your witchcraft non fiction to know what fiction is inspired by.
I re read his dark materials for the first time since I was like 12-13 in 2019 and it totally holds up!!! Truly an underrated fav, I feel like people forget about it
The Seven Realms series is by far one of my most favorite YA fantasy series and is definitely criminally underrated. I just want more people to know about it and read it!
Love these recommendations!! Some faves of mine are the Shadowhunter books, Rick Riordan books, An Ember in the Ashes series, The Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows, Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, the Monsters of Verity Duology, The Raven Cycle, and these are more sci fi but The Lunar Chronicles and Renegades trilogy by Marissa Meyer!💚
I double taked when The Queens Thief series was mention. Definitely a "criminally underrated" series. In my top 5 series of all time. Books 2 and 3 have mind bending endings. Half of the time you lothe the Mc, and the other half you absolutely adore him.
I loved your picks! And I would also add the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, the Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke and Uprooted by Naomi Novik.
I actually collapsed when you started with Cinda Williams Chima. She’s probably my all time favorite author and I never hear people talking about her work. That was amazing, thank you
I must admit, you picked some good ones, Regan! I am not a huge fan of YA fantasy (hmmm, says the one who thoroughly enjoyed "Embers,,," & "Six of Crows") but I am intrigued by "The Thief" book. I love a good heist! TY!
Just wanted to say that I read His Dark Materials when I was a kid and decided to reread it after I graduated from college and I'm soooo glad I did--there's so much nuance I didn't pick up as a child that made me fall in love with the trilogy again, so highly recommend you do the same!

Ones that I love that you didn’t mention are the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix (starting with Sabriel) and anything by Laini Taylor (I really loved Strange the Dreamer but the politics of her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series catches you off guard in the second and third books)
Love your videos. Not a YA reader in general, however, I just discovered "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," and wow, I was blown away. Anyone who has ever had a close relationship with a grandparent and who loved to listen to their stories, will love this book.
The Ember in the Ashes series is stunning. I know it is rather popular, but I also feel not enough people talk about it! I will read anything Sabaa writes. She is incredible!
