  • Today's video is about turning your horse around the barrel without wasting time, movement & space. Everyone wants tighter turns around the barrel. Watch how Joe trains to get this horse to turn very tight around the barrels.
Watch the body positioning Joe has while going into the corner. Every ounce of your weight can go into helping your horse or slowing your horse down.
These barrel racing exercises are great for beginner and experts alike. These exercises are a great way to get your horse back into peak physical condition or competition ready condition but also help practice the right way of getting around a barrel repetitively.
By doing these exercises you will build trust between you and your horse. You will build trust because both you and your horse will understand what the other one is going to do when it matters (at the race, with the money on the line). By doing this training your horse will understand exactly what to do and how you want it done when your under the lights!

When your asking her to get to the outside. What are you looking for? A shift to the outside stirrup or for her to pick up the out side rein?

Taylor Masse I want her to switch her seat bone about halfway around the turn to block the horse from making the circle too big I want tight turns you have to switch your seat bone and block the horse from making too wide a turn just sitting on the inside and pulling on the inside rein does not make the horse make take turns and that is her habit

I’ll be honest Kirby I don’t get into bits that much, I don’t know what’s in that horses mouth right there…I’m a big snaffle bit person I’m gonna work hard with a sniffle bit(and that all comes in the two-year-old three-year-old stage, and it’s just plain horsemanship) I will get it because that’s how I have been trained , Yes I may put maybe a shank bid on I’m doing that it’s just because of running out the alley having a little more control.. that’s Marry Ann‘s horse and if I remember correctly, I’m just getting back from Christmas and she had her own shit in that horses mouth, to me it really doesn’t matter what’s in there I just work with it.
