4 Stages For Creating Your Land Acknowledgement
🌄researching your relationship to the first peoples and land 🌄
    4:00🌠 ask the hard questions
🌄what are you doing to foster healthy relationship with indigenous peoples?
🌄how can you support the indigenous peoples of your territory?
🌄why do you want to create a land acknowledgement in the first place?
    4:25🌠 do your research
🌳learn their histories, language and worldviews - who is this land acknowledgement for?
    5:10🌠 past, present and future
🌳who they were, are and are moving forward
5:50🌠 call to action and commitment
🌳finding out ways you can support your community
Thank you for this video. I am learning here as a non-indigenous person looking for ways to bring land acknowledgement into my work and community building process. Thank you for the resource! I'd love to know your thoughts on best ways for communities/organizations to integrate land acknowledgement into their work.
    In solidarity,
    Libby

Thank you Zhaawnong. I am now writing up a personal land acknowledgement to my hometown in China as a part of my dissertation defence. Your video inspired me. My question is: if I come from that hometown/land but I spent my recent ten years here in Canada, how do I address my acknowledgement (even I am away for ten years) and how to make connections between my current status and my hometown land. Thank you!!

The college that work for has scripted land acknowledgment that makes me cringe. You have inspired me to write a new land acknowledgment that will include a call to action of reducing GHG and a Net Zero building practice that will require renewable energy into the design.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

This never made any sense to me. It’s actually infuriating to hear, the more I hear it.
Imagine if I stole your car, and you had no recourse legal or otherwise, then I drove that car to your house a few years later, and acknowledge that I stole it from you.
I don’t give it back to you, I don’t even pay you for it. What I say isn’t even an apology. Then I drive off in your car, safe in the knowledge that absolutely nothing will happen to me because of what I did.
Do you feel better after that or are you more pissed off and would have felt better if I said nothing at all?

The happened can be addressed and dealt with... In Alcoholics Anonymous, one step is a rigorous personal inventory of what you've done that hurt others... (But Why bother? It's in the past and cannot be undone?)
The next thing is to make amends... To make Right where possible the things that you have done to hurt others in the past... (But why bother?! It's in the past!)
Because acknowledging the wrongs and harms can indeed have an impact if it's a genuine action, done with a contrite heart, and an evidenced attempt to do better moving forward. It Matters. Do you know who often says, "that was all in the past, let's just leave it behind and move on!" when faced with their own shortcomings?
      A narcissist.

@@neilpacethis is all a scam. Someone is going around collecting speaking fees for nonsense that sounds good but has no merit whatsoever.
You don’t think the natives were fighting and killing each other? Hunting other tribes into extinction and taking land than once belonged to other tribes?
Ask yourself as well, how can we be held responsible for actions we never took. I never killed a Native American and I never stole their land. There is no Native American alive today who had their land taken from them.
And even if you believed all of this, you can’t really be sorry if you’re not willing to give back what was stolen.
I assume you own a house. Have you checked which Native American tribe were the ancestral owners of that land? Why haven’t you given it back to them? It’s easy enough to do, isn’t it? Sell the land to them for a dollar, and tell us all how great a person you are for doing it, but you won’t will you? Because that means you won’t be a hypocrite

I'm so sick of hearing this. All you do is keep the past alive. The problem has become the problem. It's always at the front of your mind and spirit. You are no different than anything else in this world. You have no status, no prestige, you are not superior. All people have been slaves and been colonized in such horrible ways. Everytime i hear this i feel embarrassed for you. Just be strong and empowered for yourself. Empowerment shouldnt have to be " acknowledged" People dont have to Acknowledge anything. Move on and progress. Acknowledge all life, all people, all of yourself.

You're ignorant... Not in the insulting way, but in the, "you are obtuse, and you don't have a hot clue" kinda way.
Let me see if I've got this right, using the old Military conquest model, might makes right, and the European colonists rolled in with Superior military power, and just took over North America and split it amongst themselves... (We could have a discussion about whether it would be okay to kick you out of your house while looking down the barrel of a gun, but let's set that aside for now...)
Might makes right. Their team lost. The group with the bigger weapons win. Am I missing anything from your brilliant logical framework?
The problem is that the European colonists made contractual agreements with the native people's. They treated them as a Nation and (you might say foolishly) made legally binding agreements with those sovereign nations to live up to certain obligations. They did this in part because philosophers and political thinkers Even back then were starting to question the legitimacy of just taking Land from peoples willy nilly without regards for the conquered people's.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. But wouldn't it be nice if you put a wee bit of thought into yours before you start spouting off like a ignoramus?
