Yep same here. Newest car i own is a 2016. Not to mention they are all starting to look like crossovers, the stuff craig talked about is what I’ve told some of my Tesla owner friends with their electric cars.
Imagine your working at the salvage yard late at night and out of no where a car just shows up and parks itself. No driver inside. I would be scared shitless.
As someone who works in IT, I definitely agree with you that while some things can be very helpful, this can be a VERY slippery slope going forward. For one, computers/software are never perfect from my experience, especially in cars. Having a potentially dodgy computer in control of most of my vehicle does not put me at ease in the slightest. Secondly, I am also more worried about the cyber security side of things as well. With all this tech now in the car, it just introduces more potential vectors of attack for bad actors to utilize and maybe even put the vehicle’s occupants at risk. We’re already seeing some of this happen when hackers can hijack signals from a key fob and steal a car. Finally, you also brought up a good point about more manufacturer and government control, which does not sound good at all for the consumer and democracy in general.
A front drive GM V6 with the exhaust cut off? ( the reason they sound like this is because the outlet to the exhaust of the firewall side manifold is in the middle cylinder and the front manifold outlet connects the flywheel side to the firewall side flywheel portion of the manifold. This ends up changing the pulse timing from even to odd fire. )

You can show everyone how bad it is for you, show them what it’s made from, and how much money companies make from making insane profits from ingredients, but most won’t care to listen since there isn’t an alternative to that convenience and price. If we had cheap Chinese cars selling in the US that already had all these features, I guarantee you that 90% of people would just be super excited just to be able to afford a new car, and only 10% would actually do their research and find out how intrusive the tech actually is. Example being that I had an ex who bought a Mitsubishi Mirage 2019 for $26,000 a couple months ago. Literally $10k over the brand new ones, and she did no research at all. I don’t feel bad for her since she didn’t even ask why the price was so high. She just said sign me up, and now she’s complaining to me that it has a ton of problems and she can’t afford it. Oh well.
