At the risk of being a killjoy, the expense of the technology will be extraordinary (good for tech sector), I guess the Govt is going to help with that and the extra surpluses will also go to tech forever as it always has and does the moment they get their foot in the door. We need little flying robots that eat bugs so we nolonger require pesticides.

As a CSE student from India, we are reminded almost everyday, how AI is rapidly growing here.. Now while there are many pros and cons to this, it is an inevitable change that we need to be prepared for. Amidst the loss of jobs, it's warming to see the benefits of AI in development.

Dont forget that the age old agricultural practices has made india self dependent on food production the ai system is used to just increase the yield......
From the time of green revolution india has become self reliant and it exports rice to countries like saudi arabia , europe and us
This is our tradition to uphold our practices but we are also working in shoulders to get advanced technically in the field of farming

Because of green revolution, use of chemicals, have grown to a larger scale and there residues have long impact on body. Some years after independence India could not control its population nor they would afford to import food! So few Americans supplied very cheap chemicals to India to keep yields at maximum level and make sure India could at least provide food for its people. Westerners will telecast unique things around the world but that doesn’t mean agriculture in India is getting modern! India is still struggling to cope with agriculture and allied activities

Maintaining soil health is very very important. The microbial activity should be given more importance. Our age old practices emphasizes on that. This AI tech from fasal is not affordable by the marginal farmers who comprises of 90 % of farmers. Most of the water just flows away or doesn't percolate as the porous nature of soil is simply removed due to absence of microbs and earthworm. Same hold for bugs and insects, we are killing the friendly bugs and insects who are responsible for damaging crops have slowly developed immunity. Bees & Birds population are on decline. We kills snakes who used to roam our fields. The entire ecosystem is destroyed. According to me a farmer is not a businessman , he is like a son who takes care of mother earth and in return mother never disappoints. Govt. Instead of giving heavy subsidy and burdening our exchequer should concentrate on building ITI-Agri , we need more skilled farmers.

It's not an either or situation, you know. Infact, AI can be used to avoid the negatives of both traditional farming and industrial level farming. Traditional farming relies heavily on age old observed inferences, while AI can help with doing actual real time observation. You just have to use the traditional methods based on those data. Like how this person uses AI to just collect weather data and soil conditions. He can just simply minimize his water usage, and their is nothing against 'tradition' here. Just because he uses that data, doesn't necessarily mean he can only use modern chemicals, he could very well be using organic traditional fertilizers.
It could also help us avoid eutrophication, but making necessary drainage design changes, which is something Traditional farming doesn't care about.
We need to remember that times have changed, the seasons, climate and soil have changed and we cannot just blindly rely on old wisdom, that was made from observing past conditions, which isn't the same now.
