- Disassembly of the fuel system was only supposed to go as far as replacing the accessory shaft seal between the fuel filter housing and the injection pump assembly. The discoveries made mean much more work.
If what is known about the fuel system today was known when it was acquired it wouldn't have been operated.

Unfreakin' believable!!! What is it with people? BTW, myself, and a good friend from high-school, have restored a Cat 1928 gas Model 60 and a very early production Cat 1931 diesel Model 60. We ran into similar problems. VERY nice job on the restoration.
I've seen lots of neglect on this scale and these days I don't let it upset me. The fact is that lots of people put nothing into situations (relationships, machines, their own personal growth, society in general) but this strategy works for them. The previous owner(s) did nothing and it served them well. They had the use of this machine and it cost nothing but the fuel. The fact that you now find this rotten mess is no concern of theirs, proving to them that they made the right choices.
Got a heavy enough strap around that fuel pump there Butch? lol Yep! looks like that had good regular maintenance from an owner that cared. sheeesh!!!
The strap and loader really wasn't necessary it was just a back saving exercise.

that's goin to run so much better with new oil...…...I always say any oil is better that no oil !!!
Wadayamean? Surely it just needs ANOTHER coat of paint and it will run like new! ;-)
