Fun Fact: The director of this Doctor Eyes parody as well as this tongue in cheek series,Geoffrey Sax went on to direct The 1996 Doctor Who Movie with Paul McGann.
I just recently bought the End of Part One complete series on DVD. It was really quite far ahead of its time, with some very clever parodies of popular programmes of the day. I think my favourite skit was a piss-take of Border Television's nauseatingly saacherine quiz show, Mr & Mrs (here renamed Mr & Mr & Mrs and produced by Bordem Television). The actress playing 'Gloria' is Susan Holderness - best known for her role as Marlene, long-suffering wife of Boycie in Only Fools & Horses and it's spin-of The Green Green Grass. Her on-screen husband in that role was John Challis - known to Who fans as villainous henchman Scorby in The Seeds of Doom. Fred Harris, who plays the Doctor in the first part of the sketch was a frequent presenter on Playschool and Chock-a-Block. I got to meet him when I was about two years old - he'd been working with the local youth centre my dad managed, and came to our house. So, naturally, I asked if I would be allowed to keep Little Ted from Playschool. But Fred gently explained that if I did that, none of the other boys and girls watching would be able to see him. What a gent.
I remember watching this as an 11 year old DW fan when it originally aired and not seeing the funny side at the time! The Doctor is played by Fred Harris, famous to us of a certain vintage for Play School and his Micro Live series in the 80s. His assistant appears to be Sue Holderness, best known as Marlene in Only fools & Horses.
If you want to see the ultimate in DW's use of CSO/Chromakey/Green Screen just head straight for Underworld, a story where a number of the planned sets had to be scrapped for models due to rampaging inflation. It's probably only one step up from this sketch in production quality.
I watched all the weird who videos recently, great to see more! Keep it up, it's such a great series and super interesting seeing all of the odd stuff lost to time!
I liked End of Part One. I remember its theme music being near enough the theme from Coronation Street but different enough to earn the composer a credit in the closing titles.
The theme tune is the version produced in 1972 by Delia Derbyshire, Dick Mills and Brian Hodgson using the Delaware synthesiser. It didn’t prove to be very popular and wasn’t generally used, although it did make its way on to some episodes in Australia. For some reason it also appeared on one episode on the U.K. VHS release of Frontier In Space, which is where I first heard it. Whilst the term ‘chromakey’ was being used in the industry to describe that particular video effect, the BBC generally insisted on calling it Colour Seperation Overlay (CSO for short). I’m not sure why. It’s not really comparable to the more modern term CGI, which is a much more generic term for computer generated effects. But it is closely related to what we would now refer to as ‘blue screen’ or ‘green screen’. The guy playing Doctor Eyes is Fred Harris, who also presented Play School. There is an out-take on You Tube of him losing his ray when the Play School teddies won’t sit up straight and he starts smacking them about. The series was written by the creator of ‘One Foot In The Grave’ David Renwick and was directed by Geoffrey Sax, who directed the Dr Who TV movie.
This made me laugh out loud as well. Adam, I don't know if this has ever been discussed anywhere, but I have long harboured a suspicion that when Susan runs through the Skaro forests, they are indeed using that very effect you ask about in the vid. Take a look when next watching The Daleks, I swear it's a revolving background
I seem to remember that this show was directed by Geoffrey Sax who directed the 1996 TV movie. If my memory is correct, that's a pretty weird link lol.
The Doctor Who theme used was the "Delaware" version, this was an attempt to recreate the theme in 1972. That was then abandoned, so yeah an official theme, if maybe not the one in use at the time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_theme_music#1970s
The running on the spot thing could have been making fun of the bit in the pirate planet with the floor escalator thing or perhaps something similar could've possibly happebed in underworld or power of kroll
"Chroma key was one of the forerunners to what we call nowadays CGI." Isn't chroma keying just making a single-color background (usually blue or green) transparent, while Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is another term for 3D animation? The techniques co-exist and are now almost universally used together.
I must say the actors that played the Doctor and Romana in this parody skit would fit perfectly, if they were cast as them in the actual show for real.
Great video have you played lego dimensions video game because if you haven't play it there is a doctor who pack you can get for it where you can unlock and play as all the doctor's but not the 13th doctor because the game came out before the 13th doctor was the doctor there is another pack you can get that lets you play as a dalek and a cyber man and you can ride on k9 in the game too the inside of the tardis is different depending on the version of the doctor you are playing as and if you have the goonnies pack for logo dimensions there is a secret place you can travel to in the tardis were you will see the 1st doctor regenerate in to the 2nd doctor and if you play as the 1st or 2nd doctor the inside of the tardis will be in black and white.

Love the boom mic popping into to frame
When doing a sci-fi parody, got to be done eh 😂
Their Hanna-Barbera pastiche was even more scathingly funny.
I've never seen the whole skit before so thank you for that. It's rather charming, really.
It certainly has its charm that's for sure! Loved most of the humour in it too!

You know, I was trying to think why I recognised her but couldn’t place her. Thank you 😊
@@TimeBunny no worries

Hoping to do more in the near future! 😁👌

All the lads remember Marlene 😂😂😂

I remember watching this and loved it. I remember the gas powered television, programmes kept catching fire on it!
Good to see somebody else, watching this. I mean I have seen lots of End of Part Ones.
Loving the new TV content from you Adam, keep it coming man
Thanks pal! Glad you're enjoying it!
This is bonkers and I love it! I'd never ever heard of this show. Love what I learn through your videos 😂🥰
Thought it'd be right up your alley! 😜😘 always happy that you enjoy them 🥰

The regenerated Doctor looks a lot like David Collings!

The 3rd to 4th regenerated the floor moves and so that’s a nice reference there

Did you see the QI Comic Relief Special on Red Nose Day last Friday? The audience were singing Doctor In Distress. That's all you need to know.
I did see that clip! Can't believe Doctor in Distress made a comeback in 2022 😂
@@AdamMartyn Thinking about it, Doctor in Distress should get its own Weird Who episode.
Loving the new videos
Thanks man!
K-9 did his own show.
Love this!
You should check out Family Guy or Robot Chicken.
Haha. Loved this.
Those idents with the AMTV text on is really cool. How do you do it?
Dr. Eyes is like an SCP
When is Doctor who viewing figures returning
Dr. Hewson is a good comedic sketch by Aussie sketch show Fastforward
Would've had potential if LWT/ITV moved that show (End of Part One) on early Friday nights.
There's a weird phenomenon where parodies of Doctor Who become more dated, cringe, and badly aged than the low points of the show itself.
What a great find! I think that the best parody of Dr Who was Colin Baker..
Cool video
Thanks pal!
