Maggie's Farm -
words and music Bob Dylan -
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I wake in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray for rain.
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane.
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
He asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
Well, he puts his cigar
Out in your face just for kicks.
His bedroom window
It is made out of bricks.
The National Guard stands around his door.
Ah, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law.
Everybody says
She's the brains behind pa.
She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
They sing while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more
I 've learned two things this week. Noam Chomsky always knows exactly what he is talking about. And Bob Dylan is the best Rock and Roll the world's ever seen.
I got nothing else to say.
welcome to the club--if u havent already Czech out Howard Zinn & Chris Hedges
I love this song and the way he sings it.I must of played it 100 times, the guy is fukin wicked.
Totally awesome
The Best!
At Farm Aid too :)
Smokin' band breathes fire into a song for the ages."She's 68, but she says she's 24."
At farm aid and this is why Dylan won a peace prize calls it like he sees it and fearless in his art🎸
Thanks so much for posting this! I was 19 and got a ticket the night before this show when I heard Dylan would be there. drove down from Chicago early in the morning and had one of the best days of my life! It is great to see some of this captured so well after all these years!
Greg Kessler I bought a new album of his somewhere around 2004. It was so good that I was exhausted. The dude had my sorrow on the wall and my joy on the floor. I couldn't take it anymore. On the ceiling I painted a symbol I felt represented the world.
And, realized he and John Lennon changed to world.
I think Bob Dylan is a-lot better than John Lennon and made more of a positive social contribution. Now, anout 15 years ago, or so. I read everything Noam Chomsky that I could find.
Between these three people, I got the very best education of any-one I know. Pass it forward.
Love is the highest form of intelligence.

I like the way willie takes them home.
