I once heard story of a teacher who took a fish out of its bowl and left it to flop around in front of a classroom of children. Before walking out of the room, the teacher told the students that if anyone left their seat, they would be expelled from school.
The children sat in their chairs and watched as the fish flopped and gasped for air not wanting to get up in order to avoid getting in trouble.
Finally, a girl jumped from her seat and ran to the fish in the front of the room. She quickly grabbed it and placed it back in the bowl of water. She refused to watch the fish die.
When the teacher returned to the classroom he told the class the fish was an object lesson. He told them that the fear of getting in trouble should never stop you from doing what's right. That sometimes opposing authority is necessary to do what’s right.
