I usually only put points into Healing Factor very late in the game when food is no longer a problem. It's actually more for convenience. I don't want to have to eat bandages all the time just to be at maximum health. It may not be the most efficient but it is very convenient to not have to think about topping of your health after every fight.
It’s also good to point out that, the same amount of skill points needed to max out healing factor, is equal to what you would need for master chef, living off the land, and physician combined.
izprebuilt and Saven's World have done videos on healing factor. Both concluded healing factor increases the metabolic rate which converts food into health. Healing has always been one to one with food cost since the skill system was introduced. Most food you will need to replenish such high metabolism also heals you for quite a bit making this perk redundant, just heal with food anyways
If food is an issue make sure you’re investing into stamina regen (cardio, medium/heavy armor perks and weapon perks/books that use less and restore more stam) and custom/improved fitting armor mods for heavy and medium armor. Around level 40 I stop bringing food with me when I leave my base. Around level 60-70 I’ll only need to eat once every 24 hours. That’s with healing factor 3. I wasn’t aware of the issue so now I need to decide whether it’s worth using a Forgettin’ Elixir for a problem I didn’t know existed. I just find so much food in POI’s (chicken soup/rations, miso soup, etc) it’s never an issue. I do like this kind of content. Knowing stuff like this makes future decisions easier.
Well: Despite the wrongly implemented control via the xml, the actual fact that food gets burned for healing is consistent across all versions of the game since this feature was introduced. I would have been surprised if you had actually shown that the wording of the attribute in the xml file would have finally been implemented. Thus, we can calmly deduce that the funpimps have a lot (since this one is just one under at least many hundreds) of bugs in the implementation of the xml files.
Healing Factor has always destroyed your food as far back as I can remember. Considering the amount of food it takes to heal over time, it's better to just eat decent food and get that health back faster
to be fair it actually makes way more sense for it to use food, bodies don't just heal off of water lol. this is a zombie survival game, you should actually have to, yknow, survive.. and that means farming a lot of food.
yeah but then they should just say it in the description of the perk. Bcs the perk makes no sense at all when you have to eat the double amount as usual bcs then you can just heal with food anyway as they also give you health by eating
@@vairoxx4031 yeah it doesn't work perfectly by any means, they should def tweak some values and make it more clear in-game what you're getting yourself into by buying the perk, i just think assuming it would only use water is really silly lol.
Regarding bandages, there's also a book in the Wasteland Treasures line that allows you to spin cloth from just common plant fiber. If you find that early enough, you can be swimming in bandages just from mining clay soil
humm...yeah, I mean I do like to put a couple points into healing factor, because having some passive traits is just...nice, to not have to worry as much about topping off my health.
It affects the same stats that the nomad armor and every other thing in the game that affects food and water drain FoodLossPerStaminaPointGained and WaterLossPerStaminaPointGained. Nothing stops this loss of food for healing.
Healing factor has always cost extra food. Not sure if its bug or not because it's been that way for years. To be honest it's not a huge price to pay for regeneration that rapid. You're also saving the inventory space you'd use on other meds, of which there are several. The point investment is another matter and a totally valid complaint but then again, once you're at the kind of levels you need to max healing factor, I would think you're more than capable of securing sufficient food. Physician is definitely a more powerful perk than healing factor but the difference is that healing factor is totally passive and only requires you to eat a little more, which you should be doing anyway, whereas physician is active and requires medical supplies; if you happen to find yourself bereft of a splint or somehow out of bandages, you'll wish you had healing factor. Personally I'm not a big fan of the fortitude tree; farming is harder to sustain now without a farmer armor set, machine guns are the most ammo hungry weapons in the game and fistfighting will get you killed until you have all the perks, books and steel knuckles needed to get the wolverine build online. Thus, the point investment for healing factor IS a big downside for me. Your mileage may vary. On thing I think we can all agree on though is that healing factor should NOT be one of your first perks.
When did you start playing 7days to die and if the code is saying this it's a bug a by product and healing factor didn't always take food it was the running and battle that took the food I'm actually playing alpha 20 right now
@@benbaker4198 don't recall precisely when I got it but it's been several years and yeah, healing factor hasn't really changed over the years. I've never looked at the code but in my experience, it's just always consumed more because healing takes more and you're healing faster. Whatever the actual coding reason, that practical fact just hasn't really changed.
you can carry food in bigger stacks too. if you're not in danger of literal death, you should be able to fully heal off of healing factor during POI clears without ever needing actual meds and only need to eat 1 food to replenish it which you would have to eat eventually anyway from already naturally losing the food and water to stamina regen. it's honestly just a matter of preference at this point, but if you are low on food at any point past day 14 you have bigger problems to sort out than the extra food loss from the perk.
While I can’t speak for TFP’s intentions I think they have developed the new skill trees based on old school classes. For healing factor I’m guessing they were thinking a hunter type character with the majority of points going into healing factor huntsmen and the rest in the perception or agility trees. But that’s just my guess as the above build would most likely be living off of bacon and eggs for probly the first 30 days depending on your settings (I’m a 2 hour day guy) and food probly wouldn’t be an issue.on a side note I have noticed other debuffs in the skills but they’re a little more complicated like it seems like a waste of points to max certain weapon skills like spears or clubs because you can usually find all the books for each pretty quick negating the stamina costs. And the damage bonuses aren’t that huge considering none of the melee weapons get over 100 except the sledge.
I think this is working as intended bc food is all but useless in this game. I mean once u can craft even simple things ur food production is through the roof and it becomes useless. I often wished higher quality foods would add things like damage buffs or stamina buffs or skill buffs like the candies can. Otherwise without this tanking food the whole farming and cooking skill in this game is useless but for rp
I perked into healing factor thinking it would be beneficial -- then I noticed I was eating *way* more food on a mission than my friend, who didn't use it. I perked out of it using the respec potion and I never had the issue again; simply eating or using bangages was a better alternative. All healing factor seems to do is draw on your stomach to refill your health, effectively starving you to death. Saw a streamer play when 1.0 dropped and he couldn't explain why he was eating all the time until I clued him in. Got a free sub out of it :)
Healing Factor just never felt that special to me because the healing from food is so good. If you just eat one boiled meat, it's worth a couple minutes of healing ticking away. Unless you have a whole lot of points in healing Factor. It is still a nice passive perk but it doesn't feel all that necessary, especially considering all the drain you mentioned.
wow thank you this explains everything! On a friends server i had a build where I spent 4 points into healing factor bcs its nice to have always full health wihtout healing. I got all the Health recovery maxed and then increase max health and stamina, my food and water got drained at a brutal rate where I nearly die from starvation and thirst. luckily I got a few stews in my inventory. Maybe the stamina recovery is bound with water and health recovery bound with food? gotta need some tests to see that.
Health recovery has been bound to food for several Alpha builds. Healing factor increases both rate of healing and rate of "food" loss. Every time it has been brought up to TFP they have stated that this is intended since something was needed to balance out the increased healing rate.
