Just remember, no one ever tells Téa that she was being constantly possessed during this storyline. I have to imagine that she went to the doctor after the finals because she (as far as she knew) was having a _lot_ of random blackouts for a few days.
Yami Marik beat the main villain (bakura) and the main hero (Atem) in duels, atem literally lost in the anime he had no cards left in the manga all Marik had to do was say "turn end" and he would have won. Even when Regular Marik was controlling Joey then yugi/atem's lifepoints dropped to zero.

Yami Marik isn't wrong. It is sad that he chose Tea of all people to control. Not only is she not a fighter like say Joey or Tristan, but she also lacks just any physical strength compared to them as well... Then again, she's a not a duelist so it KIND OF works... i've always wondered couldnt marik ask for the pharaoh's help before they dueled? i'm sure "Yami yugi" or Atem if you prefer would be more than willing to help if and when he found out the truth earlier about marik
