One of the reasons I dislike biopics, I much prefer biographies. She is now for eternity beside Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas (mixed blood), Felix Eboué (another black man), Marie Curie, the great Simone Veil and the hero of the resistance Jean Moulin and quite a number of other French great men and women. She was an exceptional human being.

A Great Courageous Woman ❣️ During My own Growing Years, I'd heard So Much Spoken about Josephine Baker. She Inspired me to Follow her Path of Humanity to Proceed on My Own Journey to Live in Dignity, Integrity, Service and Peace. I Actually Encountered her in at the Cote d' Azur Airport in 1974. She was Beautiful and Graceful. Surrounded by Paparazzis at the Airport Corridor. I was Over the Moon when she Smiled at me❣️ But there was So Much Fuss and Ruckus ~ I Discretely Respectely her Space to CarryOn. I Shared various Mutual Friends who Knew her Personally in France. And Have Many Books on her Biography and Dedicate Works, and Life in France. She was a Noble Woman. A Heart of Gold, A Splendid Beauty, A Marvelous Empress of Cabaret Theater, the Silver Screen in Entertainment. A Woman of True Divine Courage. An Esteem Humanitarian❣️❗️

Slight fact correction ... Josephine wasn't the world's first black superstar.Josephine certainly was a superstar in Europe but her fame did not stretch to America until much later in her career. Long before Josephine got superstar status in the USA, the biggest black female stars in America in the 1920s were Florence Mills and Adelaide Hall. Then Ella and Billie came along in the 1930s. Adelaide Hall moved to Europe where Hall's popularity rivalled Josephine's for a time, especially in the UK. Josephine certainly was a superstar In France. History books document all these facts, and all the ladies mentioned led truly inspiring and remarkable lives. It's wonderful to see them get the recognition they all truly deserve. Well done to France for honouring Josephine at the Pantheon.

" J'ai deux amours mon pays et Paris."
    I 'm french.
Josephine Baker came in France for dancing, singing and to leave misery and racism.
At this time France have big empire, lot of colonies in Africa. France was absolut racist.
Josephine Baker was dancing half naked with banana aroud her.
That was how the whites people imagined the African.
My mother was swiss and told me about the zoo of Bâle. It was showed an African family in a case near the cage of lion. She was ten years and fifty years later she found that awful.
That was the European view about African and black people.
Halas, my country was also racist and fascist.
In the other hand , Josephine Baker fought inside the french resistance, taking all risks, for his new country, France, but also against racism and antisemitism of a terrible, powerful, awful NAZI.
For me Josephine Baker belongs to France and to USA. But she belong also to Germany, Spain, Italy, UK... And all countries in the world. She belong to this part of humanity which are turned toward luminosity.
Peace, tolerant, respectful:-, ready to fight for freedom, democracy, equality, happiness, the love of life....
She merit this hommage of the french Republic, .
Of this side of the french society who believes in Brotherhood and Freedom.
" I've two countries my country and Paris"
Excuse me for my bad engiish.
