      😅and lose all the research & development funding they recieve from tax revenue?.. remember, this is the same organisation that gambled with & lost 300-ish lives. over the MCAS debacle. they deviated from proper protocol willingly for greeds sake. tried blaming foreign pilots etc & 8:34 when the hammer fell on then CEO & he had to go, instead of 60 yrs incarcerated he recieved 60 million in bonus. it boggles the mind.
      learn how much behind schedule & over budget they are with the plane that was supposed to compete w air-bus.
      they in same boat w starliner.

    Couldn't the two astronauts left behind, just jump out wearing a space suit and a parachute? They wouldn't be going fast so no friction to burn them up. When they got down to 10 thousand feets, they could deploy their parachutes.

    • @AmbientMorality
      @AmbientMorality Місяць тому

      They would be going very fast and would be burned up. The ISS is in orbit, so it's traveling at several kilometers per second. Jumping out of it won't change your velocity very much. You would also not actually be able to jump enough to deorbit, so you'd first be stuck in space for a year, die, and then burn up.

    Back in mid-70s this (capsule launch/landing/docking/undocking) was a routine in the Soviet Union, almost like a New York - Tokyo commercial flight. Soviet Union is widely viewed as a compete failure, with its pieces (including Russia) being considered as 3-d (or even 4-th, 5th) world countries. It is amazing to see, after precisely 50 yrs, the the most technologically advanced country will have such a problem and the landing (of the unmanned capsule!) is still an event! What is going on?

    The physics of space travel has not changed since the 60's and 70's so what is it?
    The difference between generations -
    There was a generation that saved humanity then came home to send people to the moon. There was no such thing as acceptable failure to them. It was the Soviet Union that pretended something was not a failure or that it did not happen at all.
    This generation, failure with phrases like unscheduled rapid disassembly to compensate for ineptitude is ok because at least you participated, and you are entitled to something. This is the same generation demanding communism in this country as they applaud and cheer total failure, then defend their own failure of character.
    Then Generation - “Failure is not an option”
    Today’s Generation - ‘We are not afraid of failure”

      Then generation made Apollo 1. And destroyed two shuttles. And made Black people drink out of separate water fountains, when they weren't lynching them, because they decided Black people are sub-human. And gave us leaded gasoline even though they knew it would poison us.
      Yeah, "then" generation was just great.

    As I predicted , the Starliner returned to earth perfectly. I cannot believe the negativity toward Boeing . The comments I read were astoundingly negative . Lots of comments that are clearly uneducated , uninformed , people spouting rhetoric. I am a licensed pilot who has conducted many test flights I am also an astronomer and a space enthusiast . What people fail to recognise , is that all test flights have "Snags". The test pilots task is to mitigate the danger and work out the bugs while flying the air/space craft . Not for the faint of heart certainly not for beta individuals .You have to be a triple alpha person to be doing this not a beta person,Butch is an impeccable test pilot and certainly a triple alpha astronaut . Sonny is an experienced and highly intelligent astronaut also a triple alpa . Boeing poured thought the data and determined that the Starliner was fit for flight.Unfortunately because of the two loses of STS-51-L and STS -107 (complete vehicle losses with all crew perishing ), which both incidences were proven to be preventable. NASA decided they could not risk another disaster and made the decision to send the capsule down unmanned . This decision should have been made by the commander of the mission not a bureaucratic agency that has cased great loss of highly intelligent life -UNACCEPTABLE. The reason the hatch was left open , is it requires a crew to be on board to close the hatch . The capsule will sustain major damage with the capsule open , but even in this deplorable state , it still outperformed . Boeing was not crossing its fingers , the science and engineering prevailed as they correctly predicted . This is another NASA debacle . The villain here is not Boeing it is NASA. I think that lots of folks want revenge for the 737 max vehicle losses . You need to know this , All the pilot in both vehicle losses (in the 737max incidences )had to do was disconnect the auto pilot and fly the plane manually . Two of them were poor pilots and did not disconnect the auto pilot resulting in total vehicle loss of and complete loss of life . The third incident , the pilot did what Butch would do and disconnected the auto pilot and flew the plane maually without incident. Also pay attention to this, commercial passenger aircraft are fully autonomous . This means they can takeoff and land without pilot intervention ,and by law they only have to complete 1 in 3 landings manually . This means that a pilot with10,000 hours may only have 3,000 hours of pilot in command (PIC). This means that pilots are only required by law , to fly manually 33% PIC (to remind you Pilot In Command ). 66% of PIC is automation-THIS IS WRONG . Some pilots have forgotten how to fly manually because automation is well ..too easy .So before you pass judgment as you all have done, consider my comments and do some proper research and at least be somewhat informed before you comment on topics you clearly know nothing about . I am looking forward to your comments, because I am not going to tolerate any more of this utterly uninformed stupidity .
