A nice collard button-up blouse. Leather jackets can be worn causally or dressed up with a dress/nice slacks etc. Also a nice pair of boots, something versatile and easy to clean.
I believe you forgot a 3 piece suit that is well fitted. A vest is always versatile and can be worn casually or for dress. Plus a blazer can be used as a "winter coat" and the pants that should be fitted will always pull together the suit.
A staple in my wardrobe would most def be really comfy flats, or flipflops. I have a gross amount of shoes, but I usuallay only wear my flats or flipflops!
duplicate shoes are my clark boots/desert boots, they've been part of my wardrobe for like ever now. black fitted chinos from pacsun. nice fitted shirts, like t's and button ups, omg and a jean jacket.
Black everything, it's good to have that basic background just in case. Essentially neutrals in everything. Granted, I'm a girl, but I always have to have black pants, black boots, black sandals, and a black cardigan (and I wear through them like you wouldn't believe, my black combat boots are completely out of commission and I need a new pair.) I also always have white flats. And my paler and darker solid color cardigans always get a lot of wear and are a must.
YES! I knew I forgot something. A good pair of functional yet nice-looking boots are great. I have a pair of cognac riding boots that I wear at least once a week and they are super comfortable and great for all weather.
I liked this one pair of black/grey shoes I bought the exact same pair from an online show retailer after they stopped making them! (I should probably but a third or fourth pair soon so I can stock up... It's an addiction.) Also, every grown up needs some accessories! A nice belt... large worn brown leather, smooth black, and maybe a white. A fancy watch in a neutral color, or vibrant color to coordinate or differentiate your wardrobe also helps.
A good tip on how much money to spend on and item is to take the price of the item and divide it by how many times you think you will wear it per month or year. A $100 pair of shoes you expect to wear 3 times a month is a better buy than a $30 pair you may wear 3 times a year.
A few essentials that I have are: A black blazer A t-shirt that is modest but still says you're fun and a child at heart (I have a white power rangers shirt that I wear under my blazer to interviews. It's got me two jobs). A pair of leggings (for under jeans..for those colder days in winter. Snowpants are not cool) A swag belt. (If you're a girl...a waist skinny belt. It goes a long way) And a casual black dress. Because black is sexy and versatile and will go with any grey cardigan.
Wardrobe essentials: - leather jacket - trench coat - black crew necks - white crew necks Most importantly: Whatever you like and want to wear because you have that freedom!
An essential to "grown up" fashion (although I hardly dress like a grown up) I think is having one item of clothing or a color or pattern that you really love, and make it your signature to tie your wardrobe together. Of course having a wardrobe full of patterned cardigans (stars, polka dots, swirled, you name it) as I do could hardly be considered "grown up" by most sources. T___T
I am a girl so I wear skirts and you always need a black shirt or two around, as well as a couple nice plain colored tops to match your patterned skirts.
Joe, I feel your pain on not being able to get a job. It'll be a year in May since I graduated with my BFA and I still haven't gotten a job and it is most definitely not from a lack of trying. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you make me feel like less of a disaster. So, thanks. :D
Congrats on saying "Fashion" LOL My essential wardrobe is similar to yours... Dark jeans, great grey stylish jacket, tops and a flop collar cardi. Of course I do also have dresses, tights, accessories etc.... And shoes, shoes shoes!
Pencil skirt? Blouse, usually white/cream? Solid-color sweater? Dress socks? Black pants, appropriate cut for your shape? For ladies (maybe some gents): a well-fitting bra, GET YOUR TA-TAS MEASURED!
Well i have one piece that really pulls the adult out of me. A white short sleeve shirt. That always does the trick. No matter what pants or shoe you're wearing. With a white short sleeve shirt you can show that a part of you is always down to business. It has to be one that fits really well though. Otherwise you just gon look like a rapper.
Aww Joseph… It will work out in time. I have 2 degrees and it took me about 3 years to get myself a job in the field that I wanted. I would also tell people to have some nice underwear that makes them feel confident and sexy. Plus a nice dress up shirt never hurts.
You overlooked your socks, and I noticed when you lifted your one leg you weren't wearing any. As well you did not mention underpants. Does this mean you prefer to go commando?
Running shorts! They have this built in fabric so you don't need to wear underwear, they reveal your questionably sexy legs, and the fabric is light and soft to the touch of my freshly shaven legs.
Tssk tssk Joe - you forgot to mention headwear - a possible entire upload in itself! However, I forgive you, but only as your youtube persona is just sooo sweet :-D a bit like your dad! Ho ho..
Plain white shirt, you always need plain white shirts at some point, whether it's for a job interview or a wedding or even just to wear to a bar. Always have at least two though for the inevitable day you stain one with tomato sauce, wine, or in the same case as your shoes, vomit.
im just wondering, i have seen a few of ur videos and i want to know would it kill you to CLEAN up the room ur recording in? someone that knows about fashion should also have a little bit of knowledge about home decor. you would never leave the house not all put together, so maybe you should try that with ur room by cleaning it up and making it look professional or like the name of this video Grown up room! thanks hope it looks a little better next time!

Black button up shirt. Works for everything. Casual, dressey, interviews just throw on a tie. Or wear it half buttoned for simple n casual.
