  • Take a peaceful hike through the mountain cloud forests of the Savegre Mountain Reserve, Hotel and Spa, enjoying the relaxation of rolling mountain streams, mysterious and densely vegetated cloud forest, and an abundance of colorful birds! Expertly guided by Marino Chacon, I filmed most of the scenes with a Canon 7D digital SLR, often with my trusted 300mm f4L IS lens. I also used the Canon Powershot SX230HS. In a single morning, Marino Chacon helped me to see 54 species of birds that were new to my life list of birds in the wild! Birds identified in this film to date include Band-tailed Wood Pigeon, the endemic Sulfur-winged Parakeet, Magnificent Hummingbird, Green Violet-ear Hummingbird, the endemic Scintillant Hummingbird, Resplendent Quetzal, Emerald Toucanet, Spotted Barbtail, Tufted Flycatcher, endemic Yellow-winged Vireo, endemic Collared Redstart, endemic Black-cheeked Warbler, endemic Sooty-capped Bush Tanager, endemic Spangle-cheeked Tanager, Rufous-collared Sparrow, Elegant Euphonia, and endemic Golden-browed Chlorophonia. Many other birds are audible in this film, including scolds from the Green-crowned Brilliant hummingbird, various tanagers, Dark Pewee, and, at 6 minutes and 30 seconds, a jubilant duet of Spotted Wood Quail. Endemic species are species indigenous to an area and only found in very limited biogeographic ranges. Savegre has many endemic bird species found only in the cloud forests of southern Costa Rica and Panama .
