I've watched this show, I think, like six times over the years. I pick up a something new every time. The best way to enjoy it is to just watch it once in a while when you get the urge.

It does indeed have the sauce UwU Also thx so much for playing that one scene, it gives me chills >w< “Hybrid Rainbow” and the rest of the soundtrack is absolutely incredible. Easily one of, if not, my favorite animes ever (As well as Gurren Lagann which is cool to see you mention that anime) ^^ Amazing video!!! :3

While I do believe the main theme of FLCL is growing up I also believe it talks a LOT about all the types of love and relationships one can have.
Mamimi is a relationship completely abusive where the person only cares about themselves, but that you at the end understand and makes you don't hate them
Haruko is the relationship you feel like you want and you would feel completely happy in, but it's not really something completely healthy and is also kinda of abusive again
And Naota's classmate represents the actual good relationship you could have with someone that's right in front of you but you've never realized it
And there's a lot of other talk of love in the series, the eyebrows guy is about being salty about a break-up.
Haruka is obsessed with atomsk even though they "broke up"
There's the talk of the divorce of Naota's classmate, etc
And "Furi Kuri" is a representation of what someone main drive is, their passion. In the manga scene in the first chapter it shows that for Naota's Dad that's clearly sex, but for his grandpa is work. And Naota doesn't know what the hell is everyone saying cause he doesn't have his main passion yet
Or at least I like to interpret the show like that, a collection of all types of love one can and will experience in their lifetime

I often thought the eyebrows guy (captain amaragi) was not just break up but more so about being and trying to act adult, whilst still being susceptible to the same abuse you've already experienced.
Like, he clearly avoids haruko cuz she manipulated him to a degree. Otherwise he wouldn't know everything he knows, or be so scared when haruko tries to do furi kuri woth him again. Then on top of that, he feels jealous that Naoto despite being abused is getting haruko's attention because she's just such an awfully good manipulator.
