The Soprano Saxophone looks like a cross between a clarinet and a trumpet. It's front end and colour looks like a trumpet but the rest of it looks like a clarinet. As for which saxophone I prefer, I prefer the alto saxophone.

A Saxophone is hardly ever considered a Brass instrument, I personally would consider it a woodwind, NEVER a brass, because a brass instrument makes a noise by buzzing your lips together in the mouthpiece to make a sound, and a sax, you pretty much NEED the reed to make a noise..

To mention:
- on the small (high tone) end, there is the sopranino Saxophone missing. It's built mostly straight, just a very few curved sopranino Saxes are existing.
- there are also some straight versions of the alto existing.
- on the big (low) end, some instruments are missing: bass, contrabass and even sub-contrabass Saxophones are actually existing, very impressive instruments!

+myipd touch I recommend the alto because it's smaller and easier to play high notes. I do play both, so I should know. If you do choose to play tenor you may have a harder time because it requires more air, and is bigger, but the choice is still yours. 😃

I play the alto saxophone in marching band. I also play the tenor and alto saxophone in concert band. I tried playing the baritone saxophone in middle school, but it was too heavy for me. I wished I can try the soprano saxophone, but I haven’t gotten my chance yet. I seen a straight soprano saxophone, but I would love to see a curve one.
