- I met up with Shirley from Following the Yellow Brick Road and had a great time touring the grounds of the Alamo and the Riverwalk. The Alamo has a new section that I highly recommend that contains a large collection on loan from Phil Collins.
We also went inside the Menger Hotel, which is where Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders were organized. #alamo #riverwalk

Great channel enjoy!
Howdy friend.
I did know about Phil Collin's involvement with the Alamo and other historical properties.
I have an artist friend who hand made a replica of Jim Bowie 's knifes. It has been displayed in the visitor center for years. Gil Hibben.
Thanks for sharing your personal experiences involving the archaeological finds. Very impressive.
Lots of camel corps information in the Indianola area. Lots of "haunted" places in San Antonio. 12:07
Thanks Dennis. Collins visited the Alamo years ago while on tour and he was hooked. He’s been instrumental with everything Alamo!
Cool about your friend who made a Bowie knife.
Thanks for taking us along! Haven't been there since 1974 when I was in boot camp USAF. Really enjoyed, thanks again!!
Glad you enjoyed it Glen. The area has changed a lot since then.
@@poodleprofessor I bet it has. Would like to get back and check it out again. Take care and will see you on the next one!!
Thank you sooo much Jennifer for taking us along with you.
I've never been there.
Also I never knew that about the camels 🐫
I've seen the sign outside of Quartzsite of course. But didn't know.
Glad you enjoyed it Dianna!
Thank you for taking us along, Jennifer
You are so welcome!
I didn’t know about the oak tree stands, neat!
Really? I think I first saw them at a plant nursery in Floresville.
Thank you. Really enjoyed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed the added history. Thanks once again, prof.
Thank YOU William for watching and commenting.
I also didn’t know about the San Fernando dig!!
I told you about that! My friend was the city archaeologist and called me down there.
What an special treat to have you to treat her for a tour and I learned more about you
Aww, thank you Wayne!
Ya that's on my Texas list. Thanks for showing us this amazing place. And wow! Didn't know you were all into the archeology thing.
It’s the “Professor” part of my channel name 🤓😂
So cool! I have not been to The Alamo since I was a kid in the early ‘70s, & I’m always amazed at how much it has changed every time I see it and the intrusion of buildings around it. It didn’t used to be that way. But, I really enjoyed your video Jennifer! ❤
Thank you Peggy! At least they’re doing away with the icky tourist places that are close by.
Thanks so much for the video- (Mr. Rusty talks about you😊that’s where I heard about you ) we were there a few years ago - I wanted to go visit again as I was there when in basic training year’s ago. Love the River Walk😊
Aww, Rusty is a good guy and I'm glad I've gotten to spend some time with him. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Been a very long time since I was at the Alamo and Riverwalk. San Antonio has a beautiful downtown for sure. It is a very interesting history of the camel experiment. Some of them were at Camp Verde then further West to Ft. Davis. Good job Jennifer!
Thanks Calvin! Yes, the camel experiment was interesting, but definitely not thought through. Poor things.
One thing I didn’t mention in the video the artist told me is that the Alamo commission made him remove the camels because they said it would “confuse the public.”
@poodleprofessor Doesn't surprise me at all. History means nothing to so many people nowadays. What a shame. Take care Jennifer 👍✌️
Great video. They had the camels here at Fort Selden outside of Las Cruces NM
Ah, that doesn't surprise me. I think the camel story is really interesting. Thanks for watching.
Wow! Awesome video Jennifer! Lots of history and things I didn't know like Phil Collins interest in the Alamo! He sang some great great songs! I like "In the air tonight". Great tour! Glad yall had a great time! I gotta make it down there one of these days! Weekdays are probably the best. Take care and have a wonderful day!👍👍
Thanks Jason! Yeah, he's very involved with everything Alamo.
I've been to the Alamo a few times. Always amazing. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! They are really making some nice improvements. Finally!
I had a great time with you! I’m so glad we finally had a chance to meet. Thanks for the tour!
Jennifer have you ever heard about Charles Goodnight and the water pitcher at the Menger? Story is Goodnight and his Missus checked in one afternoon , where she, being tired, went upstairs to their room and he went to the bar. After having his refreshment He proceeded to their room, whereupon Mrs Goodnight said that she had asked for a pitcher of cool water but none was forthcoming and could Charles be a dear and fetch a pitcher of cool water. Being a dutiful husband he retrieved said pitcher, went out on the balcony and threw the pitcher into the middle of the lobby floor, with the shouted admonition that" IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GIVE US ANY DAMNED WATER, WE DON'T NEED THE DAMNED PITCHER! Two pitchers of fresh, cool water were promptly delivered to Mrs. Goodnight.
Ha! That’s funny.
Oh wow you were in my backyard
Where are you?
Jennifer is that you in the picture of the dig?
No, that one’s not me. I can’t find our pictures, but I’m still looking for them. It’s funny that most archaeology pictures look the same and there’s a saying that most of them are pictures of “butts and buckets.” 🤣
