Oddly, last night my daughter was practising in the garden for an outdoor gig this Saturday. She has not gigged in years, but previously just plugged into the venue's PA. This started with the 2 channels one her own Bose PA. Not happy with the guitar sound, we plugged the accoustic guitar into my Boss Katana. It has an accoustic setting, infinite, sound & effect tweaks plus the choice of the 25 or 50 watts. Super solution, very happy, Smack Inn Whitstable here we come.
This is so good. I only started learning how to play the guitar 6 weeks ago & I'm documenting my entire learning journey on here so this was super motivational!
Having a Bass Pre-Amp is such a great idea, definitely going to be an add on my acoustic board. Right next to my Reverb and Delay. As always, love the playing. Thank you, Megan.
I was never into pedals since I mostly play acoustic, but now I bought a NuX Optima Air and a Joyo Atmosphere. I really want to explore these two pedals before I buy any more. I think a lot of people buy lots of stuff they see on UA-cam and never really get to know the full potential of the devices.
I changed my setup by accident.. stuck a cheap soundhole pick up in and played it through my teles pedal board.. t’dah! Now I run two channels, the basic acoustic setup but kick the hole pick up in for intros, choruses etc very subtle mix but it boosts the sound when needed and always have my standard acoustic sound goin on.
Great video! I’ve tried many acoustic preamp pedals over the years (Boss AD2, NuX Optima Air, Zoom A3, LR Baggs Session DI, Fishman AFX Pro EQ Mini, Animals Firewood Acoustic DI, Orange Acoustic Pre TC). I like them all, for certain applications, but the Orange Acoustic Pre TC produces the best sounds I’ve heard. Of course, it’s by far the most expensive unit, and it’s no longer in production. Silver medal goes to the Zoom A3, which has also been discontinued. It is inexpensive and packed with so many features (effects, boost, tuner, mic input, stereo outs, DI out). Bronze goes to the LR Baggs Session DI, which makes all of my guitars sound great through Bose PAs.
@ The Optima Air is unique among the acoustic pedals I’ve used, in that it is an IR profile pedal in addition to being a preamp. I got it thinking I could plug my lower-end guitar into it and make it sound like a higher-end guitar using the IR function. It sounded okay, but I ended up simply getting a higher-end guitar instead. I tried the profile capture function on the pedal as well, and again thought it sounded okay, but I just didn’t really need the IR stuff anymore. The preamp side of the pedal is solid, and the built-in reverb is a nice feature as well. If you want to experiment with the IR stuff, it’s a relatively inexpensive way to do so.
@@DomCAFC I now have a guitar (a Rainsong) that has a built-in preamp (StagePro Anthem system) that sounds great on its own. No IRs or preamp pedals needed. I should probably just sell off my preamp pedals at this point, but I like to keep them around.
There are a multitude of options available right now that are quite effective at achieving a sound I like from my acoustic guitar through the FOH system. You've featured several here. But in my 43 years of experience as a performing musician and sound technician, getting a good acoustic sound to the audience is not the hardest task. By far, the most difficult challenge, typically, is to get the acoustic player enough volume in his or her monitor to facilitate a comfortable, enjoyable playing experience. Sure, IEM's solve that problem. And when playing in a near silent venue where the audience is there to hear you specifically or maybe in a small coffee house, feedback is much easier to eliminate. But it's the bar gigs or gigs where you're providing background music for an event that begin to be challenging for a solo performer who runs his or her sound from stage and uses a monitor wedge. Often, background chatter or noise is quite loud, requiring more volume just to be heard and to hear yourself play. Feedback begins to become a problem. I use a wedge for a multitude of reasons, the main one being that with IEM's, I feel so detached from the audience and my surroundings. So much so that the distraction even affects my balance, my vision, and my ability to focus clearly on the many details of a good solo performance. I would love to learn tips, tricks, and approaches to this challenge that have proven successful for seasoned performers watching this video.
Thnx for nice demo! I’m hearing a rich open tuning and it sounds nice! As a decades long pedal geek, I invested in a premium acoustic preamp/eq/di pedal few years ago. Saw it used by Billy Strings and by Molly Tuttle separately- it is the Grace Designs Alix preamp or the more cost effective Bix pedal. True studio preamp and a level of tone purity not found in BAGGS Venue preamp. A complimentary pedal I also us is Source Audio EQ2, a very powerful, easy to use 10 band eq. It even has advanced features where you can set two different EQ curves and send one to an onstage amp or monitor and another to DI and in to the mixer.
I’m fortunate to have a Kemper. That, together with Bert Meulendijk’s acoustic profile pack, and sometimes a modulated reverb (shimmer, crystal etc.) and my Taylor and Alvarez guitars sound great.
@@titorock21 Only a pleasure. Bert Meulendijk’s acoustic profiles are the best out there, in my opinion. Have a look on his website. Each type of profile is demoed, very accurately.
I exclusively play electric but I do own 3 or 4 acoustic guitars as thats what I learned on so many years ago. Was thinking about trying out acoustic sets and this video gave me a great starting point in terms of amplification. (Was all good, but I'm a start small). Thank you.
This video was very helpful. I gig finger style with a new yorker size guitar and am trying to find a way to get a larger sound. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Probably the most important is to have installed in your Guitar a Multi signal Blend style preamp with Mic + UnderBridge Transducers + Magnetic , probably the most amazing natural sound you can get from blending those 3
Looking to move away from TC Helicon Play Acoustic, the EQ is very limited, but want something that won’t fill up my pedal board and does a similar job.
I'm curious to know if you have tried the Tonewood Amp with your acoustic guitar? I saw a video with Mike Dawes, but curious what your thoughts are. It seems like a pretty impressive gadget.
I agree with using some pedals, BUT from my personal experience , having a good pick up system on the guitar itself can change the amount of pedal that you have to bring with you, just DON'T use only piezo. lr baggs anthem is my favorite and Seymour Duncan mag mic is my sound hole choice. pedals color the sound too much if you need an Acoustic sound you must have at least one mic in the sound hole
Bonjour. J'aimerais avoir votre avis. Je vous remercie par avance. Le bonjour de France.
Im starting to build a pedalboard for my acoustic guitar. I already have an acoustic amp and a compressors and I was going to get a 7 band eq or a preamp pedal. What would you recommend to get first? My amp obviously has a preamp but it has only a bass and treble control. I wanted to get more control with the eq pedal but I dont know if I should get a preamp first
I like the ambient sound of the Strymon Blue Sky but I'm not sure it is useful in most normal gigging situations. I don't think it fits with vocals at all. Just my $0.25.
First thing you should always do with a Taylor is swap out the Expression system. Such a poor system on expensive guitars. I put LR Baggs Anthem SL in mine and its ace. Fishman Presys Blend in my Sigma and a Rare Earth Blend in my Takamine.
My band mate swapped his ES1 out for a Baggs Anthem, I swapped my ES2 out for the K&K Trinity but I have a 2011 Grabd Symphony with an ES1 & I liked it from the jump but as the guitar has opened up I've grown to like it even more. It's weird though cause I hear ES1's that I think sound awful & ES2's that I think sound nice. It's all so situational when you're an acoustic nerd chasing down tone perfection.
Love your playing puts me to shame. Also shame on me for the fist thing I thought when I looked at your channel name PMT-V suddenly saw Drax from gardians saying metaphor lol
A bass pre amp? Would you please upgrade your inexpensive boss acoustic amp to an acoustic array with a minimum of 2000 watts with a subwoofer like the JBL PRX ONE acoustic line array? Seriously. I bring my own sound to the venue, which often exceeds the quality of the venue itself unless it is a stadium.

Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar and Playing. Awesome Tips. Cheers
Using a compressor will help immensely in tightening up and giving a more unified sound

Lots of awesome info. Awesome playing as always Meg🎸🎸🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks Jackie! 😀🤘
The EHX Bass9 pedal was a game changer. I use it to sculpt the bass end of the spectrum. Much better than the octave pedal solution.
What delay setting do you use on your normal rhythm? Maybe just a subtle slapback that sits way under the guitar tone?
I’m fortunate to have a Kemper. That, together with Bert Meulendijk’s acoustic profile pack, and sometimes a modulated reverb (shimmer, crystal etc.) and my Taylor and Alvarez guitars sound great.
Kempers are awesome. That sounds like a fine set up you've got! 😍

I use a behringer peq parra eq racmount and it makes my guitar sound incredible
I use the fender marine layer fir both acoustic and electric guitar. Sounds very natural compared to a boss rv6
Types of guitar pickups? Alternatives?
Great video, thank you!
What tuning were you using on the guitar and what were the open chords you were playing in the intro? Sounded great!

I have a boss gt3 foot pedal cani plug my accustic guitar into it with out blowing it up xx

Could you explane the pedals order with the mxr preamp? I have one, but I don't know the best order with other pedals. Thank you
Very informative video! What are your thoughts on multi-effect acoustic pedals, like the Zoom A1 Four, Boss VE-8 or Boss AD-10?
Love the guitar sound it’s bad ass and I never say that
Is an acoustic preamp pedal the same as an acoustic guitar with a built in eq ?

Bass amps have always sounded better than any acoustic amps I’ve played. Only used them in a band with stage volume otherwise, not necessary
Can you do more acoustic finger style with the amplifier??

Anyone else tried this yet?

Get Silencer Strings and all the rasp you are getting out of your finger movement on the strings will largely disappear.
Its called depth, and interest. Some of us like it....
Buy a booster pedal
Too musc sustain on effecys
😂😂😂😂
