Great video! My daddy is in the group picture of those that started the Creek Archery Club. (11:35) He is in the back row on the right, Ted Wells. Daddy has lots of pictures with himself, Donald and Howard Hill in them. Also some of the hunting trips. Daddy stills has a back quiver and one wooden arrow given to him by Mr. Hill and other memorabilia. Daddy is 83 and tells these stories still to this day and I still love hearing every one of them. He and Donald shot bows and have been friends a long time. I remember being around Donald when I was a lot younger. They were a great era of longbow-men!!
My parents and I were members at the Creek archery club since the very beginning.we had a small club a couple miles down the road and mr. Hill showed up one day I think maybe was 1969 and convinced everybody to move to to Creek archery club. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times
Wow Scott--thank you for making and uploading this. And thanks to your Grandfather for sharing his wonderful stories about Howard Hill. As a fellow Alabamian and longbow archer, I grew up hearing about Howard Hill and reading of his exploits. In later years, I had the great fortune to get personal instruction from both John Schultz and Bob Wesley, both personally instructed by Howard himself. These guys too, were great sources of information and just fun stories about Mr. Hill. Men like your Grandfather are national treasures in my book. Thank you again for sharing.
I saw Howard in 1955 at a special event for our cub scout troop. I've been shooting the bow and arrow ever since and I wrote about it in the Oct/Nov 2014 issue of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. The article's title is "Howard who?".
Enjoyed every minute of that, I started watching it to know more about Howard hill ended the video wanting to know more about Donald Dopp. Well done make a part 2
An outstanding interview with your grandpap. I have been a follower or disciple if you will of the longbow, the Hill style or ASL as it is called now for yrs. I am also a firm believer in how Hill shot the longbow and have tried to follow and learn that technique for as long as I can remember, which frankly is about 40+ yrs now. The best video ever released on the Hill style was done by John Schultz and is called "Hitting'em like Howard Hill". Again just a very well done and wonderful collection of memories in this outstanding video. stay safe

My father, like many people, started archery hunting in the mid 50's because of the Hill films.
