Hello auto academics! I’ve recently been looking into one of these cars almost exactly the same. I’m not sure if you would respond to this comment, but I have been looking at at similar car from an Audi dealer and has 34,000 miles on the odometer. I was wondering how this q7 has held up if the maintenance has been horrible? As well As any other long term thoughts? Thank you so much! Duff Green
Hi, Duff Green. We have now had this Q7 for 4 years and we have been very happy with it. My wife has put a little less than 50k miles in it and it still looks and drives like new. Maintenance is only once per year and while it isn't cheap, it's typical for this class of luxury vehicle. The only issues we've run into are the brakes sometimes squeal, even though there's plenty of life on the pads and rotors and we've had to have the infotainment unit reset due to some glitches. The dealer was able to fix that and the periodic brake squeal is just annoying, not unsafe. Besides that, we love the Q7 and every time I drive it (my wife is in it every day), I can't believe how well it still drives. We have no regrets with this purchase. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics Thank you so much for responding! I think Im going to go with that car, it seems to be in great condition mechanically so it looks to be a good deal! Great video i'm definitely subscribing!
@@AutoAcademics Thanks so much! I got a 2017 with orca black exterior and pistachio beige interior and have loved it for the 5k miles I’ve put on it. It’s been an awesome car and definitely not worth the air suspension upgrade!
Merry Christmas! Do you still owning this car ? I am looking to buy one between 2017-2019 because I am more interested in the 3.0 supercharger engine. How been your experience so far? Any common issues that should I be aware?
We do still own it. I'm does suffer from a well-known oil consumption issue where we have to add a quart every few months. Other than that it's been very reliable and still drives like new. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!!
@@kalbri5443 That's always a good idea for peace of mind when buying a used car. Especially, when it's from a luxury German brand that could have expensive repairs. Fortunately, we have had zero issues with our car, but we also make sure to have all recommended maintenance performed on it, which a previous owner may not have done. I personally just bought a used S5, but didn't get an extended warranty because it still has two years remaining on the new car warranty.
Your wifey has had this for over a year now. How’s it treating you guys? My wifey and I were looking at an Audi Q7 or a Lexus RX350. I love the Audi’s infotainment system over the Lexus but I’m worried about reliability. Also, I’ve read several articles about the Q5 and Q7 starting on fire due to electrical malfunctions.
beri232 Hi, beri323. It's hard to believe, but not only have we had it for over a year, but it's coming up on two! And we've been very happy with it. No complaints or regrets. Frankly, the only thing we'd do different is order it with a tow hitch, which we excluded, and now they want WAY too much as a dealer install. Haven't explored aftermarket options yet, though. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
the one thing i am disappointed by s the entire top of the dash is plastic shared with the VW counter part. even Cadillac and Lexus offer leather on the upper dash (well the Lexus gives about half of the dash in leather)
It's questionable whether or not Cadillac or Lexus (unless you get the $16k Executive-Class Seating Package) have real leather on the upper dash. It's all faux (read: leatherette) and some manufacturers fake it better than others. Chris' CTS even has the fake stitching on the dash to help sell it. It's typically faux because real leather and the sun don't mix well, at all. The Q7 can be ordered with an extended leather package to add a little extra quality (for a lot of extra dough) to what you see and touch, but this particular vehicle doesn't have that option. And that previously mentioned Lexus costs $35k more than this Q7 did. LOL
justin bouche, which Cadillac and Lexus are you referring to? The LS that we were referring to has more than "half leather" and we're curious which of the Caddys you're thinking of. As of right now, we find no information from the brand that says the top of the dash is real leather on any Cadillac, including the Escalade Platinum. And while the XT5 Platinum is just as beautiful, again the dash is arguably not real leather. The seats are semi-aniline, with Opus leather on the console, and there are suede inserts strategically placed, but that's about it. You are correct about the lower ends with leatherette, but you'd be surprised how many "upper ends" have it, too. And again, we're talking the upper dash still, right? If it can be proven, we'll accept our medicine, but we still argue that very few accessible (not counting ultra luxury or exotic) vehicles have real leather on the top of the dash.
Unfortunately, we don't have the Progressiv trim in the U.S., Milk Man, but the Prestige trim of our tester was the top trim level for 2017. Sorry we couldn't help more, but thanks for watching!
This is the best Audi Q7 2017 video I have come across. Love this car & doing some research on it. Almost EXACTLY the car that I want. Ink Blue, Brown interior, (Im getting the black trim though if I get it). Why did you decide not to go with the Luxury Package? I am thinking about getting that with the black seats (since they change the color from brown to orange with the Lux Pack). Would love to hear why your wife chose no lux pack. Thanks so much, awesome video.
Hi, Katie M. Thank you very much for the kind words. We honestly can't remember the details of the Luxury package or even if there was one when we ordered ours early 2016. I know we felt as though the Prestige trim was optioned "well enough" for us and we didn't want to get too crazy with the options. Based upon the 2018 Luxury package, we wouldn't have gotten it since my wife doesn't feel she needs an Alcantara headliner, massage seats, or more (read: nicer) leather for $5,500. LOL That's probably why I love her! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
They should have added the Driver's Assistance Pkg. Reason being when they trade the car in without that package the resale value is lower than one that is equipped and ready for autonmous driving. Just sayin.
Well, technically, the current-gen Q7 is not even close to being ready for autonomous driving. There are quite a few changes that need to be made. Without going too deep into it, there are 5 levels of autonomy for driverless cars, with Level 5 being full autonomy. Tesla is currently Level 2 (Partial Automation), working toward Level 3, to put it in perspective. The current-gen Q7 (with the Driver's Assist Pkg.) only has driver-assist technology (Level 1). The DA package does have one Level 2 feature, "Traffic Jam Assist" included, but that only allows for 15-second intervals of hands-off driving at low speeds. By the time Level 5 autonomy is capable on the Q7, the currently included tech will be well outdated and the vehicle's value will not be worth any possible future upgrades. And as was mentioned in our review, the current tech can be very ambitious. Read: intrusive and annoying. But that last part was Chris' take on it so your mileage will vary. Hopefully this explains things a little better. We appreciate your comments, Terry. Thanks for watching!
I drove between Seattle and Vancouver (Canada) with minimal steering/throttle/braking input the whole way.... So while you can't take your hands of the wheel, it is significantly better than your comment suggests....
It's all just personal preference, Peter Davidson. Many of us here at AutoAcademics enjoy the process of driving a car, and while that doesn't mean we don't think autonomous cars are a good idea that can be beneficial at some point in the future, right now we're fine with controlling a vehicle during these early years without it imposing suggestions about its placement between the lines. Thank you for sharing and for watching, too!
Can someone help me please. So this is my question. I have a trailer and I need to know how to use tow mode on the 2017 Audi Q7. Could someone please help. Thanks
Hi, The Audi Family. Unfortunately, Chris does not have the tow package on his Q7. Hopefully, someone else on here will be able to offer some info that can help you out. Thanks and good luck!
I was cross shopping this and the Volvo XC90. A tough call in the end, but I went with the Volvo. I got a better deal and I prefer a touch screen infotainment system over Audi's complicated dials and buttons. Still, a fine SUV overall.
There is not spare wheel/tire on the U.S. version of the 2017 Audi Q7, Lords Kumanan. It comes with run-flat tires. Yeah, not optimal for reckless driving, but Chris' wife barely lets him drive it, anyway. Thank you for your comment and for watching!
Well, we guess you could say this is one of our few slanted reviews. Chris was using his wife's car so they obviously like it A LOT. Chris does have issue with the auto stop/start feature on the engine, not knowing if it's going to shut off at times such as when they stop to get the mail (some times it does/some times it doesn't), but besides that, they've been very happy with it. Thank you for your comment and for watching!
This gets q dislike just because of some misleading info the biggest of all .. saying its turbo charged when in fact its not!! Its supercharged...that for many car geeks this is a game changer
Yeah, the third row is not made for adults, Vernon Paige Jr., but it is fine for children. If you need more space back there, very few choices are truly accommodating with the exception of a minivan. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Great review. The review was well detailed , it helped me decide on purchasing this vehicle. However, I feel like you're trying to hard, just be yourself. Also, try not to mention the "owners" so much, it creates a disconnect between you and the viewer. Good job and good luck! I'll be in it for the long haul.
We appreciate your comments, LyricalXpressions.Wordpress.com. To help clarify, the reason why Chris mentioned "the owners" so much was exactly for that connection you talk about. As he revealed at the very end, he and his wife are the owners of the Q7. And in regards to him being himself, well, he's been himself for as long as we've known him. Thanks for watching!
I'm sure it's nice, alloneword154. Not denying it. But the standard steel suspension is, as well, and we were more concerned with durability since we plan on keeping it for a while. And 5 years in, so far so good. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Air suspension, no matter what the brand, seems to have reliability issues, and it’s a very expensive repair job. I’m glad to hear the normal suspension is up to the job.
Cops looking for ya...:) What about the rubbery dash board, small cup holder, odd location of the park button, no room on center 2nd row seat, no 3rd row air vent, pricey audi connect, AND issues on engine oil consumption?

the one thing i am disappointed by s the entire top of the dash is plastic shared with the VW counter part. even Cadillac and Lexus offer leather on the upper dash (well the Lexus gives about half of the dash in leather)
LOL
No it is not. It is real and way better than all that Audi plastic - boo. Baying 66K for plastic interior is a rip-off

Nice review. You said 3.0 turbo...I think you meant 3.0 supercharged...or am I missing something?
You're correct, Jorge. Chris's wife has bee giving him a hard time about that ever since. LoL. Thanks for watching!
Yes it says 3.0t but it’s a supercharged engine...
AutoAcademics Ok well thank you anyway
You're welcome!
are you sure this vehicle is turbocharged not supercharged ???
It's supercharged.
That is nice, I love Audi's
Thanks for watching, Christian Norton!
I was cross shopping this and the Volvo XC90. A tough call in the end, but I went with the Volvo. I got a better deal and I prefer a touch screen infotainment system over Audi's complicated dials and buttons. Still, a fine SUV overall.
Congrats on the new ride, J High. While we haven't had the opportunity to test one for review, the XC90 is a nice vehicle. Enjoy!
Terrible choice, Audi bears it in every category while you’re focused on the small price difference
where is the spare wheel?
There is not spare wheel/tire on the U.S. version of the 2017 Audi Q7, Lords Kumanan. It comes with run-flat tires. Yeah, not optimal for reckless driving, but Chris' wife barely lets him drive it, anyway. Thank you for your comment and for watching!
Dang, literally 10 seconds into this video. I got an add
Thanks for watching, BigTymin!
I love Audi's 3.0T but, it isn't turbocharged as you described.
After scrolling down, I see you've already been told this many times, so I apologize if it sounds like I'm beating you up over it.
Ha! Chris deserved it so no worries. Thanks for watching!
Good car!
everything so great about this car, sure car can be great, but then again its review, meaning are there no bad things?
Well, we guess you could say this is one of our few slanted reviews. Chris was using his wife's car so they obviously like it A LOT. Chris does have issue with the auto stop/start feature on the engine, not knowing if it's going to shut off at times such as when they stop to get the mail (some times it does/some times it doesn't), but besides that, they've been very happy with it. Thank you for your comment and for watching!
This gets q dislike just because of some misleading info the biggest of all .. saying its turbo charged when in fact its not!! Its supercharged...that for many car geeks this is a game changer
More Mercedes? More Porsche!! Thanks!!!
I really want one, but that 3rd little ass row is a no go.
Yeah, the third row is not made for adults, Vernon Paige Jr., but it is fine for children. If you need more space back there, very few choices are truly accommodating with the exception of a minivan. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics Thanks. I want to get rid of my Nav, but my growing kids keep telling me no. LOL. They like sitting in the 3rd row for some reason.
@@vernonpaigejr.1517 That makes sense. You have one of the few SUVs with a usable third row.
@@AutoAcademics I still want one though. LOL
It’s supercharged not turbo charged 👍🏽
Yeah, Chris has been apologizing for that for the past 5 years now. 😅 Thanks for watching, MANMADELEGEND33!
Idk man, adaptive air suspension is nice.
Cops looking for ya...:)
What about the rubbery dash board, small cup holder, odd location of the park button, no room on center 2nd row seat, no 3rd row air vent, pricey audi connect, AND issues on engine oil consumption?
Great review #newsubie
Thank you, Shawn Dorsey-Stinson! We appreciate your support. Thanks for watching!
No wife’s car
you try to hard dude. Try less and you will get better results. You don't need to entertaining all the time!
Couldn't understand how does the title relate to the concept of the video.
Buy a ford better
I think people should stop buying VW and Audi become of there diesel engine. They are killing us with there nox emission period.
You lost me at Turbo, thumbs down and turned off. If you can't do the homework no need to watch your channel.
No need to get so angry, j Feussner. Chris' wife already gave him the tongue lashing for misspeaking about that 3 years ago. LOL
@@AutoAcademics Look at your title, it implies people should have the ability to learn from your page. I am certainly not angry just stated the obvious. Imagine if your teacher had no experience or degree in the the subject they taught you? Without actual research or education there is no reason to take the opinion or even some type of implied knowledge.
i am surprised that audi wasnt scared that you would steal it...
Kacicka999
It's his wife's Audi, but thanks for your racist comment any-hoo.
J High yeah wtf mate
lol that was racist af dude lol
