It's pretty advanced by 2005 standards.
An amazing achievement for the BBC Production team.
While I was making a doctor who fan film, I used this exact method myself but just with the cybermen instead, it's very cool to see that they used this for 2005 as well!
That's actually incredible. I never once thought it was an effect
The fact that they only had three Dalek props at the time explains why for every split screen shot, the Daleks always appear in a number of the three times table. Like having 12 or 15 Daleks.
Not relevant, but the shot at 0:54 remains one of my favorites to this day. Way to make the Daleks look wholly alien and menacing.
I think it's because the daleks are quite restrained in the series 1 finale in their movements. They stand still while the human guns do nothing so the humans realize how completely outmatched they are before they die
They used the same technique for the scarecrows in The Family of Blood, and possibly the Ood in The Impossible Planet.
It's something that I've wanted to try and do, I have no idea how so.
Definitely gonna do some tests on it for future animations
Congrats on 1k!!
3 DALEKS?
Brilliant piece of filmmaking right here. Nowadays, I can imagine complete CGI being used which would've been more expensive, taken up more time and wouldn't have looked as convincing.
Well done on your 1K!
BBC: "You would film this scene with only three Daleks?"
Russell T Davis: "We would film this scene with only one Dalek!"
