I remember watching this as a kid & loving it...hank stram was hilarious on the sidelines & it was even more hilarious the way he was clownin' the Vikings..this was GOLD..stram seemed like the kind of coach anybody would wanna play for In the 60's he also scouted black colleges & assembled his team full of talent from those schools
Great coach and even bigger personality....for we at ImaSportsphile consider this video to be a "nugget of gold" in our treasure chest of memories in the 2000 vintage videos we have posted on our webpage...this is great footage.
Kenneth Lucas, thanks for your comment.....cuz that was an absolutely great line that came out of Coach's mouth....it was the high point of the film.....for if you enjoyed this video piece....I am sure I have already posted more vintage NFL treasures that you will enjoy at www.imasportsphile.com
As a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, I couldn't help but relish the delicious irony that the final game played by an AFL team was against the franchise that was initially going to be an part of the AFL. There ya go vikings, a nice solid butt kicking from your "friends" in the AFL who found out on the eve of the first AFL draft ( in Minneapolis) that your word was worthless.
I remember watching a show on HBO back in 2005, maybe it was Bob Costas. Anyway, they were doing the end of year remembrance of sports people who died, and Len Dawson got pretty choked up talking about Hank Stram and how much the players loved playing for him. I always liked Stram's color commentary on the NFL radio broadcasts.
Patches O'Houlihan, thank you so much for your comment.....as it ranks at the top of thousands of comments our 1700 vintage videos have received....for it speaks to the real purpose of our site at www.imasportsphile.com....to pay respect to the awesome entertainers, artists, athletes and sportscasters of the Baby Boomer generation ....while providing a history of their generation as seen through their comedy, music and sports....a history that is already too soon being forgotten....so, we recommend you bookmark our site and do not rely on utube for our content...cuz we use 100 different utube channels under different names as "video weigh stations" for the 2300 hrs. of content we will load over the next 5 - 6 years....as you are sure to miss some "nuggets of gold" from our treasure chest of content if you don’t bookmark our site.
Re the radio broadcasting -- he was phoning it in by early 90s. Radio GMs around the country rose up in rebellion at the horrible boring quality of those broadcasts.
when I think of classic people to put a microphone on I always think of this game an extremely well deserved Victory after the crushing first Super Bowl defeat... Revenge is sweet
Stram and Grant...2 really great pro football coaches....too soon being forgotten....and Coach Stram did America a great deed....if he indeed sink Dean's presidential ambitions....and this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile thinks America came out the better by the sinking.
M Strain, thanks for your comment....for in this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile's opinion....this Chiefs team is an iconic team in NFL history....having one of Bone Daddy's personal all-time favorite players in LB/Center E J Holub.....a true West Texas tornado on the football field....and the clubhouse leader of the Chiefs throughout the career of Coach Stram.....who wasn't Ali with a mic on him.....but you are correct for he wasn't far off....so, if you havent done so....you need to visit my webpage frequently at www.imasportsphile.com ...cuz I have lots of vintage Stram, Ali and NFL videos (1400) already posted.....with so much more to come.
The NFL was supposed to win those final two Super Bowls before the merger, but the Jets and Chiefs had other ideas. Defense won many championship games back in that era.
*thats the difference between you and me mr dunfee. I get the ball over the goal line if the games on the line." August 2018 when i beat him in final stretch & also hit store goal with a very bold sales strategy.
We at ImaSportsphile who were charged with posting the 1800 vintage videos currently seen our our webpage think Jason Alexander was a wuss who couldn't lead anything into battle....much less an NFL team
Ima Sportsphile Well I was talking about the similarities in their stature and mannerisms as well as the fact that Hank Stram wore a toupee! So in a MOVIE I think Jason Alexander would be perfect for the part!
golfguybc, thanks for your comment.....you are absolutely correct.....and what a great coach to mic.....what energy, passion and football genius. I have so much NFL videos posted in my Sports section at www.imasportsphile.com

That NFL Films background music is awesome; just perfect for football clips.
The beginning sounded like the 80's.
Saw the half hour version as a kid and the words "65 toss power trap" have stayed with me my whole life.
3:18 Don't mess with Coach's hair piece!!!
"BY GOD THEY MADE THAT BY AN INCH!" My man, Hank Stram. Awesome.

Hank Stram's influence, showcased here ----- sunk Howard Dean's presidential ambitions several decades later.

I always wondered who DOC was?I knew you could do it doc,E J Holub was screaming on sideline!
I saw this game at the age of 15. I was a Vikings fan. I suffered through this SB thoroughly expecting the Vikings to win.
The NFL was supposed to win those final two Super Bowls before the merger, but the Jets and Chiefs had other ideas. Defense won many championship games back in that era.
chinese fire drill. now thats a phrase you dont hear every day.
old school phrase that the baby boomer generation grew up with....kinda like a bull in a china shop!
Nothing like realizing the underdog is the stronger team and watching it play out.
Not sure the NFL could of picked a better man with the mic?!?!?
*thats the difference between you and me mr dunfee. I get the ball over the goal line if the games on the line." August 2018 when i beat him in final stretch & also hit store goal with a very bold sales strategy.
If there is ever a Hank Stram movie he should be played by Jason Alexander (George Costanza) from Seinfeld!

golfguybc, thanks for your comment.....you are absolutely correct.....and what a great coach to mic.....what energy, passion and football genius. I have so much NFL videos posted in my Sports section at www.imasportsphile.com
Thats not true..nfl films also has miced footage of joe kuharich coach of the eagles on the sidelines back in either 67 or '68
I remember seeing it
Incorrect, a coach in 67 was wired
Hank Stram AT LEAST had energy and enthusiasm. Unlike Bud Grant who had a facial expression like a robot.
